Abstract

Almost all calamities make a footmark on the financial sector, and COVID-19 is no different. On this ground, stock market investors' attitudes, thinking, and everything receives severe attention as investors' psychology is a common determinant of the trading activity and investment decisions which ultimately drive the market. Investors in developing countries like Bangladesh need a more rigorous analysis of their behavior as they are now more concerned and worried about their investments than before. They must be more vigilant in terms of preparation to eliminate the impacts of COVID-19. This paper aims at focusing on understanding how the spread of the pandemic is reshaping the psychological aspect of investors with a focus on four selected factors, risk perception, market psychology, media effect, and loss aversion. Three hundred eighty-five responses were collected through a questionnaire during the COVID-19 pandemic, where data was tested using Smart PLS 3.0 in conjunction with IBM SPSS 25. With the help of the measurement model and structural model of partial least square, the suggested framework in this paper has been studied to identify some aspects of investors' psychology that could potentially have insights and information on how countries should place themselves to respond to future epidemics. The effect size and individual t-test of the factors explain the affected state of thinking of retail investors, where loss aversion and risk perception affect investors the most. In contrast, media effects have a moderate influence, and market psychology has the least. The findings are expected to help investors and policymakers understand the behavior of the market and prepare accordingly for challenging the upcoming economic crisis in the corona war.

Abstract

Tamilnadu, one of the states in India is performing better in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by implementing various schemes and programmes. One such scheme “Free bus travel for women in public transportation”, was launched in June 2021 in an effort to reduce the cost of travel and enhance women’s work participation rates. Women's mobility is essential for increased labour force participation, higher wages and salaries. The aim of this scheme is to help women, especially those who earn a living on a daily basis, become economically independent and free from poverty. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyse the impact of the scheme with the various relevant SDGs. It is a descriptive paper that highlights the policy’s various benefits on women, whether it contributes to the achievement of various sustainable development goals such as Goal 1.4 (access to basic services), Goal 4.3 (Equal access to tertiary education), Goal 5.2 (elimination of violence against women in public and private sphere), Goal 8.5 (decent work) & Goal 11.2 (safe public transportation) using both quantitative survey and qualitative interviews which was carried out among 150 women commuters in Sivagangai District. The scheme was shown to have a good effect on women by assisting them in meeting their practical needs, such as gaining access to markets and schools, and by assisting them in strategically empowering themselves by providing access to social and economic possibilities.

Abstract

Due to its relevance to businesses, employee engagement has been the subject of extensive study, and many scholars have linked it to burnout as its antipode. The work environment and team and co-worker interactions promote engagement and reduce burnout if well-managed. This study investigates the function of engagement as a mediator between the indirect effects of work environment, team, and co-worker relationships on employee burnout. Respondents are sourced from a public firm employee (Tbk). Using SEM-PLS, three hundred thirty-one obtained data are processed. The results indicate that burnout is negatively related to the work environment and team and co-worker relationships and that employee engagement somewhat mediates these relationships. To mitigate burnout, an additional study can investigate employee satisfaction and performance.

Abstract

Premarital and extramarital relationships among the slum dwellers in Dhaka city have become a matter growing concern. However, it has not been yet spotlighted in empirical research. As such, the main purpose of the study was to identify the causes and consequences of premarital and extramarital relationships. The study was a qualitative study where multiple case-study design was employed. Primary data were collected via in-depth interviews from ten participants by using snowball sampling. Moreover, three key informants were interviewed for further supportive information. The study shows that poor social environment and living conditions, learning unethical sexual practice from close friends, falsehood promise for marriage, and uncontrolled sexual desire are the major causes of premarital and extramarital relationship among the slum dwellers. The study also reveals that unsafe and unprotected sexual intercourse, unintended pregnancies and induced abortions, domestic violence and divorce, and the risk of spreading STDs and STIs are major potential consequences of premarital and extramarital relationships among the slum dwellers and thus the issues are a great threat to social and environmental well-being. The study suggests that both government and non-government organizations should undertake proper policy measures and programs such as propagation of health awareness programs, especially on HIV/AIDS and STDS, provision of civic amenities, enforcement of laws, and development of moral values to minimize premarital and extramarital relationships among slum dwellers

