Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the correlation between dietary energy density, nutritional status and short term memory of elementary students. Design of this study was a cross sectional with purposive sampling 111 elementary school students in Bogor. Children’s allowance, parent’s education and income, nutritional knowledge, food consumption, physical activity, and short term memory were analyzed by chi square and logistic regression. The method used to measure the short term memory was a serial recall with the word list tool. Measurement of short term memory was two times (09.00 pm and 11.00 pm). The results showed that most of student consumed high energy density food with average density was 2.13 kcal/g for girls and 1.98 kcal/g for boys. Children’s allowance and mother’s education were significantly correlated with dietary energy density. Most of them had normal nutritional status but 27% of them were overweight and obese. Nutritional knowledge and breakfast habit were significantly correlated with nutritional status. Only nutritional knowledge and nutritional status has significantly influence the short term memory.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop a jelly drink product based on hantap leaves extract (Sterculia oblongata R. Brown) as an alternative of functional food. Completed randomize nested design with two factor (The type and level of concentration of the gelling agent) was applied in this study and resulted in nine formulas. The selected jelly drink formula was determined by preference test using semitrained panelists. Jelly drink with the addition of a gelling agent carrageenan with a concentration level of 0.20% and melon flavor was preferred by 86% panelist. This formula contained 87.37% water, 0.18% ash, 0.10% protein, 0.04% fat, 12.3% carbohidrate, 2.08% fiber, 10.6 mg/100g total phenols, 0.68 mg/100g vitamin C and antioxidant activity 20.92 % with IC50 values is 464.02μL. With its bioactive component and fiber content, this product may be classified as functional food which may help improving consumer health.

Abstract

This study was aimed to analyze the effect of green grass jelly drink (Premna oblongifolia Merr.) on reducing blood pressure among adult women suffered from mild and moderate hypertension in Central Bogor Region. There were two intervention formulas, namely Formula A consisted of green grass jelly and brown sugar, and Formula B consisted of green grass jelly and non calori brown sugar. Subjects were consisted of 25 adult women aged over 45 years old and divided into 5 groups, namely one control and four experimental groups. Formula A was given to 2 groups; P1, which received intervention everyday, and P2 which received intervention every two days. Formula B had the same pattern with the Formula A (P3 and P4). The result shows that the systolic blood pressure of P1 decreased significantly (p<0.05) by 20-25 mmHg. In addition, the diastolic blood pressure on groups of P1 and P3 decreased significantly by 14-15 mmHg after the two weeks intervention (p<0.05).

Abstract

The study aimed to determine perception of healthy food, motives of food choices and healthy eating in undergraduate students. The design of this study was a cross sectional study with the total subjects were 120 freshman undergraduate students in nutrition sciences batch 2013/2014 in Bogor Agricultural University, consisted of 103 females and 17 males. The motives food choice was assessed by Food Choice Questionnaire (FCQ) and the healthy eating was assessed by Adolescent Food Habits Checklist (AFHC). The results showed that nutritional status of subjects was categorized as normal (81.7%), overweight (13.3%) and underweight (5.0%). The most category in the food perception of healthy food was neutral (77.5%), and this perception was at the level doubt to agree on criteria for healthy food. The main reasons of the subjects in choosing foods were on the aspects of natural content, health and price. Most of subjects were categorized in a good healthy eating (54.2%), they concerned about consumption of fruits and vegetables, as`well as intake of fat and sugar. The perception about healthy food was correlated with the reason in choosing foods (health, mood, natural content, price, familiarity, and ethics concern) (p<0.05). There was a correlation between the reason in choosing foods (health, mood, natural content, weight control, ethics concern) with the score of healthy eating (p<0.05). The overweight and obese adolescent has a healthier perception of food and eating compared than the normal subjects.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to determine the cow’s milk powder to increased serum levels of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) of white male rat model with diabetes mellitus type 2. The design of this study was a post-test control group study conducted in 30 male rats which randomly divided into five groups. Negative control group was the group of rats which fed normally, the positive control group was induced by streptozotocin (STZ) without given cow’s milk, group P1, P2, P3 were given a normal diet and cow’s milk 0.9; 1.8, and 2.7 g orally every day. The results of this study were the levels of HDL in K(-)=44.22 mg/dl, K(+)=47.45 mg/dl, P1=56.56 mg/dl, P2=51.82 mg/dl, and P3=59.45 mg/dl. The conclusion was the milk powder was not significantly increase levels of HDL (p>0.05). More longer intervention was suggested for further research to get more significant of HDL level on type 2 diabetes mellitus.Keywords: HDL serum level, high fat diet, milk powder, streptozotocinABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis pengaruh pemberian susu sapi bubuk terhadap peningkatan kadar serum High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) berjenis kelamin jantan model diabetes melitus (DM) tipe 2. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian post test control group dengan 30 ekor tikus dibagi secara acak menjadi lima kelompok. Kelompok K(-) adalah tikus yang diberi pakan normal, kelompok K(+) diinduksi dengan streptozotocin (STZ) tanpa diberi susu, kelompok P1 sampai P3 diberi diet normal dan susu 0,9; 1,8, dan 2,7 g secara oral setiap hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kadar HDL pada K(-)=44,22 mg/dl, K(+)=47,45 mg/dl, P1=56,56 mg/dl, P2=51,82 mg/dl, dan P3=59,45 mg/dl. Susu sapi bubuk mampu meningkatkan kadar HDL tikus model DM tipe 2 akan tetapi tidak signifikan (p>0,05). Perlu dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut dengan waktu lama penelitian yang berbeda sehingga bisa berdampak yang lebih signifikan untuk kadar HDL pada DM tipe 2.Kata kunci: diet tinggi lemak, kadar HDL serum, streptozotocin, susu sapi bubuk

