Abstract

Teenage girls are at risk of experiencing anemia because they menstruate every month. Anemia that is not treated immediately can negatively impact the short and long-term. In the long term, the impact of anemia can also affect pregnancy. Pregnancy with anemia will increase the risk of having a baby with a low birth weight and the risk that the child born will grow up to be stunted. So, women need to prevent anemia as early as possible. Education regarding the prevention of anemia has yet to be carried out at MTsS Pesantren Thawalib, and students have not taken Blood Supplement Tablets (BST) once a week. MTsS female students who menstruate every month are the right target group to be given education and health information related to preventing anemia. This service activity aims to increase female students' knowledge regarding anemia prevention. The methods used were counseling, putting up posters, giving BST, distributing pocketbooks, and distributing BST drinking calendars. The extension activities began with a pre-test and post-test to measure female students' knowledge before and after the education on anemia prevention. There was an increase in the average knowledge before 5.26 (pre-test) to 7.87 (post-test) after being given counseling with a p-value of 0.000. This shows that the anemia prevention education that has been carried out can increase the level of knowledge of female students. Students and schools should optimally utilize poster media, pocketbooks, and BST drinking calendars. With this service activity, female students can prevent anemia by regularly consuming BST once a week. Support is needed from MTsS Pesantren Thawalib Padang to monitor the student's compliance with BST consumption by checking the BST drinking calendar distributed to each student.

Abstract

Nagari Ampek Koto Palembayan has a wealth of natural resources due to its fertile soil and favorable topography. However, with the existing potential, Nagari Ampek Koto Palembayan faces challenges in achieving sustainable development targets, especially in health, animal husbandry, plantations, and the economy. Health problems related to stunting in children, limited animal feed in the livestock sector, pathogen infections that attack banana plants in the plantation sector, and the low price of palm sugar in the economic sector are the main obstacles to improving community welfare. As a form of empowerment, the research team conducted a series of interventions designed to increase community awareness and knowledge on these issues. Socialization and education on nutrition for mothers of toddlers were conducted to reduce stunting rates, training on making animal feed based on agricultural waste aimed at increasing feed availability, and lectures on how to prevent pathogen infections in banana plants aimed at maintaining the sustainability of the plantation sector. In addition, the community was also trained to process palm sugar into a higher value-added product, namely ant sugar. The results of these activities showed an increased understanding of the importance of nutrition for children to prevent stunting and an understanding of agricultural waste management and ant sugar production, which also encouraged the community to utilize existing resources optimally.

Abstract

The Moringa plant, a tropical species, exhibits prolific growth and is abundantly present in Indonesia and other tropical regions worldwide. An extended lifespan, continuous flowering, and a high tolerance for elevated temperatures characterize it. Utilizing its components, including leaves, bark, seeds, and roots, this multifaceted plant is renowned for its therapeutic properties. The plant's antioxidants and various nutrients, including vitamins and minerals (iron, magnesium, vitamin B6, vitamin B2, vitamin C, and vitamin A), have led to studies on the plant's potential health benefits. In order to develop the local economy in Ulakan village, Padang Pariaman Regency, Moringa plants were processed by using the plant leaves to manufacture herbal tea, which can then be sold. This community service program was significant given the widespread presence and ease of cultivation of Moringa plants within the local region. The program involved the planning and selection of the activity site, the implementation of training sessions, and the assessment of the program's outcomes. The result of this community engagement initiative was the demonstrated interest of many participants in producing Moringa leaf tea.

Abstract

There has been an increase in the number of refilled drinking water depots (DAMIU) yearly because they answer most people's needs in urban areas. Implementing hygiene and sanitation management at DAMIU is critical because it affects the quality of drinking water consumed by the public. The community engagement activities were carried out in stages at 25 depots located in the working area of the Andalas Community Health Center from June to July 2023. The method used was providing education regarding hygiene and sanitation requirements. Refill by statutory regulations and provide equipment for implementing personal hygiene to supply drinking water depot workers as well as making posters that will be posted at each refill drinking water depot, which is a community service partner regarding the implementation of personal hygiene and sanitation at refill drinking water depots. Evaluation of the activities results shows increased workers' knowledge regarding the importance of implementing personal hygiene while working. It is hoped that educational media can increase workers' compliance in implementing personal hygiene and sanitation while working.

