Abstract

The concept of financial liberalization emerged in the early 1970s from the seminal works of McKinnon (1973) and Shaw (1973). These authors conceptualized financial sector liberalization as a key mechanism through which financial development could enhance economic growth. Their theory was well received by international institutions such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, which later promoted financial liberalization as a cornerstone policy to stimulate development in emerging economies.According to this framework, liberalizing the financial sector facilitates more efficient mobilization and allocation of financial resources. It also strengthens the coordination between savings and investment, thereby contributing to macroeconomic stability and long-term growth. This article aims to empirically assess the impact of financial liberalization on private savings. To this end, we employ the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method along with stationarity tests to examine the relationship between financial liberalization indicators and private savings in Maghreb Arab countries over the 2008-2016 period. The econometric results reveal that economic growth achieved during the period was accompanied by an increase in real per capita income, which in turn positively influenced private savings levels across the region.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of TOE Factor and Entrepreneurial Orientation on the Social Media-relayed Performance of multi-industry MSMEs in the Greater Jakarta area, considering the mediating role of Innovation Capability, and CRM Capability, as well as the role of Social Media Adoption moderation. MSMEs were chosen because of their significant role in the national economy, but still face challenges in optimizing digital technology, especially social media. This study uses a quantitative approach with the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method, and involves 243 respondents from multi-industry MSME actors in the Greater Jakarta area to answer surveys distributed online and offline. The results showed that Innovation Capability significantly mediated the relationship between TOE Factor and Social Media-related Performance, and CRM Capability significantly mediated the relationship between Entrepreneurial Orientation and Social Media-related Performance. In contrast, Social Media Adoption does not play a significant role as a moderator in strengthening relationships between variables. These findings make a theoretical contribution to the development of the Dynamic Capability Theory and TOE framework by emphasizing the importance of organizational readiness and strategic orientation in building customer-based digital capabilities. Practically, these results emphasize that the digitalization of MSMEs is not enough just with social media adoption, but requires structural readiness, entrepreneurial leadership, and a consistent customer management system. This research also provides relevant managerial implications for MSME owners, policymakers, and business training and mentoring providers.

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media users presents new challenges, one of which is the phenomenon known as Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), which drives impulsive consumer behavior. This study investigates FoMO and its impact on Purchase Intention when using the Paylater payment method for smartphone purchases. It analyzes the relationships between the Imitation of Influencers, Social Comparison, Materialism, and Purchase Intention. The research sample includes 150 respondents from Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, Depok, and Bekasi, all of whom are active social media users who have used Paylater for smartphone purchases. Data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) approach. The results reveal that the Imitation of Influencers significantly affects Social Comparison and Materialism among millennials. Social Comparison significantly impacts FoMO, which in turn influences Purchase Intention. Additionally, Materialism significantly affects Purchase Intention. However, Social Comparison does not have a significant effect on Materialism. This study highlights how FoMO and Materialism are triggered by the lifestyles promoted by influencers and the convenience of Paylater payment methods, which drive consumption behavior among millennials. The findings provide insights into marketing strategies targeting consumers based on prevailing social trends.

Abstract

The phenomenon of quiet quitting has emerged as a salient issue in the public sector, particularly among civil servants (ASN). The objective of this study is to examine the impact of perceived organizational support, toxic culture, workload, and work-life balance on work productivity. The present study will utilize the concept of "quiet quitting" as a mediating variable, while organizational culture will be used as a moderating variable. The study was conducted in the Government of Buleleng Regency, which has a population of 1,242 civil servants. The sample population was comprised of 92 respondents, who were selected through the implementation of the simple random sampling method. Subsequently, the collected data were subjected to rigorous analysis using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method, implemented through the utilization of the SmartPLS software. The findings indicate that perceived organizational support and the presence of toxic culture have a detrimental impact on work productivity. Conversely, factors such as workload and work-life balance have been demonstrated to exert a positive influence on productivity. Quiet quitting does not directly influence work productivity; however, it serves as a mediator in the relationship between perceived organizational support, toxic culture, and workload on work productivity. Furthermore, the association between quiet quitting and work productivity is not influenced by organizational culture. These findings suggest that a lack of organizational support and an unhealthy work culture can increase the tendency for quiet quitting, which can ultimately affect ASN productivity. Consequently, there is a necessity for policies that promote a positive work environment, work-life balance, and digital leadership strategies to enhance the productivity of civil servants.

Abstract

This study investigates whether and how entrepreneurship education (EE) shapes university students’ entrepreneurial intention (EI) in Makassar, Indonesia, focusing on the roles of financial literacy (FL) and entrepreneurial literacy (EL). We conducted a cross-sectional survey of students who had taken entrepreneurship-related courses. Regression-based path analysis was used to estimate direct effects from EE to EI and to test capability-building links from EE to FL and EL. We examined both indirect (mediation) effects via FL and EL using bootstrapped estimates and the conditional (moderation) influence of FL and EL on the EE→EI relationship. EE exerts a positive and significant direct effect on EI (β = 0.276, p < .001). EE also predicts higher levels of FL and EL, and each literacy is positively associated with EI. Indirect-effect tests indicate partial mediation: EE increases EI in part because it builds FL and EL, which subsequently elevate intention. In addition, higher levels of FL and EL strengthen the EE→EI link, consistent with a conditional (moderation) role for these literacies. EE is most impactful when it is competence-rich. Embedding structured financial planning, market validation, and venture design practices into EE—paired with authentic assessments (e.g., pro formas, MVPs, incubator sprints)—should yield larger gains in EI than theory-only formats. By jointly modeling capability-building (mediation) and capability-amplifying (moderation) roles of FL and EL, this study clarifies how and when EE translates into stronger entrepreneurial intention in an emerging-market higher-education context.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of external disturbances - such as world energy and oil costs, key interest rates and the money supply of major economic powers (Federal Reserve Bank (FED), People's Bank of China) on the engagement of French-speaking countries in world trade. We developed a composite index of external shocks using principal component analysis (PCA), with the aim of reflecting the shared dynamics of these variables. A Panel VAR (PVAR) model was estimated based on quarterly data from 2000 to 2018. The data show that these disruptions have a significant and time-varying impact on franc zone trade, underlining strong external dependence. The study recommends a better alignment of economic policies, dynamic cyclical surveillance and a policy of diversifying trading partners in order to consolidate the resilience of Franc zone economies to international disruptions.
