Abstract

Background: Stunting is a condition in which a toddler has a body length or height that is lacking or not appropriate when compared to age. Data on stunting cases at the Oekabiti Health Center from year to year in succession from 2020 and 2021 are 24.8% and 20.5%. Although the incidence of stunting has decreased, it is still a health problem that must be addressed. Objectives: This study aims to determine the factors associated with the incidence of stunting in the working area of the Oekabiti Health Center, Kupang Regency in 2022. Methods: This type of research is an analytical survey, with a case-control design. The sample consisted of 142 toddlers consisting of 71 case samples and 71 control samples. Case and control samples were taken using simple random sampling techniques. Data collection was carried out by interviews, observations, filling out questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analysis. Results: The results of the multivariate analysis showed a relationship between the history of exclusive breastfeeding (p-value = 0.005), history of LBW (p-value = 0.000) and maternal knowledge (p-value = 0.001). Conclusions: The history of LBW is the most related variable and has the greatest risk of stunting. It is hoped that the community, especially women of childbearing age (WUS), will know and prepare nutrition before planning a pregnancy and be more active in going to the integrated health post to get information about nutrition and also to monitor the nutritional status of toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia faces the threat of malnutrition with the prevalence of malnutrition, undernutrition, stunting, wasting, and overweight still high, especially in East Nusa Tenggara Province as the area with the highest cases. In Manggarai Regency, the number of cases of malnutrition in toddlers continues to increase from year to year, reaching 320 cases or 1.3% in 2022. Objectives: The aim is to analyze the factors related to the nutritional status of toddlers in the Bea Mese Health Center Working Area, Cibal District, Manggarai Regency. Methods: This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample was 87 mothers who had toddlers with the sampling method used being simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using the chi square test. Results: The results of the study showed that the level of energy adequacy (p=0.013), protein (p=0.000), parenting patterns of providing food in the amount of food (p=0.001), frequency of eating (p=0.001), type of food (p=0.001), parenting patterns of health maintenance (p=0.004), parenting patterns of personal and environmental hygiene (p=0.014) had a significant relationship with malnutrition status, while knowledge (p=0.363) did not have a significant relationship with malnutrition status. Conclusions: There is a relationship between the level of energy adequacy, the level of protein adequacy and maternal parenting patterns with the incidence of malnutrition in toddlers. Meanwhile, maternal nutritional knowledge is not related to the incidence of malnutrition in toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a condition in a person who has a length or height that is lacking. The main factors that cause stunting are family knowledge of nutrition, sanitation and family support. Objectives: This study aims to determine the Relationship between Income, Exclusive Breastfeeding History and Nutritional Intake with Stunting Incidents in the Alak Health Center Work Area. Methods: The type of research used is an analytical survey with a cross-sectional study approach. The number of samples in this study were toddlers aged 1-3 years who were taken using a simple random sampling technique. Sampling used a lottery technique. Each variable studied was tested using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between the variables of Income, Exclusive Breastfeeding History in Nutritional Intake. To test the significance, the researcher used a p-value with a significance level of 5% and a confidence level of 95%. Results: Monthly food (pVal : 0.005) and non-food expenditure (pVal : 0.003), history of exclusive breastfeeding (pVal : 0.004) and nutritional intake (pVal : 0.003 – 0.005) are related to the incidence of stunting, while monthly income is not related to the incidence of stunting in the Alak Health Center work area. Conclusions: The amount spent on food and non-food needs per month along with factors of exclusive breastfeeding history and nutritional intake are related to the incidence of stunting. Other factors such as the amount of income per month are not related to the incidence of stunting in the Alak Health Center work area.

Abstract

Background: Stunting prevention can be accomplished by augmenting maternal knowledge through education that employs locally accessible nutrient-rich foods to facilitate children's growth and development. This entails converting moringa leaves into moringa cake and mackerel tuna into chips as nutritional snack alternatives and flavor enhancers to substitute MSG, thereby supporting the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG). Objectives: This study aimed to determine the impact of the educational program on the processing of moringa cake, tuna-based flavor enhancers, and mackerel tuna chips for stunting prevention toward the knowledge of the Family Welfare Movements (PKK) mothers in Tongali Village. Methods: The study used a quasi-experimental design. The sampling method used was accidental sampling, comprising a sample size of 40 respondents. Bivariate analysis was performed utilizing the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank test. Results: Bivariate analysis demonstrated that the educational program significantly influenced the knowledge of PKK mothers before and after their implementation (Prob > |z| = 0.0000 < 0.05). Conclusions: This study aimed to enhance the engagement of PKK mothers in the utilization of moringa leaves and mackerel tuna for the preparation of nutritious foods, diminish the reliance on MSG to mitigate stunting, and bolster the local economy.

Abstract

The nutritional status of toddlers greatly affects their health, growth, and development, because toddlerhood is a crucial age when growth and development occur rapidly. Therefore, nutritional deficiencies during this period can lead to malnutrition in toddlers. This study aims to determine the relationship between family food income, basic immunization status, medical history, history of exclusive breastfeeding, food, and nutritional status in toddlers in the working area of Manulai II Village, Alak District, Kupang City. The sample was determined using the Lemeshow formula with a sample size of 80 respondents. Statistical tests used Chi-square analysis with a=0.05. The results showed that the variables of Family Food Income (p-value=0.266), Basic Immunization Status (p-value=0.158), Medical History (p-value=0.461), and History of Exclusive Breastfeeding (p-value 0.101) were not related to the nutritional status of toddlers in the working area of Manulai II Village, Alak District, Kupang City. It is hoped that mothers of toddlers will pay attention to and increase their family food income, pay attention to the basic immunization status of their toddlers every day, and increase their knowledge about the importance of medical history and exclusive breastfeeding in order to prevent malnutrition in toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Central obesity in adolescents is a growing health problem that has the potential to cause various non-communicable diseases in the future. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the influence of fruit and vegetable consumption, fast food consumption, and physical activity on waist circumference among male adolescents in Kupang City. Methods: The study design used was quantitative with a cross-sectional approach and utilized secondary data from the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) in Kupang City for the year 2023. The sample size consisted of 115 male adolescents aged 10–18 years selected from 66 census blocks. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with the chi-square test. Results: The results showed that there was no significant effect of fruit consumption (p-value=0.771 < 0.05), vegetables (p-value=1.000 < 0.05), fast food (p-value=0.487 < 0.05), as well as moderate and vigorous physical activity (p-value=0.950 < 0.005) and (p-value=0.397 < 0.05) on waist circumference. Conclusions: The conclusion of this study is that, in addition to fruit, vegetable, fast food consumption, and physical activity, other factors such as genetics and lifestyle also play an important role in controlling waist circumference in adolescent males, thus requiring healthy lifestyle interventions from an early age.