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was aimed to analyze the effects of chitosan intake on body weight and plasma triglyceride level in Sprague-dawley rats fed by trans fatty acid. This study was an experimental on animal using factorial randomized with post-test only control group design. The samples were 28 male Sprague-dawley rats aged two months old. The samples were divided into one control (K) and three treatment groups which received chitosan as much as 0.035 g (P1), 0.045 g (P2), and 0.055 g (P3). The feed was high-fat diet, namely added by melted margarine as a source of trans fatty acid, as much as 1.7 g per day. Intervention was done for 14 and 28 days. Measurement of body weight was done every three days, whereas measurement of triglyceride level was done after 14 and 28 days intervention. The study revealed that feeding of melted margarine in a dose of 1.7 g per day increased body weight of control group as much as 54% after 28 day intervention. The increase was higher than P1, P2, and P3 groups which were elevated by 48.7%, 27.8%, and 38.9% respectively. In addition, after 14 day intervention, the plasma triglyceride levels of control and P1 groups were categorized as hypertriglyceridemia, namely 254.3±49.0 mg/dL and 241.7±58.5 mg/dL respectively. In the meanwhile, the plasma triglyceride levels of P2 (128.3±14.3 mg/dL) and P3 (141.3 ± 25.3) were significantly lower than the control and P1 groups. After 28 day intervention, there is no significant difference on plasma triglyceride level among groups (p>0.05), but the triglyceride level of each group was significantly lower than the levels after 14 day intervention (p<0.05).Keywords: body weight, chitosan, trans fatty acids, triglycerideABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh pemberian kitosan terhadap berat badan dan kadar trigliserida plasma tikus Sprague-dawley yang diberi pakan asam lemak trans. Penelitian ini merupakan experimental study pada hewan percobaan, menggunakan rancangan kelompok faktorial dengan post test only control group. Sampel penelitian adalah 28 ekor tikus Sprague-dawley jantan berusia dua bulan, dikelompokkan menjadi satu kelompok kontrol (K) dan tiga kelompok perlakuan (P) dengan penambahan kitosan 0,035 g (P1), 0,045 g (P2), dan 0,055 g (P3) dalam diet yang diberikan. Pakan merupakan diet tinggi asam lemak trans, yaitu dengan penambahan margarin yang dipanaskan sebanyak 1,7 g per hari. Intervensi dilakukan selama 14 dan 28 hari. Berat badan ditimbang setiap tiga hari sementara pengukuran kadar trigliserida dilakukan setelah 14 dan 28 hari perlakuan. Penambahan margarin 1,7 g per hari menjadikan berat badan tikus kelompok kontrol (tanpa kitosan) meningkat 54% setelah 28 hari intervensi, lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelompok P1, P2, dan P3 yang masing-masing mengalami kenaikan berat badan 48,7%, 27,8%, dan 38,9%. Setelah 14 hari intervensi, kadar trigliserida plasma tikus kelompok kontrol dan P1 mengalami hipertrigliseridemia, yaitu masing-masing 254,3±49,0 mg/dL dan 241,7±58,5 mg/dL. Sementara itu, kadar trigliserida plasma tikus kelompok P2 (128,3±14,3 mg/dL) dan P3 (141,3 ± 25,3) lebih rendah dan berbeda signifikan dibandingkan kelompok kontrol dan P1. Setelah 28 hari intervensi, kadar trigliserida plasma tikus tidak menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan antar kelompok (p>0,05), tetapi menunjukkan hasil yang lebih rendah dan berbeda signifikan dibandingkan kadar trigliserida setelah 14 hari (p<0,05).Kata kunci: asam lemak trans, berat badan, kitosan, trigliserida