Abstract

The importance of labels for a community business is a visual representation of the brand identity and values it wants to convey to the community. Partners said that they had tried to market products outside the village and leave their products in several souvenir shops and minimarkets, but were rejected because they saw that the products offered were still very simple, especially when seen from their packaging, which was still traditional and did not have adequate labels. This made it difficult for their business to develop and be known to the outside market, so their sales were difficult to increase, and accompanied by this, the production process also did not develop. The methods used in this community service activity include lecture methods, practical methods, discussion methods, and, at the end, making a label and packaging design for partners. The results of this activity are maximising the use of technology for MSME partners as a means of introducing their products to a wider market so that partner products are better known in the market and easy to distinguish themselves from competitors who have similar products. This activity is considered very useful, making participants aware of the importance of good product labels and packaging that can support the sustainability of their businesses. After participating in this activity, they were also able to create their own label designs according to the wishes and needs of the products they had.

Abstract

Rendang, a Minangkabau speciality, has been recognised as the world's most delicious food and Indonesia's national dish. However, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) producing rendang in Padang City face obstacles in meeting the commercial sterile food distribution permit standards, especially the calculation of the F0 value (heat sufficiency number). This service activity aims to foster and assist MSME players related to the sterilisation of commercial rendang products with export-level distribution quality by installing an IoT-based data logger on the retort tool to measure the F0 value in real time. The activity involved a pre-workshop, Focus Group Discussion, data logger installation, sterilisation training, and evaluation. It can be concluded that the measurement of the F0 value in the IKABOGA rendang product sterilisation process shows that the optimal sterilisation time is 40 minutes. This 40-minute sterilisation process can be used as a guide for the implementation of sterilisation by IKABOGA and initial data for fulfilling the requirements for a distribution permit but is sufficient to apply for a product distribution permit because it still requires other supporting data. This community service activity is the first step in developing an IoT-based sterilization process to be developed into a smart retort so that it can become an innovative tool that helps all MSMEs in the product sterilization process and meets the requirements for product distribution permits to a national scale.

Abstract

Community service activities were designed to enhance the productivity of breeding cattle through the socialization of breeding cattle cultivation management at the Harapan Sejahtera Farmers Group in Padang City. The methods used included surveys, counseling, discussions, and assistance applying breeding cattle cultivation management. However, the key to enhancing the insight and skills of farmers in implementing cattle breeding management, such as pens and feeding, was the comparative study and a short internship for two days at CV. Andalas Farm, a beef cattle farming business. This practical learning approach provided farmers with firsthand experience and insight into modern maintenance techniques, including pen management and feeding. Innovation at CV. Andalas Farm, which processes sweet corn harvesting waste into silage as a source of green fodder to replace grass, has increased the skills of farmers. The activities increased farmers' knowledge and skills about cattle farming management, especially pen and feed management.

Abstract

Health center Pakan Rabaa in District 50 City faces obstacles in achieving the Minimum Service Standard (SPM) for elderly health, recorded as the second lowest rank out of 11 health centers. Community service initiatives were carried out to empower the elderly and increase the independence of elderly ADLs through health screening activities, elderly gymnastics, and physical and cognitive skills training. Activities involved health centers, integrated healthcare centers, and cadres. The goal was to improve health services and target coverage of SPM for Elderly Health in the Pakan Rabaa Health Center area. Methods involved physical gymnastics, brain gymnastics exercises, and ADL, Mental, and BMI screening. Screening results showed more likely with independent ADL status. The depression scale is standard, while the average BMI is close to mild obesity, but many are under normal conditions. More than 50 seniors participated in gymnastics, creating positive experiences, encouragement, and opportunities to share experiences. ADL and depression screening activities can be continued using the g-form. It is important to regularly schedule gymnastics activities and train in physical and cognitive skills to improve the achievement of screening targets at the health center and SPM for Elderly Health Services in the area.
