Abstract

Farmers distribute curcuma through several marketing agencies to the sringanis plantation processing industry. It impacts farmers' income, so the research aims to determine the pattern of Curcuma marketing channels as a raw material for the medicinal plant processing industry, the value of efficiency indicators, and the level of efficiency of each marketing channel—methods of data collection using purposive sampling and snowball sampling. Respondents are farmers, middlemen, and managers of the sringanis plantation processing industry. The analytical approach uses quantitative analysis, namely analysis of marketing channels, marketing margins, farmer share, and marketing efficiency. The results showed that there were two patterns of Curcuma marketing channels, namely marketing Channel I, which included farmers and the sringanis plantation processing industry, and marketing Channel II which had farmers, intermediaries, wholesalers, and the sringanis processing industry. The marketing functions performed by all marketing agencies are exchange functions, physical functions, and facility functions. Farmer share obtained by marketing Channel I is more significant than Channel II, so marketing Channel I is more efficient than Channel II. The implication that farmers and the sringanis garden industry can apply is to enter into a cooperation contract where every profit and risk obtained has been adjusted by mutual agreement. Distance constraints for farmers who use marketing Channel II can be overcome by selling a portion of Curcuma produce to intermediaries with a proportion of 60%, and the remaining 30% is sold directly to the sringanis plantation processing industry.

Abstract

No one would have thought that the military clashes between Cameroon and Nigeria over the Bakassi Peninsula would one day end. For close to 50 years, Cameroon and Nigeria had been fighting over the resource-rich area of Bakassi to take control of it. The mechanisms that resolved these military upheavals were the World Court's Judgment (WCJ) of 2006 and the Green Tree Agreement (GTA) of 2006. The end of the five-year special regime program, as stipulated by the GTA, finally laid to rest the Bakassi conflict. Hitherto, following the end of hostilities between the Cameroonian and Nigerian military in the Bakassi Peninsula, the region was/is being marred by militant activities. The main thrust of this paper is to examine the role played by the Cameroonian and Nigerian military in maintaining peace in the Bakassi peninsula even after the conflict has been resolved. This research used the qualitative method with content and thematic analysis on some military activities in the Bakassi peninsula. Data was collected from secondary sources and observations from two field undertakings in Bamusso, Isangele, and Idabato subdivisions in the Bakassi region. After resolving the conflict, this paper cautions that Cameroonians and the Nigerian military have not only been engaged in security activities but have taken up new humanitarian and developmental activities. This research recommends for Cameroon and Nigerian governments divert heavy projects from the military to civilians, deploying more civilian personnel in the medical, judicial, and administrative fields in the Bakassi Peninsula. They should only limit the use of their military personnel in fighting piracy and militancy in the area. If such policies are implemented, both countries will be assured peace and tranquillity in the Bakassi Peninsula.

Morality is not only about good and bad but how it affects the order of life in social life, even though it is represented in an unlimited imagination.Fantasy literature has grown, diversified, and become famous in recent decades. Abstract

The growing need to decolonize higher education has put pressure on geography educators to reform curricula and pedagogy. This literature review examines the history, rationale and pathways of curriculum decolonization with an emphasis on: 1) the history of calls to decolonize geography courses 2) arguments for why reform is needed and 3) examples of reforms in different contexts. A postcolonial framework clarifies why traditional curricula perpetuate marginalization and why transforming geographic education is crucial. It also highlights how teacher development focused on decolonization, local pedagogy and knowledge can facilitate reform. Overall, transforming geographic education to recognize excluded perspectives, knowledge and injustice is imperative but progress depends on empowering educators to envision and implement transformative reforms.

Abstract

This study examines Aníkúlápó, a Yoruba historical movie, to elucidate cultural perspectives on retributive justice. The study is grounded in the Yoruba worldview, which frames retribution as essential for restoring cosmic and social equilibrium when moral norms are violated. The data analysis used textual analysis of Aníkúlápó’s narrative depictions of crime and punishment as insights into traditional Yoruba principles of retributive justice. The findings reveal that the movie accurately portrays customary public punishment processes in precolonial Yoruba society aimed at communal justice and harmony. Beliefs in supernatural forces dispensing divine retribution are also authentically represented. While punishments seek to deter crime and rehabilitate offenders, scholarly critiques note occasional unfairness and excess. Overall, the analysis of the movie illuminates the pivotal role of retribution in Yoruba's cultural identity and moral philosophy. The key themes in the study relate to retribution's links to cosmic balance, supernatural dimensions, and functions as deterrence and rehabilitation. By situating the analysis of Aníkúlápó within scholarship on African jurisprudence, the study elucidates Yoruba perspectives on fate, choice, proportionality, and pragmatism when responding to moral complexities and wrongdoing. This study contributes original humanistic insight into indigenous African philosophies of social harmony beyond punitive justice. This study recommends comparing diverse narratives and contemporary attitudes to enrich the understanding retribution's nuanced cultural significance.

Abstract

Even though the practice of female genital mutilation is not meant to hurt women, it nonetheless endangers their health. This necessitates research into the amount of understanding and cultural complications that prevent its eradication in Africa and Nigeria, particularly in rural communities where the practice is very prevalent. This study, therefore, examined cultural factors that promote the continued practice of female genital mutilation in the Attah community, Imo State. Social convention theory was used as the study's theoretical framework. The survey research method was adopted for this study. Using the multi-stage sampling method, 674 copies of the questionnaire were distributed to the study respondents for the quantitative data. However, only 539 copies of the questionnaire were retrieved. This represents the sample size of this study. For the qualitative data in the study, twelve (12) in-depth interviews were conducted among village and religious leaders. Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) was used to process this study's quantitative data, while descriptive and inferential statistics were analyzed. For the study's qualitative data, analysis was done using the content analysis method based on the study objectives. It was found that males are more likely to make decisions that influence the continued practice of Female Genital Mutilation in the Attah community than females. The study also found that cultural expectations for womanhood rite of passage, marriage prospects, and the belief that women with FGM are more likely to be less promiscuous are major factors that influence the continued practice of FGM in the Attah community. Consequently, to end female genital mutilation in the Attah community, there is a need to address those religious and cultural beliefs that negatively affect the control of the practice.
