Abstract

Purpose: Cashless banking is an innovative banking policy that is gaining prominence in today's digital era of technological advancement. This study investigates the correlation between profitability of the banking sector and adoption of cashless banking in Bangladesh. Research Methodology: The profitability of the cashless banking industry in Bangladesh was measured using Return on Equity (ROE) and Return on Assets (ROA). Profitability is determined by the transaction volume of Mobile Financial Services (MFS), Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), bit cards, and internet banking fund transfers (IBFT). This study uses a multiple regression approach to analyze the association between a bank's profitability and cashless banking. The data used in this analysis were collected from the annual reports of the Central Bank of Bangladesh over a seven-year period. Results: The findings indicate that IBFT has a notable favorable influence on return on equity (ROE), whereas ATM and debit cards have major adverse impacts on ROE. Additionally, mobile financial services (MFS) and IBFT have a positive effect on return on assets (ROA), but debit cards have a negative effect on ROA in Bangladesh’s banking business. The data indicate that nearly all the components have either a positive or negative influence on ROA or ROE. Contribution: However, only IBFT has a positive and substantial influence on ROA and ROE. The results of this study have moderate importance for the regulatory bodies and stakeholders of both banks and non-bank financial firms as well as for academics and the government as a whole.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines the effects of leadership styles and proactive behavior on the innovative work behaviors of private school teachers in Barkin, Ladi, and Plateau states. Research Methodology: The study drew a sample of private schoolteachers in Barkin-ladi using a quota sampling technique. The sample numbered 201, being male (82) and female (119), between the ages of 15 and 64 years, with different levels of educational qualification. The scales deployed in measuring innovative work behaviour, proactive behavior, and leadership styles were already standardized scales that were designed to measure the constructs in school settings. Results: The study found that the sampled teachers exhibited all leadership styles: transformational, transactional, and laissez. Leadership styles and proactive work behavior had a significant effect on teachers’ innovative work behaviors. There was no significant interaction effect between leadership style and proactive work behavior on innovative work behavior. Limitations: The sample size of this study was limited because the actual population was uncertain. Contribution: This study shows that transformational and transactional leadership styles, as well as proactive work behaviors, are important to provoke teachers’ innovative work behaviors in private schools in Barkin-ladi. Novelty: The study has been able to show the teacher plays the role of the leader in the class and his innovative teaching behaviour is provoked by proactive behaviours and transformational/transactional leadership styles.

Abstract

Purpose: This study assesses the overall performance of commercial banks in Bangladesh by classifying them into first- and second-generation groups. Research Methodology: The investigation encompassed secondary data from 2016 to 2020, along with a meticulous examination of the ratios of ten banks during that timeframe. Standard software such as the Microsoft Office package was utilized for conducting horizontal, vertical, and rational analyses. Return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), and net profit margins are the primary metrics used to assess overall performance. Results: Research indicates that the first generation excels in certain instances, while the second generation performs at its peak capacity in other cases. Therefore, a comprehensive outcome exists. Implications: These indicators offer a concise and influential message to all stakeholders that may shape their decision-making process. Limitations: It may be beneficial to consider a longer timeframe and gather insights from interviews with industry professionals for subsequent studies. Other factors to consider include customer insights, industry conditions, the nation's economy, monetary policy, and the global trade situation. Novelty: This study focuses on the influence of employee retention on organizational performance in a service-oriented government institution.

Abstract

Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to examine the effect of agency banking on the financial inclusion of SMEs, determine factors that influence the adoption of agency banking by SMEs, and establish an agency banking model that can be adopted to improve the financial inclusion of SMEs in Zimbabwe. Research Methodology: The study uses a mixed-method approach and is explanatory. Questionnaires and informants were used as research instruments, with a random sample of 78 respondents and 10 purposively selected agents. Inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Results: The findings shed light on the effects of agency banking on financial inclusion and impediments to financial inclusion, and identify the channels of agency banking being used most frequently. Factors that influenced the adoption of technology were also identified. Limitations: The study was limited to one population group and one locality, although financial inclusion should ideally include all population groups. Contribution: This study recommends a unique model that can be used to enhance financial inclusion through agency banking, which has been identified as a pillar of financial inclusion. Therefore, the results are useful to policymakers and future researchers.

Abstract

Purpose: The prevalence of cashless payments has increased globally owing to their myriad benefits. Furthermore, the use of cashless payments has also increased. Nevertheless, there is a need for more comprehensive research on the acceptance and current methodologies of cashless transactions. This study aims to gain a thorough understanding by identifying the entities involved and their pivotal functions in the payment ecosystem. Research Methodology: This report seeks to answer two research questions: i) Which factors are involved in the cashless payment ecosystem? What key elements influence the players in adopting a cashless payment ecosystem? Six key ecosystem players and their influencing elements were identified by comprehensively evaluating 63 publications published between 2015 and 2021. Results: Several benefits are associated with cashless payments, which have led to their growing popularity worldwide. Furthermore, during the COVID-19 epidemic, there was a significant increase in the use of cashless payment methods. Limitations: On the other hand, more holistic studies on the widespread use of cashless payment methods and their respective modern behaviors are needed. Contribution: In addition to providing a foundation for further empirical research, this study contributes to resolving adoption-related concerns. Novelty: This study’s original approach to understanding the various elements driving cashless payment system development by focusing on participant roles and functions is unique. Unlike previous studies, this study examines human dynamics rather than technology or regulatory issues.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the connection between Kabale District Local Government (KLDG) staff retention and organizational performance. Research Methodology: A correlational study design with the goal of reporting on the connection between staff retention and organizational performance in the local government of the Kabale District. A sample size of 96 respondents was chosen from among the 142 division personnel and staff in the sub-counties that participated in the survey. A survey consisting of questionnaires and interviews was conducted to gather data. Results: The degree and intensity of the association between employee retention and organizational performance were determined using a correlation analysis. Qualitative data derived from interviews were documented and categorized verbatim. When the influence of the work environment was considered, the study discovered a very weak link between employee retention and organizational performance. Limitations: This study was conducted to cover employee retention and employee performance in one district, and the results cannot be generalized. Contribution: The study suggests that the Kabale District Local Government (KCLG) needs to make improvements to its workplace to encourage staff members to remain with the institution. The district should follow established protocols, including local government, public financial management, and public service standing orders.   An independent investigation of the contribution of policy execution to the achievement of organizational objectives in Ugandan local governments is also warranted.