Abstract

Micro Small Enterprises (MSEs) have an essential role in increasing the capacity of the national economy, contributing to employment, and increasing people's income. However, MSEs need help with significant problems, namely access to finance and capital, technology in the production process, human resource capacity, and marketing. This study aims to explore empirically related to the impact of the flow of Special Allocation Funds (SAF) on the development of micro and small enterprises in Indonesia. The research objectives covered 32 provinces. The data used secondary data collected from 3 (three) sources, consisting of the data on the value of SAF obtained from The Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, the data on the number MSEs received from the Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises of the Republic of Indonesia, and the data of GRDP, number of population obtained of Central Bureau of Statistics. This research is a quantitative approach. The Method of analysis used the econometric model, namely the panel regression model, which is a regression that combines time series data (t = 7) and cross-section (i = 32) of the Specification model using the Chow and Hausman test. Based on the fixed effect model (FEM) showed that SAF from the central government to regional governments can significantly develop MSEs in Indonesia. Implies that the programs/activities proposed by the Local Government with SAF funding significantly increase MSEs. Therefore monitoring and evaluation of programs that use SAF funding to improve MSEs must be carried out so that the role of MSEs is getting higher in national/regional development.

Abstract

The research was motivated by the declining condition of tourism in Indonesia due to Covid-19, but it has the potential to develop further. Therefore, this study aims to describe the prospect and strategies for developing tourism during COVID-19. This research used a qualitative approach with descriptive methods by taking the case of tourism in Sukabumi Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected by observation and in-depth interviews by taking government and community leaders as key informants. Furthermore, informants who understand tourism development were selected through purposive and snowballing sampling techniques: related government (n=7) and the community (n=20). Data was also collected in focus group discussions to identify problems through swot analysis and formulate tourism development strategies. The study results show data that during the Covid-19 pandemic, tourism potential has increased in variety and innovation due to encouragement from the government and community efforts to independently develop their area as a tourist attraction when tourist visits are closed. The recommendation of this research is to make a grand design strategy for tourism development, developing and strengthening tourism institutions at the government and community levels, infrastructure development, and sustainable collaborative management.

Abstract

The Indonesian government's policy to encourage the involvement of private companies to contribute to renewable energy (RE) projects affects the lives of the local community in the surrounding areas. However, the local community's role in the RE project implementation must be clarified. The study identifies a possible role for the local community to participate in the RE project. It examines the barriers to its participation under the lens of public-private-people partnership. The study was conducted in a mini hydro power plant project in Indonesia. Eight representatives from the village government, community members, and company management were interviewed. The data were analyzed and presented in a descriptive-qualitative manner. The study found that local community participation is needed to manage water as a natural resource for mini hydro power plants. Still, the need for explicit agreement on responsibility and benefit-sharing between the local community, village government, and private companies becomes the barrier to community participation. The findings emphasize the need for formal partnership to specify how local government, private businesses, and communities supposedly develop renewable energy as the basis to involve stakeholders at the local level.

Abstract

Globalization has led to a capital transformation that alters culture, values, and human attitudes, making people more individualistic. Social capital acts as a social glue by fostering trust, social norms, cooperation, and a sense of community. This paper will discuss how social capital can be a driving factor for the survival of communal cattle. We conducted this research in Kulwaru Village, Special Region of Yogyakarta. This study used a qualitative approach with data collection through observation, Focus Group Discussion (FGD), in-depth interviews with key informants, and study of program-related documents. The data obtained were then analyzed using an interactive model. The results of the study show that the existence of social capital in the communal cattle in Kulwaru Village has a vital role in shaping social values in society, such as trust, norms, social relations, and cooperation which provides strong bonds in communities both in bonding, bridging, and linking. This factor has made the communal cattle survive for the last twelve years. The findings of this research will contribute to understanding and harnessing the social capital of rural communities; it is possible to support the continuation of this traditional practice and contribute to the economic and cultural well-being of the communities involved.
