Abstract

Pastoral assistance and counseling services are provided for those who are in a weak situation and condition, both physically, psychologically, socially and spiritually, as is done for palliative cancer patients. The aim is for cancer palliative patients to be able to face and overcome the pain they are experiencing with inner calm. However, reality shows that patient families also need pastoral care and counseling services, because patient families also experience a weak situation when a member of their family experiences cancer. One of the impacts experienced by the patient's family is that they experience deep sadness. If pastoral care and counseling services are not immediately provided, the patient's family will experience deterioration both psychologically, sociologically and even spiritually. Even though on the one hand, the patient's family is the caregiver for cancer patients, on the other hand, the patient's family also needs support and support from other parties so that the cancer patient and the patient's family together can face this condition. So pastoral care and counseling services are not only an important need for cancer palliative patients but also an important need for the patient's family. This article aims to explain the importance of pastoral care and counseling services for palliative cancer patients and their families. The author will use Jocob Daan Engel's Indonesian theory of mentoring and counseling and Howard Clinebell's theory of pastoral counseling and community counseling. The descriptive qualitative method was used by the author to explain the social psychological conditions of cancer palliative patients and the pastoral care and counseling that is really needed by cancer palliative patients and the patient's families at Church X. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interviews and documentation.

Abstract

The background of this research is the concept of child-friendly service applied by the Lord Jesus in the Gospel of Luke 18:15-17. Until now, there are still many churches that have not implemented the concept of child-friendly ministry as applied by Jesus, which can be seen from the placement of children's ministry as a secondary (second) ministry. This form of service is clearly not a child-friendly service. Especially if it is noticed that children's service facilities are often not the same as service facilities for adults, the preparation of children's services is not well prepared so that Sunday school teacher servants only teach to meet the Sunday schedule. This is disproportionate to service to more well-prepared adults. By using a qualitative method, especially through a textual exegesis approach, this article will examine Luke 18:15-17 in order to examine the text more deeply. The results of the exegesis show what Luke means about the concept of child-friendly ministry, which is to bring children to Jesus so that they can receive touch (blessings and prayers) from Jesus and receive children with sincere love. This is the main task of the church in developing child-friendly services

Abstract

This research aims to explore the role of the church in environmental conservation and identify pastoral strategies that can be implemented to enhance the awareness and participation of congregants in ecological responsibility. Through a case study at GMIM Syalom Tuminting Church, this study reveals the importance of developing church programs focused on environmental preservation and the necessity of involving all congregants in supporting and executing these programs. Active participation of congregants in environmental stewardship, both through church programs and personal initiatives, is identified as a key element in caring for creation as part of spiritual responsibility. The research also underscores the importance of ongoing research and educational activities to increase the understanding and awareness of congregants about the significance of environmental responsibility. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a reference for other churches in developing effective pastoral strategies for environmental conservation and inspiring congregants to engage in sustainable ecological efforts.

Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the human immune system and weakens the body's ability to fight any disease that arises. Common symptoms include persistent fever, cough and diarrhoea. This collection of disease symptoms due to the weakening of the immune system is called AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). The HIV virus is present in body fluids, especially blood, semen, vaginal fluids, and breast milk. The virus damages the human immune system, causing a decrease or loss of immunity, making the body more susceptible to HIV/AIDS infection. This can lead to a variety of problems, including physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual problems. Pastoral care is the realisation and representation of the universal human family caring nature. Pastoral care is a service of help and healing from the church, both individually and in groups so that they can grow in the process of living in society. It can be said that pastoral care is done intentionally for those who are experiencing problems or struggles in life. Pastoral care is an answer to everyone's need for warmth, care, support, and shepherding and accompaniment

Abstract

Religious moderation is one of the priority programs of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia. This discourse was developed and socialized in such a way as to address various cases of intolerance that lead to crimes in the name of religion. Within the scope of Christianity, religious moderation which contains the values of openness and acceptance is found in one of the ancient traditions of Christianity, namely hospitality. In this article, the author will examine the concept of hospitality according to Christine Pohl's writings and its implications in the discourse on Religious Moderation, especially in North Sulawesi. The research method used is a qualitative method based on literature study.

Abstract

Every individual has a different way of thinking. This way of thinking covers all life that is influenced by the environment, one of which is culture. In carrying out counseling assistance, it is necessary for counselors or companions to do cross-cultural work to understand different ways of thinking for STT Ekumene Jakarta students, especially those who live in the Girls Dormitory. Because without understanding the way of thinking of each individual will trigger a conflict in the continuity of counseling assistance. This research was conducted to find out how big the role of cross-culturalism is in the success of counseling assistance at the STT Ekumene Girls Dormitory and what counseling techniques are used in cases like this.

Abstract

This article explores the role of pastoral counseling in supporting the candle-lighting tradition at accident sites in Manado. With the rising traffic accident rates in North Sulawesi, the tradition of lighting candles at accident locations has become an important means for the community to express grief, respect, and solidarity with the victims and their families. Through a qualitative approach, this study employs a case study design to understand the meaning and processes behind the candle-lighting tradition and how pastoral counseling can assist individuals and communities in the grieving process. The research findings indicate that the candle-lighting tradition in Manado not only serves as a tribute to the deceased but also strengthens community bonds and raises awareness about traffic safety. Pastoral counseling plays a crucial role by offering holistic support, both emotional and spiritual, helping families find meaning in their loss and gain strength through faith. Through case studies and individual narratives, this article demonstrates the effectiveness of pastoral counseling in supporting the grieving process. The main challenge lies in understanding and respecting cultural values and local traditions, requiring pastoral counselors to be sensitive to local cultural practices. This research contributes to the literature by filling the gap regarding the integration of local traditions with pastoral counseling practices. The findings emphasize the importance of education and training for pastoral counselors to understand cultural values and local traditions to provide more effective support. Thus, this article offers new insights into how pastoral counseling can be effectively applied to support the grieving process within the context of local traditions.

Abstract

The family is an institution that cannot be separated from problems. The problems faced by the family can lead the family to an emotional divorce. This emotional divorce is a much more severe condition than a physical or legal divorce. This condition is even more severe if it occurs in a family of God’s servants, because they bear a double burden related to their status. For this reason, it is necessary to think about pastoral counselling for family who experience emotional divorce. This research was conducted using a qualitative method through a case study approach. It is hoped that the findings in this study can provide an understanding of family pastoral counselling for those who experience emotional divorce so that the impact of emotional divorce on family members can be minimized.
