Abstract

A black campaign can be interpreted as a deliberate attempt to undermine an opponent using baseless negative arguments. Traditionally, black campaigns were conducted through whisper campaigns, spreading rumors from person to person. However, these campaigns have become more sophisticated with the use of electronic media. This study employs a qualitative method, conducting interviews and referencing additional journal sources. The research findings indicate that black campaigns are not only manifested in the form of posters or banners, as observed in the village of Srigading, but also frequently occur on social media. Social media exerts a significant impact on society, especially among younger generations who are the primary consumers. The influence of social media as an educational communication medium allows users to express opinions and share information with one another.

Abstract

The crisis in Yemen has transformed into a conflict resulting in numerous casualties, damages, violence, and chaos. According to the Al-Houthi group, this crisis stems from President Ali Abdullah Saleh's corrupt practices, which have inflicted suffering on many citizens. According to a report by the Expert Panel of the World Body, President Ali Abdullah Saleh has been engaged in corruption from 1978 to 2012. Additionally, interventions from the United States have raised suspicions of hidden agendas in this conflict. From a geopolitical standpoint, this conflict holds strategic importance for the interests of the United States, leading to prolonged conflict and hindering the attainment of resolution. This research aims to analyze the conflict and resistance of the Houthi group against the interests of the United States in Yemen using qualitative methods based on secondary data

Abstract

Indonesian elections serve as a fundamental manifestation of democracy and a mechanism through which citizens assert their sovereignty over the state and government. The engagement of novice voters in Sidodadi Ramunia Village during the General Election offers a compelling area of study. New voters often exhibit distinct characteristics compared to older generations, such as being more critical, independent, and dissatisfied with the status quo, with a propensity for change. These traits are conducive to fostering a well-informed electorate, characterized by voters who make rational and considered choices. This study focuses on novice voters in Sidodadi Ramunia Village, who are anticipated to sustain their political engagement. Their continued participation in the democratic process is crucial for advancing Indonesia's democracy. Ideally, these new voters will make informed decisions based on acquired knowledge and ethical considerations, free from any manipulative influences. The research methodology employed is qualitative, involving interviews and literature reviews from various journals. Qualitative methods are valuable for providing a thorough and nuanced examination of phenomena. The research findings are presented descriptively and qualitatively, with data derived from interview transcripts and articulated in narrative form rather than numerical terms. The research findings indicate that government entities, educational institutions, community organizations, and mass media play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive political education to first-time voters. This can be achieved through civic education programs, open forums for discussion, and the dissemination of accurate and readily accessible information.

Abstract

The Simultaneous Regional Elections (Pilkada) in 2024 in Palembang are of significant concern in the context of Indonesian democracy. This study discusses the role of religious leaders (ulama) in the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections and its implications for leadership in Palembang. As a democratic country, general elections serve as a primary indicator in evaluating the democratization process. The role of ulama in local politics is significant, not only as spiritual leaders but also as social and political movers. The interaction between religion and politics poses challenges related to balancing religious values and democratic principles. Nonetheless, elections, including Pilkada, are considered crucial instruments in building democracy, albeit still facing challenges such as money politics and the use of religious identities for political purposes. In this context, increased oversight of unethical political practices, strengthening regulations related to campaign financing, and enhancing public participation in the political process are necessary to ensure a healthy and sustainable democratization process in Indonesia. Therefore, the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections in Palembang represent a crucial moment to strengthen democracy and enhance public participation in the political process, with continuous improvement and enhancement measures needed to maintain the integrity and sustainability of democracy in Indonesia.

Abstract

Football holds significant popularity in Indonesia, particularly in Palembang, where it boasts a considerable fan base. This enthusiasm for football has not escaped the attention of Palembang's political sphere, with figures such as Jialyka Maharani, a member of the DPD RI of South Sumatra, actively engaging in supporting and showing concern for the city's 45 football clubs. This study investigates Jialyka Maharani's political marketing tactics, specifically her backing of football clubs, in preparation for the 2024 elections in Palembang City. The research adopts a theoretical framework rooted in marketing strategy and employs a qualitative research approach. Primary data is gathered through direct interviews. The findings reveal several elements of Maharani's marketing strategy: 1. Segmentation, targeting women and the younger demographic with similar characteristics or needs. 2. Targeting grassroots football clubs, totaling 45 in Palembang. 3. This positioning results in perceived assistance, providing costumes/jerseys and financial support to the involved clubs. 4. Push marketing, which involves direct engagement through attending meetings and club events. 5. Pass marketing, utilizing successful local teams and social media influencers. 6. Pull marketing, focusing on both conventional and social media channels, as well as a branded jersey associated with Jialyka Maharani.

Abstract

The Village Head Election is a contest for power at the village level. During this election process, conflicts can sometimes arise between supporters and the candidates for the village head position. One intriguing case in Indonesia regarding conflicts in village head elections is the 2023 Village Head Election in Kuripan, located in the Kuripan District, East OKU Regency. In this election, the candidate with number one won by a margin of only one vote over the candidate with number two, accompanied by several indications of irregularities in the election process. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques including interviews and documentation. Primary data sources include interviews, while secondary data sources include literature. The findings of this study reveal that the dispute in the Kuripan village head election in the Cempaka District, East OKU Regency, was resolved through a local mechanism resembling a village deliberation, or other similar terms referring to discussions involving all relevant village stakeholders. These include the election committee, village government officials, and village representative bodies. To prevent disputes in future village head elections, it is recommended to clarify and improve the transparency of the election information and process.

Abstract

This research discusses the conflict of Iran and the USA Post Arab Spring in the Middle East. Prior to the Iranian Islamic Revolution in 1979, the relationship between the two countries was amicable but deteriorated afterward. The involvement of the United States and Iran in proxy wars in Syria and Yemen reflects the tension in their relationship. The concept of Proxy War illustrates how conflict actors use third parties as arenas for power competition. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive analytical approach, uncovering relevant data and facts for analysis. The research concludes that the conflict is triggered by the United States' interests in the Middle East disrupted by Iran, leading to conflicts in military doctrine, geographical, socio-political order, and diplomatic fields. The United States adopts an offensive stance, while Iran adopts a defensive one.

Abstract

This article seeks to utilize double track diplomacy to examine Saudi Arabia's foreign policy following the Arab uprisings, with a focus on Saudi dominance in the Middle East. The research aims to illustrate a transition in Saudi Arabia's foreign policy from a strategy of balancing to one of leadership and coalition-building, as framed by the balance of threat theory. The central inquiry is: what effect did the altered security environment of the Middle East post-2011 Arab uprisings have on Saudi foreign policy? Addressing this question, and considering the assertion that the nature of threats in the Middle East has shifted post-uprisings in a way that directly threatens the stability of the Saudi regime, necessitating a different response, our hypothesis posits that Saudi foreign policy moved from traditional balancing (aligning with international powers against threats) to a more independent and self-reliant stance.             However, Saudi Arabia's assertive stance towards Yemen, Bahrain, and Syria in reaction to regional events has led to heightened fear and instability in the region. These actions have the potential to shift the balance of power, posing significant challenges to the legitimacy of these nations within their respective spheres of influence.
