Abstract

Background: A car paint shop is one of the works that use paint as the main working material containing benzene. Benzene is a colorless liquid aromatic compound that is carcinogenic to humans. This compound is classified as a group 1 human carcinogen by the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer). Objectives: This study aimed to analyze the correlation between individual characteristics and workplace benzene concentrations with DNA degeneration of workers in an automotive paint shop in Kalijudan, Surabaya. Methods: This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional design and a quantitative approach. Secondary data from the previous study were collected from 20 respondents, all of whom were paint workers in an auto paint shop. The dependent variable in this study is DNA degeneration and the independent variables are age, body mass index (BMI), number of years working, smoking behavior, and benzene concentration. To analyze the correlation of independent and dependent variables, the chi-square test was used. And then the phi test and Cramer's v are used to analyze the strength of the correlation between the two variables. Results: Measurements of benzene concentrations in the workplace showed higher mean concentrations than TLV-TWA. As a result of laboratory tests, 13 out of 20 workers showed DNA degeneration. At the same time, the results showed a moderate correlation between BMI and DNA degeneration, and a very weak correlation between benzene concentration at work, individual characteristics (worker age, years of work, and smoking behavior) and DNA degeneration. Conclusions: This study found no correlation between individual characteristics and workplace benzene concentration with DNA degeneration in Surabaya auto paint shop workers. Keywords: benzene, car painting shop, DNA, individual characteristics

Abstract

Background: School-age children are in the phase of growth and development so that nutrition intake is needed to support the growth and development of children. If there is an imbalance between intake and fulfillment of nutrition, nutritional problems will arise. Objectives: The study aims to analyze the relations between eating behavior and Healthy Eating Index with nutritional status of school-age children at SDI Darush Sholihin, Kabupaten Nganjuk. Methods: This research was an analytic observational with a cross-sectional design. The sample size were 48 students selected using proportional random sampling. The data collected includes weight, height, Food Frequency Questionnaire, and 2x24 hours food recall. The data was analyzed by Spearman correlation test with a significance value of 0.05. Results: Most students were male (54.2%), average energy intake 1126.08±287.99 kcal/day, low levels of intake such as carbohydrates (98%), protein (47.9%), and fat (64.6%), rare eat staple foods (60.4%), often eat plant proteins (43.8%), never eat vegetables (58.3%), fruits (81.2%), and snacks (75%). There was no correlation between eating behavior of staple foods (p=0.101), animal proteins (p=0.212), plant proteins (p=0.829), vegetables (p=0.751) and snacks (p=0.109), and Healthy Eating Index score (p=0.194) with nutritional status. However, fruit eating behavior (p=0.040) was associated with nutritional status. Conclusions: There was no positive correlation between eating behavior of staple foods, animal proteins, plant proteins, vegetables, and snacks, and also HEI score with nutritional status. However, there was a correlation between fruit eating behavior with nutritional status. Children who often eat fruit without paying attention to the sugar content and serving method are at risk of becoming obese. Nutrition education to schools and parents related to healthy eating behavior, especially fruit, is needed to prevent obesity and achieve optimal growth and development.

Abstract

Background: Menarche is the first menstruation experienced by adolescent girls. The age of menarche in Indonesia has decreased from 13 years in 2010 to 12.4 years in 2018. The age of menarche is influenced by internal and external factors, some of the factors are macronutrient intake, physical activity, and nutritional status. The decrease in age at menarche is associated with an increased likelihood of uterine myoma, dysmenorrhea, and breast cancer. Objectives: To analyze the relationship between macronutrient intake, physical activity, nutritional status and age at menarche in adolescents Girl 9-15 years old. Methods: This research used cross sectional design with sample size of 87 adolescent girls who had experienced menstruation and selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected by macronutrient intake used Semi-Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQFFQ), physical activity used Short Form International Physical Activity Questionnaire (SF-IPAQ), anthropometric data to assess nutritional status through measurement of body weight and height and age of menarche used a self-report questionnaire. Data was analyzed by t-test, chi-square and linear regression with 95% confidence level. Result: There was a significant relationship between fat intake (p = 0,049) and nutritional status (β = -0.92, p <0.001) with the age of menarche. The results of the analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between energy intake (p = 0,058), protein intake (p = 0,178), carbohydrate intake (p = 0,099), and physical activity (p = 0,422) with age at menarche. Conclusions: fat intake and nutritional status during adolescence is related to the age of menarche. Prevention for cancer in women should be carried out as early as possible when adolescent girls have not menarche. One of prevention is managing the nutritional status of adolescent girls by paying attention to diet. Abstract