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe general objective of this study was to analyse nutritional adequacy, physical activity, and cardiorespiratory fitness among Indocement’s workers at Bogor. The cross-sectional study was applied with purposive sampling, involving 32 office workers and 32 plant workers. Most of subjects (59.4% and 78.2%) had a normal Body Mass Index (BMI). The mean VO2 max of plant workers (24.4±7.6 mL/kg/mnt) was higher than office workers (22.9±7.5 mL/kg/mnt). There were no differences of macrocutrients adequacy (energy, protein, fat, and carbohydrate) between two workers (p>0.05). Physical activity level of plant workers was higher than the office workers, and it was categorized as moderately active (59.4%), whereas the office workers categorized as sedentary (75.0%). The office workers had better exercise (160.3±118.0 minutes) than the plant workers (89.1±167.6 minutes). Moreover, there were differences on physical activity and habitual exercise between the two groups (p<0.05). The significant correlations between age, physical activity, and habitual exercise with VO2 max were found on plant workers (p<0.05), but not on office workers (p>0.05).Keywords: cardiorespiratory fitness, nutritional adequacy, physical activityABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis tingkat kecukupan gizi, aktivitas fisik, dan tingkat kebugaran kardiorespiratori pegawai PT. Indocement di Bogor. Desain penelitian adalah cross-sectional dengan purposive sampling, melibatkan 32 pegawai kantor dan 32 pegawai lapang PT. Indocement. Sebanyak 59,4% pegawai kantor dan 78,2% pegawai lapang memiliki IMT yang normal. Rata-rata VO2 max kelompok lapang (24,4±7,6 mL/kg/menit) lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelompok kantor (22,9±7,5 mL/kg/menit). Tingkat kecukupan zat gizi kedua kelompok tidak berbeda (p>0,05). Sebagian besar (59,4%) pegawai kelompok lapang mempunyai kategori aktivitas sedang dan sebanyak 75,0% kelompok kantor mempunyai kategori aktivitas fisik ringan. Kebiasaan olahraga kelompok kantor lebih baik (160,3±118,0 menit) dibandingkan kelompok lapang (89,1±167,6 menit). Terdapat perbedaan aktivitas fisik dan kebiasaan olahraga antara kelompok kantor dan lapang (p<0,05). Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara usia, kebiasaan olahraga, dan aktivitas fisik dengan VO2 max pada kelompok lapang (p<0,05), dan tidak terdapat hubungan pada kelompok kantor (p>0,05).Kata kunci: aktivitas fisik, kebugaran kardiorespiratori, tingkat kecukupan zat gizi

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this study was to investigate consumption of supplement among Ragunan High School Jakarta athletes. The cross sectional study was done with total subjects were 79 students of Ragunan high school who were willing to join the study and they were at school when the study was conducted. There was 92.4% athletes consumed supplement in last one year. All athletes from light and heavy sport category were found consumed supplement. The most popular supplement were vitamin, mineral, and phytonutrition in tablet form. There was 89.0% athletes consumed supplement everyday. Moreover, the main reason for supplementation was to meet a nutrition requirement. The source of information about food supplement was mostly from coach advisor. More than half of athletes got supplement for free from any sources. There was a significant correlation between category of sport and number of supplement used (p<0.05).Keywords: adolescent, athlete, high school, supplementABSTRAKTujuan penelitian adalah menggambarkan konsumsi suplemen pada atlet remaja di SMA Ragunan Jakarta. Desain penelitian ini menggunakan cross sectional dengan total subjek sebanyak 79 siswa SMA Ragunan yang bersedia mengikuti penelitian dan berada di sekolah saat penelitian dilakukan. Sebanyak 92,4% atlet mengaku mengonsumsi suplemen dalam satu tahun terakhir. Atlet dari kategori olahraga ringan dan berat sekali semuanya mengonsumsi suplemen. Suplemen vitamin, mineral, dan fitonutrisi dalam bentuk tablet merupakan jenis dan bentuk suplemen yang paling banyak dikonsumsi. Sebanyak 89,0% dari atlet mengonsumsi suplemen setiap hari. Alasan utama atlet mengonsumsi suplemen adalah untuk memenuhi kebutuhan gizi. Pelatih merupakan sumber infomasi tentang suplemen yang paling banyak dipilih oleh atlet. Lebih dari 50,0% atlet mendapatkan suplemen dengan cara diberi. Kategori olahraga dan jumlah suplemen yang dikonsumsi menunjukkan hubungan positif signifikan (p<0,05).Kata kunci: atlet, remaja, sekolah, suplemen

