Abstract

Secularism is an ideology that seeks to maintain a clear separation between religion and the state. France is a prominent example of a country adhering to this ideology, reinforced by the laïcité policy, which forms the foundation of French secularism. This article employs a qualitative research method, specifically a literature review of various secondary data sources, to critically examine the role of secularism in France and its contribution to the emergence of Islamophobia in public life. The findings indicate that the implementation of the laïcité policy, particularly as a counter-terrorism measure following the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center (WTC) in the United States, has fostered an excessive concern over Muslims, who are frequently associated with terrorism. Consequently, Islamophobia has manifested in France through various forms of discrimination, physical and verbal violence, and hate speech, all of which pose significant threats to the security of Muslim communities in the country. Therefore, while secularism is intended to guarantee freedom for individuals to practice their religion without state interference, the situation in France reveals that secularism has, in fact, imposed restrictions on the practice of Islam.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the parallels between theocracy and monarchy from a socio-political perspective. Despite their distinct historical origins and sources of legitimacy, both forms of governance exhibit numerous similarities in their structural framework, leadership roles, legitimacy bases, and societal influences. Employing a socio-political approach, this research aims to explore how these systems impact societal dynamics, cultural values, and social structures. Initially, the study delves into the organizational structures of theocratic regimes and monarchies. It highlights the pivotal role of leaders as authoritative figures possessing ultimate executive authority. Examination of the presence of legislative bodies or advisory committees supporting decision-making processes reveals shared structural patterns across these governmental frameworks. Subsequently, the research scrutinizes the similarities in leadership roles and legitimacy sources. In monarchies, leaders often derive legitimacy from their royal lineage, whereas in theocracies, spiritual beliefs and religious credentials are instrumental in legitimizing rulership. Through this analysis, the study probes how both systems cultivate a socially acceptable perception of authority and legitimacy. Furthermore, the socio-political dimension of the research encompasses the impact on economic and social aspects of society. Leaders in theocratic and monarchical regimes significantly influence economic policies, wealth distribution, and social and cultural development. The study investigates how these policy decisions can contribute to economic disparities or shape the social and cultural fabric of society. Additionally, the research underscores the influence of theocratic and royal governments on cultural values and social norms. Leaders in both systems contribute to shaping societal perspectives on art, education, and social conventions. The study examines how leadership policies contribute to the formation of cultural identities and societal norms. Ultimately, this research aims to enhance understanding of the social and political dynamics within the contexts of theocracy and monarchy. By analyzing these similarities through a socio-political lens, the study seeks to elucidate the societal impacts of both governance models and identify potential implications for social and political progress.

Abstract

The background of this research provides an in-depth understanding of the representation of female politicians from Islamic mass-based parties in Palembang, highlighting the ongoing issue of insufficient female representation. Despite the implementation of a 30% quota, women's representation in parliament does not reach this threshold due to various obstacles to political participation. This research specifically examines the representation of female politicians in the PAN and PKS parties in Palembang to understand both the presence of female politicians in the city and the central-level policies supporting women in the region. In Palembang, the PAN party allocates a 38% quota for female politicians, while the PKS party allocates a 30% quota. This study employs descriptive qualitative methods and was conducted in Palembang. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using purposive sampling techniques. Primary data sources include interviews, while secondary data sources include literature reviews. The findings reveal that in the PAN party, women have a 38% quota, supported by an organization called National Mandate Women (PUAN) that handles recruitment. In the PKS party, the women's quota is 30%, with recruitment conducted through various channels, including assessments of cadres' abilities and expertise. The 2019 elections showed a shift, with women becoming more independent in their political decisions, previously influenced by men's political preferences.

