Abstract

The general objective of this research was to analyze the correlation between nutritional status, food consumption, and first menstruation age (menarche) of female Elementary School children. The research was conducted using cross sectional study design from May to June 2007 in 14 Elementary Schools in Bogor. Sample criteria was: 5 grade student consist of pre menarche and post menarche students. A total of 120 students was chosen by purposive sampling. Spearman Correlation Test shows that there was no correlation between menarche age of mother and menarche age of the sample. Post menarche sample had sufficient energy intake but low iron intake. About 86.7% post menarche sample and 68.3% pre menarche sample had normal nutritional status. Spearman Correlation Test shows that nutritional status (BMI/Age) has negative significant correlation to menarche age (r=-0.062; P<0.05). It means that better nutritional status implied in earlier menarche age.

Abstract

Breastfeeding, nutrition consumption, and completeness of healthy card (KMS) are very crucial to support infant development. The objective of this research was to analyze the effect of breastfeeding, nutrition consumption, and completeness of healthy card to the nutritional status.  Sample of babies who breastfed and having KMS were taken from 50 babies aged around 4-12 months using a simple random sampling method. Pearson corelation, Spearman corelation, and backward linear regression were used to analyze data. Linear regression analysis between the length of breastfeeding (p<0.01) and sufficiency of protein level (p<0.01) showed impact significantly to the infant nutritional status. The level energy sufficiency did not affect (p>0.05)  the infant  nutritional status. The analysis also showed effect of weighing, immunization, and giving vitamin A to infant nutritional status.

Abstract

The major purpose of this research was to analyze sanitation and hygiene at TPB - IPB Dormitory’s Canteens. Microbiological analysis (sanitation analysis) was done on chef’s hands and some utensils (eating plate, serving plate, and chopping board). There were a lot of Staphylococcusfound in food handler’s hands (19-57 CFU). This research showed that there was no tendency which was the worst canteen from the three canteens at boy’s dormitory or girl’s dormitory. The statistical analysis showed that the location of the canteen and kind of utensils influenced the total Enterobacter. The chef’s hands of C1 and A3 canteens contained E. coli bacteria, but the other chef’s hands, did not. Eating plate, serving plate, and chopping board from Canteens A3 and C1 were not safe due to the number of microbes they had (1.08x102-3.6x102 CFU/cm2). All utensils at canteen A1 were safe. C2’s and C3’s chopping boards were not safe, but their eating plate and serving plate were safe.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to understand the knowledge, attitude, and practice of nutrition and nutrient adequacy level (energy, protein, vitamin A, and Iron) of pregnant women. This research useda cross sectional study design. Research location implemented sprinkle programme. The sample was taken purposively with criteria not the first pregnancy, the age of pregnancy is between 8-28 weeks, and they are willing to be interviewed. The number of samples that were chosen are 100 pregnant women. Data that were collected were analyzed descriptively and statistically. In general, part (26%) of pregnant women had low nutrition knowledge. More than a half (71%) of pregnant women had moderate nutrition attitude. A half (50%) of pregnant women had good nutrition practice. Based on Spearman analysis, there were significant correlation between education level and nutrition knowledge (r=0.35, p<0.05), between nutrition knowledge and nutrition attitude (r=0.34, p<0.05), between nutrition knowledge and nutrition practice (r=0.266, p<0.05). This research showed adequacy level of protein and iron were inadequate. Adequacy level of energy, protein, vitamin A, and iron pregnant women in Kramat Jati was lower than Ragunan. Based on Spearman analysis there was no correlation between nutrition knowledge and consumption rate of energy, protein, and iron. While there is significant correlation between nutrition knowledge of pregnant women and consumption rate of vitamin A. Adequacy level of energy was affected by nutrition practice. Pregnant women with good nutrition practice had 16.7 times higher adequacy level of energy. Adequacy level of protein was affected by family size and nutrition practice. Income, family size, and nutrition practice didn’t affect the adequacy level of iron pregnant women. Adequacy level of vitamin A was affected by nutrition practice.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between milk and calcium intake with body height and bone density of adolescent. The study applied a cross sectional design to 246 senior high school students in Bogor. The subject aged 16-17 years old were selected purposively. Milk and calsium intake was derived from the food intake data collected by applying a semi-FFQ method for a week. Bone density (stiffness index) was measured by densitometer of achilles insight. The results of the study showed that the mean intake of milk was 170.7±136.3 ml/day with average frequency 6 times/week, and mean intake of calcium was 250.0±212.6 mg/day with contribution of milk was 44.0%. The mean stiffness index of subjects was 97.5±18.3; and the mean stiffness index of boys (104.4±18.9) was significantly higher than girls (92.9±16.3). The calcium intake of milk and calcium intake of calsium-rich foods of non milk was not correlated with the bone density and body height; but milk intake,  frequency and  length of milk intake were correlated with body height and bone density. This implies the important of milk intake in bone density and  linear growth of adolescent.
