Abstract

One of the obstacles in chemistry learning is the large number of complex concepts, especially material that cannot be observed directly by students. Abstract and unobservable chemistry concepts often pose a major challenge in learning, resulting in low student comprehension and difficulty in relating theory to practice. PJBL is a learning model that allows students to gain direct experience with the chemistry concepts they encounter. This systematic literature review aims to synthesize existing research on the effectiveness of the PJBL model in improving the understanding of chemistry concepts. This type of research is a literature study using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method on 10 articles from 2015 to 2024 to evaluate the effectiveness of the Project Based Learning (PJBL) model in improving the understanding of chemistry concepts. Based on several articles, the results show that PJBL consistently produces a significant increase in conceptual understanding, as demonstrated by an increase in student N-gain scores in the moderate to high categories, as well as encouraging learning achievement in repetitive learning. The main contribution of SLR in this study is to provide an integrated and structured summary that can be used as a practical reference for educators in designing contextual and applicable project-based learning models. This study supports the integration of PJBL in learning to strengthen student engagement and deep conceptual understanding

Abstract

This study examines veterinary students’ perceptions and reading comprehension of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) texts in veterinary science. The subjects were 60 undergraduate veterinary students who participated in the study by responding to a 20-item questionnaire that assessed four dimensions: relevance, perceived difficulty, reading strategies, and text format. The students also completed an eight-item reading comprehension test based on authentic veterinary texts. The findings showed that students generally held positive perceptions toward the ESP materials, particularly in terms of text format and support, while still acknowledging linguistic challenges related to vocabulary and sentence structure. The average reading comprehension score was 5.5 out of 8, indicating a moderate level of understanding. Correlation analysis revealed weak but statistically significant positive relationships between perceptions of relevance (r = 0.26, p < .05) and difficulty (r = 0.28, p < .05) with reading comprehension performance. These results highlight that while veterinary students recognize the importance of ESP reading materials, pedagogical interventions are necessary to enhance comprehension outcomes. The study underscores the importance of scaffolding techniques, vocabulary support, and structured pre-reading activities in ESP courses for veterinary students.ed pre-reading activities in ESP courses for veterinary students

Abstract

This study critically examines the role of Islamic education management in reducing the misalignment between graduate competencies and workforce demands in an Islamic vocational context. Conducted at Nahdlatul Ulama 1 Karanggeneng Vocational High School, Indonesia, the research investigates how managerial decisions shape graduate readiness amid the dual mission of character formation and skills preparation. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with six informants (school leaders, teachers, and alumni), participant observation, and analysis of national tracer study data. The findings demonstrate a dualistic pattern: management is highly effective in strengthening students’ spiritual discipline and character through structured religious and organizational programs, yet remains deficient in establishing industry partnerships and embedding digital competencies. This imbalance produces uneven employability outcomes across majors, most notably reflected in the 75.5% absorption rate in Computer Networking compared to substantially lower outcomes in other fields. These disparities indicate a persistent “holistic–utilitarian disconnect” between internal value-based practices and external labor market expectations. The study concludes that a strategic shift is necessary, emphasizing three priorities: professionalizing industry linkages across all majors, systematically integrating digital fluency within the curriculum, and implementing targeted interventions to enhance student confidence and career navigation skills. These actionable recommendations provide a management-oriented framework for Islamic vocational institutions to better harmonize spiritual formation with labor market relevance and strengthen their graduates’ competitiveness in an evolving workforce landscape.

Abstract

The curriculum applicability, content quality, language use, and integration with literacy-based learning of Indonesian language textbooks in primary schools were the main topics of this study, which employed library research methodologies. This study is classified as library research because it is grounded in the literature. Research that gathers information from multiple sources is known as library research. Books are only one type of literature that can be studied; other types include newspapers, periodicals, magazines, and documents. Finding different theories, laws, propositions, principles, opinions, ideas, and other sources that can be utilized to examine and resolve the issues under study is the main goal of library research. According to the findings, there are still serious flaws in some textbooks even though they fulfill curriculum requirements. These include a lack of interactive features, a lack of diversity in reading materials, and a poor integration of contextual and cultural factors. Incorporating project-based activities, personal reflection, visual mapping, and multi-genre readings that are relevant to students' life into textbooks is advised in order to promote active and creative learning. More stimulating, conversational, and cognitively developmentally appropriate language should also be employed. It is anticipated that these suggestions will provide authors and book producers with useful direction when they write instructional materials that are both educational and transforming.

Abstract

As a critical competency in second-language acquisition, English speaking proficiency is essential for effective communication. While frequently evaluated through oral presentations, many learners encounter significant obstacles that hinder their performance. Consequently, this study aims to identify the internal and external factors influencing the speaking performance of English Education majors within an Indonesian higher education context. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through questionnaires, classroom observations, and document analysis involving 13 second-semester English Education students at Universitas Islam Lamongan. The findings reveal that students' oral communication is hindered by intertwined internal and external variables. Internal factors comprise psychological barriers predominantly fear of errors, embarrassment, and low self-confidence—alongside linguistic challenges, including native language interference, limited vocabulary, and incorrect pronunciation. External factors encompass unsupportive classroom environments and limited English exposure outside formal settings. Participant feedback indicated that addressing these factors through structured pedagogical interventions, such as Vygotskian scaffolding, supportive classroom environments, and constructive feedback, significantly reduces anxiety and enhances overall speaking proficiency.

