Abstract

The achievement of Long-Acting Contraceptive Methods (LACM) in the District of Medan Sunggal is still relatively low. This low achievement can be attributed to several factors influencing contraceptive selection. Factors determining contraceptive choice among Fertile Age Couples (FAC) include age, employment status, number of children, mother's education, family income, knowledge, quality of family planning services, and husband's support. This research aims to determine: (1) variations in contraceptive method selection in the District of Medan Sunggal; and (2) the relationship between factors influencing contraceptive selection and the achievement of LACM; (3). This study employs a quantitative method with univariate and bivariate analyses. Data analysis from 97 respondents shows: (1) 80 respondents use Non-LACM and 17 respondents use LACM; (2) variables significantly related are age (0.006), number of children (0.001), family income (0.015), knowledge (0.007), and husband's support (0.000) (p-value < 0.05).

Abstract

Mangrove Forest Conservation Efforts in Pematang Kuala Village, Teluk Mengkudu District, Serdang Bedagai Regency. This study aims to determine what factors cause mangrove forest damage and what conservation efforts have been carried out in the mangrove forest area. The location of the study is the mangrove forest ecosystem in Pematang Kuala Village with a land area of 52 ha. The results of the study showed that: (1) In this mangrove forest area there are several types of mangroves that are cultivated, namely, Rhizophora, Avichennia, Brugueira and also Nipah. If examined, the factors or problems of mangrove forest damage in this village are due to natural factors themselves. (2) Rehabilitation efforts are carried out using the 1x1 planting technique or using the spacing clump planting technique. Using the spacing clump technique can reduce the high level of damage or death in the mangrove planting process. There are several forms of conservation efforts, including rehabilitation, preservation, maintenance, utilization and also preservation.

Abstract

To speed up and simplify development in an area, it is important to identify areas that have the potential to become growth centers. The more developed the growth center, the more advanced the supporting areas or hinterlands will be. This research aims to analyze sub-districts which are centers of growth and hinterland areas in South Labuhanbatu Regency. This analysis can be carried out using the scalogram method, gravity, and Konig and Shimbel values. The research results show that Kotapinang sub-district is the center of growth, while Sungai Kanan, Silangkitang, Kampung Rakyat and Torgamba sub-districts act as hinterland areas.

Abstract

Coal mining activities in East Kalimantan have had a significant impact on the environmental and social conditions of the local community. Although this industry contributes significantly to the regional economy, various problems such as land degradation, water pollution, and socio-economic changes cannot be ignored. This study aims to analyze the impact of coal mining on the environment and social life of the community in East Kalimantan. The research methods used are literature review and secondary data analysis from various reliable sources. The results show that coal mining activities cause deforestation, decreased water quality due to mining waste, and changes in the economic structure and livelihoods of the community. To overcome these negative impacts, stricter policies on environmental management are needed, as well as community empowerment so that they can adapt to the social changes that occur. This study is expected to provide insights for policymakers and academics in developing more sustainable mining impact mitigation strategies.

Abstract

Abstract: Indonesia, as a disaster-prone country, requires effective disaster mitigation efforts. Youth participation in disaster mitigation has increased significantly over the past few decades, marked by their involvement in various preparedness activities and policy advocacy. This study aims to identify, analyze, and summarize the contributions of youth in disaster mitigation, as well as explore the supporting factors and challenges they face, through a systematic literature review. The findings indicate that youth play an important role across several scales: individual scale, pre-disaster, during disaster, post-disaster, and community scale. The factors driving youth involvement include system support, individual capacity, as well as motivation and active participation. However, there are challenges that hinder youth engagement, such as limited resources, system weaknesses, and a lack of awareness and participation from the community. This study recommends developing community-based disaster mitigation and utilizing social media as a campaign tool. These findings underscore the importance of empowering youth to play an active role in disaster mitigation in a more structured and sustainable manner.

Abstract

This research provides an important insight into the development imbalance in Langkat Regency, which is caused by the concentration of facilities and infrastructure in Stabat District. Using three analytical approaches—Centrality Index, König and Shimbel Connectivity, and Gravity Analysis—the study successfully identifies other districts with potential as growth centers that can help reduce this imbalance. The results of the study show that the development of more than one growth center, such as Stabat District as the primary center and Tanjung Pura and Bohorok Districts as secondary growth centers, can create a balance between the central, southern, eastern, and western regions of Langkat Regency. With the establishment of more evenly distributed growth centers, it is expected that facilities and infrastructure access can be more evenly distributed to hinterland areas, which previously had limited access. This approach also provides a strong foundation for more inclusive and equitable development planning, taking into account the interconnectedness of regions that can support each other in economic interactions and public services. Thus, this study serves as an important reference for designing development strategies that are more just for all districts in Langkat Regency.

Abstract

The West Java region contains several basins that have been studied for resource and disaster-related purposes, one of which is located in the southern part of the Bandung Basin. The southern area of the Bandung Basin falls within the Quaternary Volcanic Zone and the Southern Mountain Zone. The Garsela Fault is an active fault that stretches from southern Garut to southern Bandung. This study aims to observe structural lineaments around the Garsela Fault in southern Garut. The data used includes DEMNAS imagery and geological maps. The use of hill shading techniques produces three-dimensional shadows and allows for manual extraction of lineaments. More structural lineaments were identified due to the rugged mountainous morphology with Tertiary-aged lithological formations. The identified lineaments predominantly trend northeast–southwest. north–south, east–west, and some northwest–southeast. The northeast–southwest direction is the dominant structural orientation in southern Garut, aligning with the orientation of the Garsela Fault. The use of this imagery can serve as an initial step for further research in identifying geological structural lineaments.

Abstract

Sojol Subdistrict, Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi, is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, dominated by steep hills, sandy loam soil, and variable rainfall, making it highly prone to landslides. This study maps landslide vulnerability potential using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology through overlay with five weighted scoring criteria: slope gradient (DEMNAS), land cover, rainfall (CHIRPS), soil type, and rock type. Geological data and land cover data were processed using ArcGIS 10.8. The results of the study show that the landslide vulnerability level of Sojol Sub-district is divided into three classes: low, moderate, and high. Villages with high landslide risk levels are Siboang, Bou, and Balukang, characterised by steep slopes (>70%), sparse dryland forest vegetation, and clay rock types that are highly susceptible to erosion during the rainy season. The landslide hazard map can be used as a basis for disaster mitigation, spatial planning, and raising public awareness of landslide risks.

Abstract

Household water insecurity is defined as the inability of individuals to access adequate, reliable, and safe water. This study aims to measure and analyze the level of household water insecurity around the Lae Souraya River in Desa Oboh, Rundeng District, Subulussalam City. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The primary instrument used was the Household Water Insecurity Experiences (HWISE) Scale, which was administered to 80 respondents. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to describe the prevalence and scale of water insecurity. The findings indicate a high level of water insecurity, with 76% of households classified as water-insecure. This high prevalence suggests that the majority of households frequently experience worries and challenges related to water accessibility, quantity, and quality for domestic purposes such as drinking, cooking, and hygiene. This research can serve as an empirical basis for policymaking aimed at improving public health and welfare in Desa Oboh.