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe study was aimed to analyze correlation of maternal vitamin A sufficiency, exclusive breastfeeding practices and basic immunization with infant morbidity. The cross sectional study was conducted in four village at Gurah Subdistrict, Kediri District and 31 subjects were included. The data of maternal’s food consumption, exclusive breastfeeding practices, basic immunization and infant morbidity were collected by interview and the infant nutritional status was collected by measuring body weight and length. Maternal vitamin A sufficiency were 58% sufficient and 42% insufficient. There was 68% of infants suffered of diseases, i.e. respiratory disease, fever, diarrhea. Higher maternal vitamin A sufficiency corellated with shorter period of infant’s illnesses. Meanwhile, exclusive breastfeeding practices associated with period and lower frequency of illnesses.Keywords: infant, infectious disease, lactating woman, morbidity, vitamin AABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keterkaitan kecukupan vitamin A ibu, praktek pemberian air susu ibu (ASI) eksklusif dan kelengkapan imunisasi dengan kejadian penyakit infeksi pada bayi usia 5-6 bulan. Penelitian cross sectional ini dilakukan di empat desa di Kecamatan Gurah, Kabupaten Kediri dengan jumlah subjek 31 orang. Data diambil dengan pengukuran dan wawancara secara langsung. Data yang digunakan meliputi konsumsi pangan ibu, praktek pemberian ASI eksklusif, kelengkapan imunisasi dan morbiditas bayi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kecukupan vitamin A ibu termasuk dalam kategori cukup (58%) dan kurang (42%). Sebanyak 68% bayi pernah mengalami sakit selama satu bulan terakhir. Jenis penyakit yang diderita oleh bayi selama sebulan terakhir adalah infeksi saluran pernapasan atas (ISPA), demam, dan diare. Semakin baik kecukupan vitamin A ibu, maka periode lama sakit bayi cenderung semakin singkat. Sementara itu, praktek pemberian ASI eksklusif pada bayi cenderung menurunkan frekuensi sakit dan mempersingkat periode lama sakit bayi.Kata kunci: bayi, ibu menyusui, morbiditas, penyakit infeksi, vitamin A

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objectives of this study were to analyze life style and incidence of metabolic syndrome among obese male employees in PT. Indocement Citeureup. The cross sectional design was applied with purposive sampling by involving 59 obese male employees met the inclusion criteria. There was 49.2% subject has metabolic syndrome whereas the highest prevalence was central obesity (96.6%), followed by hipertriglyceridemia (82.8%), low level of High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) (72.4%), fasting blood glucose (62.1%), and hypertension (55.2%). There was no significant difference prevalence of metabolic syndrome by age, history of obesity, smoking habits, excercise habits, physical activity, and eating behavior (p>0.05). High cigarettes smoking significantly correlated with lower diastole and greater abdominal circumference (p<0.05). Unhealthy eating behavior was significantly correlated with HDL cholesterol, while snacking behavior was correlated with fasting blood glucose (p<0.05).Keywords: life style, metabolic syndrome, obesityABSTRAKTujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis gaya hidup dan kejadian sindrom metabolik pada karyawan laki-laki berstatus gizi obes di PT. Indocement Citeureup. Desain penelitian adalah cross sectional dengan purposive sampling dan melibatkan 59 karyawan laki-laki obes yang dipilih berdasarkan kriteria inklusi. Sebanyak 49,15% subjek mengalami sindrom metabolik dengan prevalensi penanda sindrom metabolik tertinggi adalah obesitas sentral (96,55%), diikuti oleh hipertrigliseridemia (82,76%), kadar kolesterol High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) rendah (72,41%), kadar glukosa darah puasa tinggi (62,07%) dan hipertensi (55,17%). Tidak terdapat perbedaan proporsi kejadian sindrom metabolik menurut umur, riwayat kegemukan, kebiasaan merokok, kebiasaan olahraga, tingkat aktivitas fisik maupun perilaku makan (p>0,05). Semakin banyak jumlah rokok yang dikonsumsi berkorelasi signifikan dengan tekanan darah diastol yang rendah dan ukuran lingkar perut yang besar (p<0,05). Perilaku makan yang tidak sehat berkorelasi signifikan dengan rendahnya kadar kolesterol HDL, sedangkan perilaku konsumsi cemilan berkorelasi dengan tingginya kadar glukosa darah puasa (p<0,05).Kata kunci: gaya hidup, obesitas, sindrom metabolik
