Abstract

The issue raised in this study is the improvement of students' ability to write poetry. This study was conducted with the aim of identifying and describing the level of ability and weaknesses in writing poetry using appropriate word choice, rhymes, figures of speech/imagery, and imagery. The data in this study is useful as information for teachers, especially Indonesian language teachers. In an effort to improve the results of poetry writing learning and to achieve the objectives of the research conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Kotabumi Lampung Utara, a quantitative descriptive method was used. The population in this study consisted of 151 students in class VIII B, comprising 68 male students and 64 female students spread across four classes, namely VIII A, VIII B, VIII C, and VIII D. A sample of 30 students was taken from the population of 151 students, selected randomly using the stratified proportional random sampling technique. The technique used for data collection was a performance test, in which students were assigned to write their own poems based on events they had experienced, taking into account the requirements for writing poetry. Based on the results of the data analysis, it was concluded that the poetry writing skills of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Kotabumi Lampung Utara were categorized as “fair.”

Abstract

The Grebeg Suran Sedekah Laut tradition, as a form of cultural expression of coastal communities, can serve as a collective medium for preserving local identity and strengthening social solidarity. This study aims to analyze the Grebeg Suran Sedekah Laut tradition through a social dramaturgy approach to reveal the dynamics of social roles, impression management, and social structures reflected in cultural practices. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The theoretical framework used in this study is Goffman's social dramaturgy theory. The participants in this study include community leaders who serve as key informants, fishermen, and the general public in Mirit Sub-district, Kebumen Regency. Data collection techniques include interviews and observations at Wuni Melodi Miritpetikusan Beach, Laguna Lembupurwo Beach, and the Rowo Village river. Research data is analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, & Saldana model, starting from data reduction, analysis, verification, and conclusions. The results of the study indicate that in this tradition, the community acts as social actors who play roles on the cultural stage through ritual processes such as offering ceremonies and communal prayers. There is a division of roles between traditional leaders, fishermen, and the community within a structure that reflects social norms and collective values. Elements such as front stage, back stage, setting, and impression management are clearly present in this tradition, demonstrating that the practice of tradition is not only a spiritual ritual but also a form of social performance that reinforces the values of mutual cooperation, religiosity, and cultural identity of the community. This research enriches the interdisciplinary perspective on oral traditions and underscores the importance of cultural preservation based on local wisdom.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the meanings of icons, indices, and symbols in the “tawar” healing mantras of the Dayak Limbai community in Melawi Regency, West Kalimantan. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method with Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic approach. The data consist of ten healing mantras obtained through interviews and audio-recording techniques. The findings reveal 16 icons, 18 indices, and 18 symbols. Icons represent resemblance, indices indicate causal relationships, and symbols reflect cultural conventions and spiritual beliefs. These results indicate that the “tawar” mantra functions as traditional medicine as well as a form of local wisdom that can be integrated into Indonesian language learning.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the cultural forms and educational values within the Berontang custom practiced by the community of Semadin Village, Nanga Pinoh District, Melawi Regency. Berontang is a traditional communal dining ceremony rooted in the Dayak Kebahant culture, rich in cultural significance and educational values. The study employs a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques include interviews, direct observation, and documentation. Data were analyzed using an interactive analysis model and validated through source and theoretical triangulation. The findings reveal that cultural forms in the Berontang tradition are reflected in communal work activities and the artifacts used in the ceremony. The educational values found include social values such as mutual cooperation and solidarity. This research not only documents a fading local tradition but also highlights the embedded educational values, making it a useful reference for learning, particularly for the hikayat text in senior high school curricula. These findings are expected to contribute to the preservation of local culture and strengthen community identity and character through culture-based education.

Abstract

This study investigates the sociolinguistic role of the Jakarta dialect, especially features like lo and gue, within Indonesian online gaming communities. Although Indonesia is linguistically diverse, preliminary findings from related research such as the study on language and identity in online gamer communities. Meanwhile, recent work on digital dialect and regional variation shows hybrid phrases combining English and local idioms are used, but when speaking in voice chats or informal conversation, Jakarta dialect often dominates. Drawing on Fishman’s domain theory, Labov’s prestige framework, and Holmes’s identity solidarity construct, this paper explores how language choice in gaming enables gamers from different regions to assert group identity and create solidarity. Data will be collected via chat-log screenshots, Discord interactions, and interviews with participants across multiple regional backgrounds. The study aims to elucidate how and why the Jakarta dialect becomes a lingua franca in these communities, and what this means for local dialect maintenance.

Abstract

  Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine how to use Microsoft Teams to improve scientific writing skills.  Preliminary results showed that the expected goals had not been achieved because there were still several problems with scientific writing skills. This study used an action research method and involved 30 students. The results showed that learning activity and scientific writing learning outcomes had increased. There was an increase in the percentage of student activity scores during the learning process. The “very active” and ‘active’ scores increased by 30%, while the “less active” and “very less active” scores decreased by 23.33%. In addition, scientific writing results also improved. This can be seen from the increase in the percentage of scores in Cycle 1 by 63.33% and a significant increase in Cycle 2 by 73.33%. Thus, the application of Microsoft Teams based on technological advances has a positive impact on the progress of the learning process.

Abstract

This study is a descriptive psychological analysis based on Goleman's theory of emotional intelligence of the character Totto Chan in the novel Madogiwa no Totto Chan by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. The purpose of this study is to determine the level of emotional intelligence of Totto Chan in the novel Madogiwa no Totto Chan by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. The results of the analysis in this study show that the character of Totto Chan has seven elements of emotional intelligence. This is demonstrated by her high confidence in success, her constant desire to learn and try new things, her ability to plan well and not give up on her goals, her self-control in adjusting her desires to the demands of her environment, her excellent relationships with others, and her ability to understand their situations and conditions. the main character communicates well, and the main character can work well with others. Therefore, Totto Chan's emotional intelligence is very high.

Abstract

Critical reading skills are very important for learning Indonesian because they help students understand, evaluate, and reflect on texts comprehensively. The purpose of this study was to determine how critical reading skills and learning achievement are related to each other. This study was conducted quantitatively using a correlational approach. A critical reading test was used as the research tool. The results of the Pearson Product Moment correlation test were used to analyze the data. The results showed a significant relationship between critical reading skills and learning achievement, with a correlation value of r = 0.68 and a significance level of α = 0.05. This indicates that the relationship between the two is strong and positive, so that students' learning achievement is positively correlated with their critical reading skills.
