Abstract

In Tuban Regency, East Java, Indonesia, PT PLN Nusantara Power Unit Tanjung Awar-Awar Power Plant was built. There are two 350 MW coal-fired plants in operation. This project was built based on Presidential Regulation of the Republic of Indonesia No 71 of 2006 dated July 5, 2006 concerning assignment to PT PLN. The company is committed to the environment. They hire a highly skilled team of technicians and engineers to run water treatment plants (WTP). The PT PLN Nusantara Power Unit Tanjung Awar-Awar was able to solve many problems that were caused by the WTP by analyzing data and observing actual conditions. Specially to address concerns such as efficiency, safety, and saving money. A challenge of WTP operation is the limited ability of ion exchange resin (Anion) to remove impure ions from raw water. Hence, PLN introduced an innovative program called "THE IMPLEMENTATION OF 3 IN 1 ANION OPERATION PATTERN". We developed this program because anion beds need to be replaced every so often. The program reduces anion bed component replacement frequency. Due to the WTP's two anion beds, this operating method is possible. The first three days of operation are spent using Anion Bed-A, while Anion Bed-B remains on standby. We're contributing to 1) the anion bed replacement has been cut from once a month to once every three months, 2) significant reductions in waste water pollution load in 2022 of TSS=0,000624 tonnes and CL=0.00000714 tonnes.

Abstract

PT PLN Nusantara Power Unit Pembangkit Tanjung Awar-Awar (UPTA) is a state-owned company that supplies electricity to areas of Java and Bali. Using coal as the main fuel, UPTA currently has two mills that each has capacity of 350 MW in coal-fired mode. Since the last few years, UPTA has been focusing on bringing efficiency into its overall operations, maximizing efforts for an improved output, modernizing machinery, and reducing emissions. After conducting routine inspection and examinations, UPTA decided to improve the air preheating element, so-called air preheater (APH), as an enabling condition to heat both the primary and secondary air to a temperature required for effective combustion in a boiler. To seek for an optimal APH, a redesign project was initiated to primarily change the element profile from a distorted wavy flow path to a linear flow path. The profile surface was coated with an added "enamel" layer, which prevents ash from adhering readily. Our measurements and calculations were based upon the data collected in October 2022 (pre- implementation) and within the periods of February to June 2023 (post-implementation). As a result, the average power consumption was reduced: from over 1740 kWh per month to become around 1377 - 1535 kWh per month, or 11% - 21%, for the induced draft fan (ID Fan) and from over 1900 kWh per month to become around 1450 - 1542 kWh per month, or 19% - 29%, for the primary air fan (PA Fan).

Abstract

Reporting information on carbon emission from company operations is a form of social and environmental responsibility that contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to achieve the SDGs target by 2030. This carbon-related reporting is the role of accountants through carbon accounting as a form of transparency and accountability, as well as an effort to reduce GHGs emissions produced by companies. This research is intended to see how energy sector companies implement voluntary disclosure of carbon emissions with several determinants which is reflected in the company size scale, the exposure carried out by companies in the company’s website media, and shareholding owned by institutions. The research population is in energy sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during 2018-2022. Samples of this research used purposive sampling, so that 50 observational data were obtained consisting of 10 energy sector companies in 5 years period. Result show that media exposure influences carbon emission disclosure. Companies that present media exposure have an increase in the carbon emission disclosure level. Meanwhile, firm size and institutional ownership have no influence on the carbon emission disclosure. A company with a large size scale and high institutional shareholding does not guarantee that it will report information of carbon emission thoroughly.

Abstract

In the context of global sustainable development (SD) and China's ecological civilization construction (ECC), China has entered a new era of change, and its social, economic and environmental development is moving toward SD. However, due to inadequate understanding of the root causes of environmental problems, in the process of promoting the ECC, the key role of education in this process is ignored. At the same time, the United Nations (UN) clearly pointed out that education is extremely important in promoting SD and increasing the capacity of people to solve the environment and development issues in the agenda in 21st century. Integrating the concept of ecological civilization into education plays a crucial role in solving environmental problems. However, with the popularization of ecological civilization education (ECE) and the deepening of research, its existing problems are becoming more and more obvious, so it is necessary to make a systematic plan for the development of ECE. By reviewing the historical process of ECD development, this paper aims to discover the important role of ECD in China's ECC process and the realization of SD, discusses the relevant prospects and challenges of ECE, and summarizes and puts forward the policy and enlightenment for the future development of ECE in China. This paper contributes to the ongoing discussion on education to address environmental or development issues, enabling relevant policy makers and stakeholders to see the present or future opportunities and complexities of ECD and make the right choices.
