Abstract

Fruit rot is one of the important diseases in cocoa fruit, which is caused by Phytophthora palmivora. Farmers often control these pathogen using chemical pesticides. However, this method has a detrimental impact on the environment and health. More environmentally friendly fruit rot disease control can use biocontrol agency. Bacillus sp. is one of the biocontrol agents that is able to produce antibiotics that can inhibit the growth of pathogens, especially soil-borne pathogens and have the ability to colonize plant roots. The purpose of this study is to determine the potential of Bacillus sp. in inhibiting the growth of the pathogenic fungus Phytophthora palmivora in vitro. This study used two experimental factors, type of isolates Bacillus sp. Ba-6 isolate, Ba-9 isolate, Ba-12 isolate, Ba-15 isolate, and Ba-17 isolate and the concentration of Bacillus sp. (106 cfu/ml and 109 cfu/ml). The parameters observed were the inhibitory power and the mechanism of inhibition of Bacillus sp. against Phytophthora palmivora. The results of the best in vitro inhibition test on Ba12K2 treatment with an inhibition of 61% with an inhibitory mechanism, namely antibiosis, as evidenced by the presence of zones of inhibition and swelling of the hyphae.

Abstract

Forests are one of the natural resources of high value for human benefit, both direct and indirect benefits. The management of forest resources does not date from the legal basis of Article 6 of Law no. 41 of 1999 (regarding Forestry) which states that natural resource management efforts in forest areas are carried out through protection, conservation and production functions by taking into account the continuity of their supply and the surrounding environment. UPN "Veteran" East Java as a State University in East Java proposes the Forest Area program with Special Purposes (KHDTK) as an effort to develop education and research as well as community service. The purpose of this research is to map forest areas based on fertility characteristics and land availability suitable for the development of KHDTK Wonosalam. The results of the research can be seen that 1. the forest area is based on the interrelation of land evaluation parameters on the distribution of forest land, the limiting factor for water availability in land use units 1, 2, and has primary obstacles in the dry season, resulting in drought and inappropriate land use. with its designation on land prone to erosion. Plants that dominate the forest area are annual plant species, including pine, clove and mahogany, while intercropping consists of coffee, banana and corn. Aspects of land fertility holistically have inhibiting factors, namely the low levels of elements C - Organic, available P and K2O. 2. Efforts to conserve land as an option for forest land management before the decline in land quality occurs by making irrigation and drainage channels to avoid water drought, applying organic fertilizers and selecting plants physiologically according to the characteristics of forest land. In addition, it is hoped that there will be an increase in water availability and land productivity by applying the principles of sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

Green betel (Piper bettle L.) is a medical plant that contains essential oil and is widely used as one of the key ingredients of traditional herbal called jamu. One of the particular micronutrients that play an important role in an enzyme activator is Zinc mineral (Zn). This research was aimed to discover the most effective doses of ZnSO4 fertilizer on growth parameters and essential oil production of green betel cultivated on red mediterranean soils in Bangkalan Madura, at ± 5 altitudes. This experiment was arranged as a single factor experiment in a completely randomized design with four replications. There were six levels of treatment namely Z0 (without ZnSO4), Z1(0,2 g/plant), Z2 (0.4 g/plant), Z3 (0.6/plant), Z4 (0.8 g/plant), Z5 (1 g/plant). Data collected from this experiment were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan multiple ranged test (DMRT) ?? 5%. The results showed that the application of ZnSO4 fertilizer significantly affects vine height, number of leaves, number of branches, number of nodes, plant total dry weight, and essential oil content. Doses 0.6 g/plant of ZnSO4 was the best treatment compared to other doses applied in this research which increased the essential production of green betel up to 36.6% (1.405% w/w) compared to the control (without ZnSO4 application).
