Abstract

Dedi Mulyadi's successful 2024 West Java Gubernatorial Election campaign integrated traditional Sundanese culture with digital media, a strategy analyzed through a descriptive qualitative methodology examining academic sources, online news, and social media. His consistent portrayal as a compassionate, humble, and approachable leader, amplified by positive content on YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok, was central to his political communication. Mulyadi deliberately utilized Sundanese cultural symbols to reinforce his political identity, while significant support from a coalition of political parties broadened his electoral reach. Through an effective agenda-setting strategy, he successfully framed crucial issues positively, thereby countering negative campaigns and offering valuable insights for future local political communication approaches that blend digital and cultural elements.

Abstract

This study examines the strategy of Radio Pikiran Rakyat FM (PRFM) in implementing a media partner program designed to reinforce a positive brand image and expand audience reach. Employing a descriptive qualitative methodology, data were obtained through in-depth interviews with PRFM’s internal stakeholders (General Manager, Head of Marketing Communication, Editor in Chief) and external media partners, as well as through participant observation. The findings reveal the enactment of five key image dimensions—credibility, trust, security, transparency, and engagement—strengthened by the professionalism of PRFM’s team, the flexibility of full barter and semi-barter collaboration models, and responsive communication practices. Media partners reported enhanced event exposure and expressed strong loyalty toward ongoing collaboration. Although formal evaluation currently focuses on partner retention, the introduction of quantitative and qualitative feedback mechanisms is recommended to support continuous program improvement. The study concludes that PRFM’s media partner program effectively solidifies its positive image and fosters strategic synergy while highlighting the importance of structured evaluation and the diversification of promotional platforms to optimize collaborative outcomes.

Abstract

Thrifting, or buying second-hand fashion items, is becoming increasingly popular among Indonesian Generation Z as a response to sustainability concerns and criticisms of the fast fashion industry. This study explores the motivations and perceptions of Gen Z consumers in adopting thrifting as a sustainable lifestyle. Using a qualitative case study method, in-depth interviews were conducted with nine young urban thrifting consumers. The findings indicate that economic and aesthetic motives are dominant, while environmental awareness emerges later, shaped by digital content and social campaigns. Social stigma and limited environmental education remain barriers. This research provides insight into sustainable consumer behavior and strategic recommendations for fashion industry players and public communication campaigns.

Abstract

Indonesian traditional dance, as part of cultural heritage, contains deep symbolic values. One interesting example is the Salonreng Dance from Ara Village, South Sulawesi, which reflects the relationship between humans and nature, culture, and spiritual power. Although it plays an important role in the lives of the local community, understanding of the symbolic meaning contained in the movements, music, costumes, and rituals of this dance is still limited. This study aims to explore the symbolic meaning in the Salonreng Dance and its role in strengthening the cultural identity of the Ara Village community. This study uses a qualitative approach with semiotic analysis, specifically Ferdinand de Saussure's theory, to understand the relationship between the signifier and the signified in each dance movement. Data was collected through interviews with key informants, participatory observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that each movement in the Salonreng Dance contains symbolic meanings that reflect local cultural values, such as happiness in marriage, acceptance, and maintaining harmony in the household. In addition, Salonreng Dance also plays an important role in strengthening social relationships and preserving ancestral traditions. The significance of these findings lies in a deeper understanding of the role of dance in maintaining local cultural identity and facing the challenges of globalization. This research also contributes to the preservation of Salonreng Dance as a cultural heritage that must be preserved and passed on to future generations.
