Abstract

Purpose: Seaweed possesses substantial potential but remains under-processed and underutilized. One of the products derived from seaweed is soap and body scrub. This community service activity aims to increase public understanding of seaweed, stimulate creative ideas, and equip participants with the basic skills for manufacturing seaweed-based products. Methodology/approach: The partner for this community service is the Pelita Makkio Baji Seaweed Cultivation Group in Ujung Baji Village, Takalar District, which involves 15 participants. The activity was conducted through training and mentoring in the production of soap and body scrub products. The participants’ understanding was measured through pre-tests and post-tests Results/findings: The pre-test indicated that the community’s knowledge of the benefits and innovations of seaweed was approximately 20 %, and after the activity (post-test), it reached 100 %. This activity also led to the creation of social media accounts as a marketing medium. Conclusions: Based on the above results, it can be concluded that community service activities have a significant positive impact on the community’s knowledge. Limitations: This study involved only a small number of participants from a single village; thus, the findings may not be generalizable to the wider community. Further activities involving more diverse groups and locations are recommended to strengthen the results Contributions: This program contributes to community empowerment by enhancing the ability of local seaweed farmers to innovate and manufacture seaweed-based products. It also provides a practical example of sustainable economic development through local resource utilization.

Abstract

Purpose: Maintenance plays a crucial role in the industrial sector to maintain and restore the optimal performance of machinery and equipment. This activity, conducted as a community service for mechanical engineering students, aims to provide an initial understanding of maintenance concepts and strategies as a preparation for entering the workforce. Methodology/approach: The program used interactive lectures, presentations, discussions, and case studies covering breakdown, corrective, preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance topics. It also introduced the DMAIC steps (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) and the link between maintenance, productivity, and industrial processes. Results: The program improved students’ understanding of basic maintenance concepts, asset management strategies, and the importance of maintenance for smooth production and safety. Students were also able to identify critical factors in maintenance management, such as machines, materials, methods, manpower, and the environment. Conclusions: The seminar effectively increased students’ knowledge and readiness to face the challenges of the workplace. A solid foundation of maintenance concepts enhances efficiency, productivity, and competitiveness in the industry. Limitations: The study was limited to one group of students and short-term training; therefore, further studies involving larger samples and longitudinal evaluations are recommended. Contributions: This program provides practical and theoretical insights, supporting the development of future workers with strong analytical and problem-solving skills in maintenance engineering.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to support the government of Ulak Kerbau Baru Village in modernizing the preparation of its Medium-Term Village Development Plan (RPJMDes) through Big Data technology to enhance participatory, transparent, and evidence-based planning. Methodology/approach: The program took place in Ulak Kerbau Baru Village, Tanjung Raja District, Ogan Ilir Regency. Activities included training, technical assistance, and digital community surveys. The tools used were laptops and Android smartphones, while the main software comprised Google Forms, Google Data Studio, QGIS 3.28 Firenze, Microsoft Excel 2021, SPSS 26, and NVivo 12 Plus. Results/findings: The initiative improved the digital data management skills of village officials and increased community participation, with 215 respondents engaging in online surveys. A data-driven RPJMDes was produced, supported by thematic maps and interactive dashboards. NVivo analysis revealed five dominant community priorities: road infrastructure, agriculture, digitalization, education, and health. Conclusions: Integrating Big Data into village planning enhances transparency, accountability, and evidence-based governance. The approach also fosters stronger community engagement and provides a replicable model for other villages with similar characteristics. Limitations: The study was limited by inadequate internet infrastructure and its focus on a single village, which restricts broader generalization. Contributions: This research advances participatory governance and rural planning by demonstrating practical Big Data applications at the village level, offering a model for policymakers and local governments to strengthen data-driven decision-making in rural contexts.

Abstract

Purpose: This community service activity aims to support the digital transformation of public services in the employment sector through the development and training of a web-based job-seeker application for the Department of Manpower and Transmigration in South Sumatra Province. This innovation was introduced as a solution to the previous system’s limitations, which relied heavily on administrators for job postings and updates. Research Methodology: The implementation combined user-based system development with staff training. The development process involved needs analysis, interface design, testing, and the integration of an employer-account feature for companies to manage job vacancies independently. Training was conducted face-to-face on December 5, 2023, for six Disnakertrans staff members through interactive lectures and hands-on sessions. Results: The newly added feature successfully improved the efficiency and transparency of publishing job vacancies. Companies can now post, update, and monitor vacancies independently, while Disnakertrans staff have improved their technical and managerial competencies in managing the digital employment system. Conclusions: This activity makes a tangible contribution to supporting the digital transformation of regional public services through the integration of software development and capacity building, which can be replicated by other local government agencies in Indonesia. Limitations: The activity was limited to the provincial level and has not yet been expanded to district or city offices. A long-term evaluation of system adoption and sustainability has not been conducted. Contributions: This activity contributes to regional digital transformation by integrating software development and capacity-building strategies, providing a replicable model for other local government institutions seeking to enhance public service digitalization.