Abstract

Career understanding is an individual’s ability to comprehend and process information related to career development. This study aims to investigate the relationship between career understanding and career decision-making among ninth-grade students of Junior High School 7 Samarinda. The research employed a quantitative associative correlational approach. The study population consisted of 270 students, and the sample was determined to be 159 students. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to the participants. The data analysis was conducted using the Spearman rank correlation test with the assistance of SPSS version 25. The results revealed a significance value of 0.000, which is smaller than α = 0.05. This indicates that the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted. The findings demonstrate that there is a statistically significant relationship between career understanding and career decision-making. Therefore, it can be concluded that students’ ability to understand careers plays an important role in shaping their career decisions, highlighting the need for effective career guidance from schools and educators.

Abstract

The integration of generative AI into academic reading contexts presents both a transformative scaffolding opportunity and a pedagogical risk: without deliberate instructional design, students may default to passive, query-and-paste AI use that reinforces surface-level text processing rather than analytical engagement. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) study investigated the effectiveness of AI-assisted digital annotation as a pedagogical intervention for improving undergraduate EFL students’ critical reading of academic texts. Guided by the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral model, the study was implemented across two iterative cycles with a class of 50 undergraduate students enrolled in Bahasa Inggris course at an Indonesian higher education institution. Data were collected through Critical Reading Performance Tests (pre-test and post-test per cycle) and classroom observation, and were analysed using a mixed-method approach integrating paired-samples t-tests with thematic analysis following Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model. Findings demonstrated statistically significant improvements in critical reading performance across both cycles, with a cumulative mean gain of 28.8 points from pre-test (M = 49.8) to the Cycle II post-test (M = 78.6; p < .001, Cohen’s d = 1.59), and 83.3% of students surpassing the predetermined success threshold. Qualitative findings documented a shift from passive paraphrastic annotation to interrogative critical dialogue with both text and AI tool. The study concluded that AI-assisted digital annotation, when embedded within a structured pedagogical framework and accompanied by explicit instruction in critical AI interrogation, constituted an effective and ecologically valid strategy for developing students’ critical reading competencies in EFL higher education contexts.

Abstract

As global ideological polarization intensifies, integrating religious moderation into primary education has emerged as a critical imperative for cultivating harmonious pluralistic societies. While macro-institutional policies on moderate character formation are well-documented, empirical evidence detailing the micro-pedagogical actualization of these values within elementary classrooms remains critically scarce. This study investigates the operationalization of moderation principles through a qualitative case study approach, utilizing Thomas Lickona's tripartite moral framework. Triangulated data were collected from purposeful sampling of educators and grade VI students at an Indonesian madrasah, and subsequently processed through rigorous thematic analysis using NVivo software. The findings demonstrate a highly structured progression from cognitive instruction via historical reasoning, to affective cultivation through emotional validation, and finally behavioral habituation via collaborative peer interactions. However, the efficacy of this pedagogical architecture is occasionally compromised by socio-cognitive dissonance stemming from exclusionary domestic environments and a structural deficit in teachers' Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK). This study provides a replicable, micro-pedagogical blueprint for global character educators, asserting that sustainable moral development requires transitioning from abstract theological indoctrination to the creation of active, democratic classroom ecosystems supported by parental synergy.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technologies has transformed mathematics education by enabling new forms of interaction, communication, and collaboration in learning environments. However, many studies still emphasize instructional strategies without explicitly examining the epistemological process through which mathematical meaning is constructed. This study aims to systematically review on Paul Ernest’s social constructivism with a specific focus on the negotiation of mathematical meaning in digital learning spaces. This study employs a systematic review design following a structured review protocol that includes formulation of research questions, systematic search of relevant literature, selection based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, quality appraisal, and thematic synthesis. A total of 28 peer reviewed studies published between 2019 and 2025 were selected from reputable databases focusing on social constructivism, digital mathematics education, and technology enhanced learning. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns related to epistemological foundations, meaning negotiation processes, digital learning environments, teacher student roles, and implementation challenges. The findings are organized into five key themes: epistemological foundations of social constructivism, negotiation of mathematical meaning in learning processes, digital environments as spaces for meaning construction, transformation of teacher and student roles, and challenges and opportunities in digital constructivist learning. The synthesis shows that mathematical knowledge is consistently conceptualized as socially constructed through interaction, discourse, and collaborative reasoning. The results further indicate that digital environments expand the space for mathematical meaning negotiation by enabling multimodal representations, distributed interaction, and technology mediated communication. Nevertheless, the effectiveness of these environments depends on digital literacy, pedagogical design, and interaction quality. Teachers play a crucial role as facilitators of epistemic environments, while students actively construct and validate mathematical knowledge through collaborative engagement.