Background : Shrimp is a nutritious source of animal protein and has many benefits for the body. Shrimp production in Indonesia is one of the top 10 shrimp producers in the world, this is in line with the increasing consumption of fish, especially shrimp in Indonesian society. Shrimp that live in fresh water and in sea water always forage at the bottom of the water, namely in sediments, where a lot of solid particles in the form of sand and mud and heavy metals are deposited as a result of the deposition process in the waters, so shrimp is a good indicator of heavy metal pollution. Objectives : The Objectives of this literature review is to describe the condition of heavy metal contamination in shrimp of Indonesia, Hence it is necessary to monitor the concentration of heavy metal contamination in shrimps, so that a warning signals can be given to the society in case the concentration levels cross the threshold limits. Methods : The method used in writing this article is a literatur review, which is a research by conducting a study of several national and international articles. The database used came from ‘Google Scholar' using related keywords and obtained 2160 articles, after screening the topic and inclusion criteria that had been set, 13 articles were obtained which were then carried out by a literature review. Discussion : The tests for a content of heavy metals (Hg, Pb, Cu, Cr, As, Mn, and Zn) of shrimp in several regions in Indonesia using the AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer) test method and the color test (Rapid Test Kits) resulted in several variations, for the shrimp samples tested for heavy metal contamination of Hg, Cu, Mn, and Zn in all samples were safe from contamination, while the shrimp samples tested for Pb, Cd, and Cr content had positive and negative results (1 : 2 ratio). Conclusions : Variations in heavy metal content (Hg, Pb, Cd, Mn, Cu, As, and Zn) in shrimp samples with different locations, there are positive and negative shrimp samples for certain heavy metals, can be influenced by several factors but the public is advised to continue to be careful, that is always process shrimp before consumption properly and correctly.   Keywords : Contamination, Heavy metal, and Shrimp

Abstract

Background: The cases of traffic accidents increases year by year as the increase in the number of motorized vehicles. Rapid technological advances have an impact on the progress of the transportation sector, so that the online-based motorcycle taxi application is created. In 2020, 2 million online drivers registered with a company in the transportation sector. Accidents online motorcycle taxi drivers can be caused by several factors, one of which is length of work and subjective fatigue. Work as an online motorcycle taxi requires workers to work in a hot work environment, this triggers fatigue in workers which leads to accidents. This can be exacerbated by working long hours of more than eight hours a day and not being accompanied by adequate rest Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the strong relationship between water consumption, work Duration and subjective fatigue with the accidents among online motorcycle taxi drivers. The independent variables in this study is work duration and subjective fatigue, while the dependent variable was the incidence of accidents. Method: This study was analytical and observational, with a cross-sectional design. The subject of the study was an online motorcycle taxi driver in the Sidoarjo Regency area with up to 110 respondents. Result: The results of the analysis showed that there was a positive and a weak correlation between working hours (CI=0.209), while there was a fairly strong correlation with a positive direction for subjective fatigue (r=0.326) with the incidence of accidents on online motorcycle taxi drivers. Conclusion: The analysis show that there is a weak relationship between work duration and the incidence of accidents for online motorcycle taxi drivers, while there is a fairly strong relationship between subjective fatigue and accidents. From the results of data analysis, the direction of the relationship between two independent variables is positive, it meaning that the longer work duration will cause an increase in fatigue and the incidence of work accidents.

Abstract

Background: Bilvave is a potential biological food resource from water areas. Bilvave are one of the local food sources that are widely consumed by the community because of their affordable prices and high-quality alternative protein sources. Bilvave can accumulate various particles including heavy metals in water, one of which is lead. The presence of lead in food in high concentrations and in the long term can have an impact on the health of humans who consume it. Objectives: The purpose of this literature review is to describe the heavy metal content of lead in bilvave and the health effects of those who consume them. Methods: The method used in writing this literature review is to review 11 selected journals taken from various sources, namely Google Scholar, Crossref, Elsevier, Springer with open access journal criteria and according to the topic to be discussed. Discussion: The results of a review of several articles show that the lead content in bilvave exceeds the threshold for proper consumption based on the regulations regarding heavy metal contamination in food that have been determined. Conclusions: There are variations in the heavy metal content of lead in several types of shellfish that are often consumed by the public. This is influenced by the water area where the shells are obtained with different levels of water pollution, for that it is important for the public to pay attention to the frequency of consumption and how to process shellfish before consumption.