Abstract

Purpose: This activity aims to enhance the digital financial literacy of MSMEs, provide practical skills in the use of QRIS, and offer guidance in its implementation for daily transactions. Moreover, the program seeks to cultivate behavioral changes among local entrepreneurs by encouraging transparency, accountability, and technological adaptation in their business practices. Research Methodology: This activity was conducted on August 28, 2025, and was attended by 30 participants consisting of MSME owners and representatives from the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes). The method used included a sharing session of QRIS and a demonstration of its practical use. Results: Participants demonstrated high levels of engagement and enthusiasm, particularly during the QRIS usage simulation. An increase in participants’ knowledge of QRIS was evident from the improvement in their pre-test (55) and post-test scores (83). Conclusions: The implementation of community service activities focused on training and mentoring in the use of QRIS for MSMEs in Purworejo Village has had a positive impact on increasing the community's digital financial literacy. Limitations: Constraints related to limited smartphone proficiency and the substantial distance to formal financial institutions resulted in this program being confined primarily to socialization efforts. It is anticipated that subsequent community engagement initiatives will be able to provide more comprehensive support, particularly in facilitating MSMEs through the formal QRIS registration and merchant onboarding process. Contributions: By equipping participants with both knowledge and hands-on experience, this initiative contributes to improve MSMEs’ knowledge of QRIS usage and encourage some business owners to begin adopting QRIS in their transactional practices.

Abstract

Purpose: Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, as boarding educational institutions, play a strategic role in developing the character and life skills of their students. The implementation of peer counsellors through a supervised prospective trainer scheme in Islamic boarding schools aims to strengthen the psychosocial support of students while simultaneously developing a sustainable intervention model appropriate to the Islamic boarding education. Research Methodology: The community service program was implemented using a variety of lecture methods to convey peer counselling concepts, guided discussions and assignments to deepen the material, workshops for practical counselling skills training, and mentoring to bridge the role of peer counsellors with school counsellors in service implementation. Results: The results showed an increase in post-test scores for all participants compared to the pre-test. This finding indicates that supervised training positively contributed to improving participants' reflective abilities and readiness to carry out their roles as peer counsellors. Conclusions: This community service activity proved effective in improving knowledge, skills, and readiness as peer counsellors, particularly in their understanding of psychosocial support and basic counselling skills such as empathy, reflective listening, and supportive communication. Limitations: Program limitations include the limited number of participants at one partner Islamic boarding school, the relatively short duration of mentoring, and the evaluation's inability to systematically measure the direct impact on the psychological well-being of the students receiving the services. Contributions: This program provides practical guidance for Islamic boarding schools in developing a friendly, accessible, and sustainable psychosocial support system through the empowerment of trained peer counsellors.

Abstract

Purpose: This community service program aims to enhance the digital financial literacy and accounting management skills of the members and administrators of Koperasi Produsen Srikandi Jaya Sambas in West Kalimantan through the implementation of a web-based accounting information system called Aplikasi Akuntansi Koperasi (AKSI). The initiative was developed in response to the cooperative’s limited financial management capacity and the absence of standardized accounting practices that align with modern digital governance principles. Methodology/Approach: The program was carried out at the cooperative’s office in Desa Sendoyan, Sambas Regency, by lecturers and students from Politeknik Negeri Sambas (Poltesa). A case-based learning and hands-on mentoring approach was applied, allowing participants to learn directly using real cooperative financial data. The AKSI system was designed in accordance with SAK EP and Permenkop No. 2/2024 standards and included stages such as installation, user registration, transaction recording, and automated financial reporting. Results: The implementation of the AKSI system significantly improved participants’ technical competence and digital accounting understanding, increasing from 52.60% to 90.91%. Participants reported higher confidence in performing transaction recording and generating financial statements. The system effectively produced accurate, real-time, and standardized reports, thereby improving efficiency, transparency, and accountability in cooperative financial management. Conclusions: The AKSI application enhanced efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in cooperative financial management. Limitations: The short duration of the program and the varying levels of digital literacy among participants may limit long-term sustainability. Contributions: This project contributes a replicable digital accounting model that supports cooperative modernization and promotes inclusive financial transparency across Indonesia.