Abstract

This study delves into the political maneuvers undertaken by Turkey and the European Union within the Syrian conflict. The initiation of these maneuvers stemmed from the construction of a gas pipeline in Syria. The research aims to examine the implications of these maneuvers on political stability and security in Syria, with a particular focus on understanding the Turkish and European Union perspectives. The study employs two theoretical frameworks, namely national interest theory and geopolitical theory. Qualitative methods were employed, leveraging primary data obtained through interviews with geopolitical expert Mrs. Dina Y Sulaeman, Director of the Indonesia Center for Middle East Studies (ICMES), and Dr. Muhammad Reza Ebrahimi, an observer of Middle Eastern politics at the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization. Additionally, secondary data was gathered from theses, journals, and research websites pertinent to the study. Findings reveal that both Turkey and the European Union pursued political maneuvers in Syria driven by their economic and political interests. These maneuvers included efforts surrounding the construction of a gas pipeline in 2015 and support for opposition groups aiming to overthrow the Bashar Al Assad regime. However, the response from the Syrian government to internal opposition and demonstrations was met with military deployment and suppression, reflecting Al Assad's confidence in his government's ability to withstand challenges from opposition forces.

Most farmers in Sumber Suko Village are small-scale and face economic challenges, hindering their capacity development. Recent harvest failures have exacerbated their plight, but instead of giving up, they persevere. The village government collaborates with farmer groups to address issues like pest infestation, adverse weather conditions, and fertilizer scarcity. This study delves into the dynamics between farmer groups and the village government during crop failures, aiming to grasp agricultural management principles and strategies for sustaining productivity despite setbacks. Employing descriptive qualitative methods such as observation, interviews, and documentation, the research purposefully selects data sources to capture both primary (interviews) and secondary (literature) information.Findings reveal a symbiotic relationship between farmer groups and the local government, bridging communities with governance. Some farmers are not only group members but also village officials, leveraging their roles to educate and empower peers through mentorship, training, and environmental awareness initiatives. These efforts identify hurdles and pave the way for more successful agricultural management in the face of adversity.

Abstract

The aim to be achieved in this research is to explain the portrait of the political dynasty phenomenon in the 2020 regent election in Ogan Ilir. The method used in this research is qualitative with a descriptive method aimed at getting a clear and real picture of the symptoms in the field as a whole, then express descriptively about political dynasties according to Ashabiyah theory. The results of this research show that political insantia in Ogan Ilir occurred because of the connection between previous leadership and current leadership. One of the distinctive characteristics of the election of Panca to replace Mawardi Yahya was that Mawardi Yahya's term of office could not be continued due to limited regulations, making it easier for the Mawardi Yahya family to be elected, where this could create benefits from the formal authority possessed by Mawardi Yahya. Dynasty politics gives rise to negative speculation in the realm of society where dynastic politics provides easy space for elite groups to make their families become leaders from generation to generation and can easily carry out corruption. According to Ashabiyah theory, it is very important for the ruling group to create strong political stability and maintain its power as long as possible. According to him, it is halal to maintain power in various ways with the noble aim of only maintaining political stability.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to understand the political response of millennials to the logo change of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), focusing on a case study involving students from the Islamic Politics Department at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities. The results of this study indicate that the changes made by PKS have impacted millennials, who perceive PKS as fresher, more youthful, and optimistic. With the logo change, PKS has successfully conveyed the party's vision and mission and its efforts to engage more closely with the millennial generation. This is attributed to the party's symbol, including its color, typography, and imagery, which are memorable, unique, and easily understood. The change not only brings a positive image to the party but also increases millennials' interest in getting to know PKS by seeking further information about the party, thereby enhancing their political awareness and understanding of PKS. However, this effect has yet to be proven during the 2024 election contest. It remains to be seen how voters will respond to PKS in the 2024 elections.

Abstract

The aftermath of World War II not only impacted the nations competing for power worldwide, but also had significant consequences for countries that were merely pawns in the war. During World War II, much of Asia and Africa were colonized by European powers. Consequently, these nations experienced significant shifts in politics, economics, and other aspects of life. Due to the exploitation of its natural resources by Europe, Africa was more devastated compared to Asia. Despite both positive and negative consequences of the Second World War, one certainty is that African societies had to laboriously work for an extended period to restore every aspect of their lives to ensure their survival in the future. Following the victory of the African National Party in the 1948 elections, South Africa was declared a white-dominated country. People of other races were denied political rights and full citizenship. The practice of Apartheid sparked protests in South Africa and worldwide. Discrimination in education, social, and cultural spheres resulted from Apartheid policies, which were opposed by the black population. Nelson Mandela was one of the prominent figures who fought against Apartheid in South Africa.
