Abstract

One of the obstacles in chemistry learning is the large number of complex concepts, especially material that cannot be observed directly by students. Abstract and unobservable chemistry concepts often pose a major challenge in learning, resulting in low student comprehension and difficulty in relating theory to practice. PJBL is a learning model that allows students to gain direct experience with the chemistry concepts they encounter. This systematic literature review aims to synthesize existing research on the effectiveness of the PJBL model in improving the understanding of chemistry concepts. This type of research is a literature study using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method on 10 articles from 2015 to 2024 to evaluate the effectiveness of the Project Based Learning (PJBL) model in improving the understanding of chemistry concepts. Based on several articles, the results show that PJBL consistently produces a significant increase in conceptual understanding, as demonstrated by an increase in student N-gain scores in the moderate to high categories, as well as encouraging learning achievement in repetitive learning. The main contribution of SLR in this study is to provide an integrated and structured summary that can be used as a practical reference for educators in designing contextual and applicable project-based learning models. This study supports the integration of PJBL in learning to strengthen student engagement and deep conceptual understanding

Abstract

This study examines veterinary students’ perceptions and reading comprehension of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) texts in veterinary science. The subjects were 60 undergraduate veterinary students who participated in the study by responding to a 20-item questionnaire that assessed four dimensions: relevance, perceived difficulty, reading strategies, and text format. The students also completed an eight-item reading comprehension test based on authentic veterinary texts. The findings showed that students generally held positive perceptions toward the ESP materials, particularly in terms of text format and support, while still acknowledging linguistic challenges related to vocabulary and sentence structure. The average reading comprehension score was 5.5 out of 8, indicating a moderate level of understanding. Correlation analysis revealed weak but statistically significant positive relationships between perceptions of relevance (r = 0.26, p < .05) and difficulty (r = 0.28, p < .05) with reading comprehension performance. These results highlight that while veterinary students recognize the importance of ESP reading materials, pedagogical interventions are necessary to enhance comprehension outcomes. The study underscores the importance of scaffolding techniques, vocabulary support, and structured pre-reading activities in ESP courses for veterinary students.ed pre-reading activities in ESP courses for veterinary students

Abstract

This study critically examines the role of Islamic education management in reducing the misalignment between graduate competencies and workforce demands in an Islamic vocational context. Conducted at Nahdlatul Ulama 1 Karanggeneng Vocational High School, Indonesia, the research investigates how managerial decisions shape graduate readiness amid the dual mission of character formation and skills preparation. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with six informants (school leaders, teachers, and alumni), participant observation, and analysis of national tracer study data. The findings demonstrate a dualistic pattern: management is highly effective in strengthening students’ spiritual discipline and character through structured religious and organizational programs, yet remains deficient in establishing industry partnerships and embedding digital competencies. This imbalance produces uneven employability outcomes across majors, most notably reflected in the 75.5% absorption rate in Computer Networking compared to substantially lower outcomes in other fields. These disparities indicate a persistent “holistic–utilitarian disconnect” between internal value-based practices and external labor market expectations. The study concludes that a strategic shift is necessary, emphasizing three priorities: professionalizing industry linkages across all majors, systematically integrating digital fluency within the curriculum, and implementing targeted interventions to enhance student confidence and career navigation skills. These actionable recommendations provide a management-oriented framework for Islamic vocational institutions to better harmonize spiritual formation with labor market relevance and strengthen their graduates’ competitiveness in an evolving workforce landscape.
