Abstract

Discussions by researchers of the Qur'an recently have reached a formulation regarding the importance of presenting a methodology that is comprehensive and relevant to current developments, so that the Qur'an can be interpreted in a relevant way to answer the problems of the times. Among the methodological problems raised as criticism of existing exegetical methods is the lack of space for contextualizing the interpretation of the Qur'an in discussing current and developing issues. Previous methods of interpreting the Qur'an mostly explained the meaning of language and reproduced discussions that may have been put forward several hundred years earlier. Against this methodological situation, a method of interpreting the Qur'an is proposed which adds to the previous method which touches more on the meaning of language or issues of jurisprudence, creed, etc., with a new method which includes historical analysis, investigation of the universal value of verses, as well as the universal mission of treatises. and Islamic law. The method proposed is hermeneutics. Since its emergence, hermeneutics has become a controversy between pros and cons. What is often discussed is the ideological and methodological face. This paper attempts to describe the material objects in this research descriptively and analytically. By reviewing the literature, this research describes the problems of presenting hermeneutics as a method of interpreting the Qur’an, as well as criticizing it. The results of the study in this manuscript are that there are several methodological and ideological issues as a critical discussion of the implementation of hermeneutics as a method of interpreting the Qur’an. The aim of this research is to criticize hermeneutics as a method of understanding the Qur’an. With this critical effort, it is hoped that the weaknesses and strengths of this method will be discovered. It is hoped that this criticism of hermeneutics can be an objective answer to the controversy over the presentation of hermeneutics as a method of interpreting the Qur’an.

Abstract

Abstract: For the purpose of developing a comprehensive method of interpreting the Qur'an, Al-Qur'an researchers have written research manuscripts containing criticism of exegetical and hermeneutical methods. However, the weakness of this criticism is that it only focuses on the weak points of the two methods. This research explores data regarding criticism of the two methods of interpreting the Qur'an by showing the weaknesses and strengths of both. For the purpose of finding a comprehensive method of interpreting the Qur'an, this paper proposes the possibility of integration between the two methods. The method used in this research is descriptive-analytical within the framework of a literature study. With this method, tafsir and hermeneutical methods are described and analyzed based on literature reviews or literature studies of both. Next, there is a proposed methodological alternatives within the framework of integrating the two methods. The conclusion from this research is that it is very possible to integrate the two methods to obtain a comprehensive interpretation method. Regarding the possibility of integration, this research offers a method of interpreting the Qur'an namely Interpretive Exegetical Methodology.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of Quizizz in enhancing critical reading skills among veterinary students in an ESP (English for Specific Purposes) course. Using a descriptive qualitative research design, the study involved 90 veterinary students from a private university who regularly use Quizizz for reading practice. Data were collected through surveys and semi-structured interviews, focusing on students' experiences, benefits, and challenges. The responses were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key patterns related to learning effectiveness and obstacles. The results indicate that Quizizz enhances engagement, motivation, and reading comprehension by integrating gamified features such as instant feedback, leaderboards, and interactive questions. However, the study also found limitations in fostering deeper critical reading skills, as the platform primarily supports surface-level comprehension rather than higher-order thinking. Challenges such as technical issues, lack of personalized feedback, and stress from competition were also noted. To address these challenges, the study suggests integrating discussion-based activities, incorporating instructor feedback, balancing competition with collaboration, and designing questions that promote analytical thinking. Future research should explore how adaptive learning technologies and AI-driven tutoring can further support critical reading skills in veterinary ESP courses. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Fry readability-based digital storybooks on reading comprehension skills among elementary school students. The method used in this study was an experimental research design with a pretest-posttest control group design to measure students’ reading comprehension skills. The sample of this study was fourth-grade elementary school students. Data were collected through reading comprehension skills test sheets and analyzed using descriptive and statistical analysis to assess the extent to which the variables being studied align with the predetermined benchmarks. The results showed that digital storybooks based on Fry's graph readability are effective in improving the reading comprehension skills of fourth-grade elementary school students as evidenced by the n-gain test results, where the experimental class (medium) had higher scores than the control class (low). Based on the t-test, it has a significant effect with a calculated t-value greater than the table t-value. These findings show that books designed according to the grade level of students have an impact on reading comprehension skills, and the integration of digital technology in book development can attract students' attention to read with full understanding.

Abstract

This article aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the interaction between children and adults when learning a second or foreign language, to offer a more coherent and academic response to the question of whether children outperform adults in second language acquisition. The process of learning a second language can occur naturally, in formal instructional settings, or through social interactions. Several internal factors, such as the role of the first language, student motivation, and attitudes, play a crucial role in determining the proficiency level of second language learners. The findings of this study lend support to the notion that the aging process is correlated with a decline in the ability of pupils to recall language information. However, it is important to emphasize that successful second language acquisition is not solely determined by age, but rather hinges on the individual's intrinsic motivation to engage in meaningful communication and interaction with others through the medium of a second or foreign language.

Abstract

In the global maritime industry, English proficiency is essential for cadets to perform effectively in international settings. However, English for Specific Purposes (ESP) instruction in maritime education often lacks contextual application. This study explores how the integration of Teaching Factory (TEFA) and micro internships influences cadets"™ learning experiences in ESP programs. Drawing on a qualitative case study using narrative inquiry, this research involved 40 cadets from a maritime academy in Surabaya who had completed both micro internship programs. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, and observations over six weeks, and analyzed thematically. Thematic analysis was employed to identify, analyze, and report patterns (themes) within the data. The Findings of this study showed that TEFA and micro internships provided real-world learning environments where cadets could apply ESP in authentic maritime contexts. Most cadets agreed that the ESP content was relevant to their future work and that these practical experiences improved their confidence and language use. TEFA helped cadets understand industrial communication, while micro internships offered direct exposure to professional situations, enhancing their ability to use English for technical and emergency communication. Additionally, cadets appreciated the industry-based guidance provided by ESP instructors. The study concludes that integrating work-based learning models like TEFA and micro internships with ESP instruction enhances cadets' linguisticompetence, motivation, and job readiness. These findings highlight the need for ESP curricula to be closely aligned with industry demands and call for stronger collaboration between educational institutions and maritime industries. This research contributes to the ongoing development of contextualized and applicable ESP programs in maritime education.
