Abstract

This study aims to identify the attributes that influence the satisfaction of Cavendish banana farmers and to analyze the level of farmer satisfaction with the role of local government in facilitating market access. The research was conducted in July 2025 in Bajak 2 Village, Merigi Kelindang District, Central Bengkulu Regency, using a census method with 52 farmers as respondents. Data were collected through interviews using a questionnaire based on SERVQUAL dimensions and analyzed using Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) to determine priority attributes for improvement, as well as the Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) to measure satisfaction levels. The results of the IPA analysis indicate that most attributes influence farmer satisfaction, with a CSI value of 30.18%, which places the level of farmer satisfaction in the “dissatisfied” category. This condition is caused by the low reliability of the local government, slow responsiveness to marketing needs, and the lack of adequate physical facilities and market networks. This study offers novelty by integrating IPA and CSI approaches simultaneously to evaluate the role of local government in facilitating market access for horticultural commodities at the village level. Overall, the role of the local government is considered not yet optimal, thus continuous improvements are necessary.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dynamics of gender roles in rice farming management and the challenges of gender roles in rice farming. It uses a mixed methods approach with descriptive quantitative and qualitative analysis. Data analysis is conducted using the Gender Analysis Matrix (GAM), which includes aspects of labor, domestic activities, resources, and socio-cultural factors.The results show that men are still dominant in labor indicators (61.94%), resource indicators (54.52%), and socio-cultural indicators (55.24%), while women have a significant contribution in domestic activities (57.29%). In terms of access and control, women’s roles are still relatively lower than men’s. The study indicates that although women contribute to rice farming, their roles are not balanced with access and control, especially in asset ownership, access to assistance, and involvement in decision-making. The novelty of this research lies in the use of the Gender Analysis Matrix (GAM) approach to examine gender role dynamics in rice farming management. Overall, gender dynamics in rice farming still show inequality, where men are more dominant in production activities and decision-making, while women tend to have a higher workload. The main challenges are related to the limited access and control of women in managing rice farming.

Abstract

Maize (Zea mays L.) is a strategic crop whose productivity is significantly affected by diseases caused by various plant pathogens. This study aimed to inventory and identify pathogens, nematodes, and entomopathogenic fungi associated with maize based on field symptoms, morphological characteristics, and molecular identification, specifically for the fungal pathogens detected. The research was conducted in major maize-producing areas of Rejang Lebong Regency, Bengkulu Province, Indonesia, located at an altitude of 700–900 m above sea level. Samples consisting of leaves, roots, and rhizosphere soil were collected from several maize fields. Field symptoms were observed, followed by pathogen isolation and morphological identification. Entomopathogenic fungi were cultured and purified on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar supplemented with Yeast Extract (SDAY) medium, while soil samples were processed using a modified sieving technique to extract nematodes. The results revealed four major diseases affecting maize, namely downy mildew, common rust, northern leaf blight, and leaf spot, caused by Peronosclerospora maydis, Puccinia sorghi, Exserohilum turcicum, and Cercospora sp., respectively. Six genera of plant-parasitic nematodes were identified, including Meloidogyne sp., Pratylenchus sp., Helicotylenchus sp., Rotylenchus sp., Tylenchus sp., and Nacobbus aberrans, all associated with root damage. Only one species of entomopathogenic fungus, Nomuraea rileyi, was isolated, indicating its potential as a biological control agent against insect pests. This study provides baseline information on the diversity of pests and pathogens associated with maize in Rejang Lebong Regency, which is essential for supporting integrated and sustainable pest and disease management.

Abstract

Red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of the important horticultural commodities in Indonesia that has high economic value and is widely used as a flavoring agent, food industry, and medicine. Red chilies also contain nutrients such as carbohydrates, fiber, phosphorus, and vitamins A, B, C, and K, which are beneficial to the human body. However, their productivity is still relatively low. One of the causes is the excessive use of inorganic fertilizers and cultivation without crop rotation which reduces soil fertility and increases attacks by plant pests so that efforts are needed to increase production through sustainable soil fertility management such as the use of coffee husk compost decomposed with Trichoderma decomposers to increase nutrient availability and improve the physical, chemical, and biological properties of the soil and suppress pathogen growth. This study aims to determine the effect and best dosage of the use of coffee husk compost with various doses of Trichoderma decomposers on the growth and productivity of large red chili plants. This study used a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of seven treatments of coffee husk trichocompost: K0 (control/soil), K1 (soil + 1.5 kg/bed of coffee husk compost without decomposer), K2 (soil + 1.5 kg/bed of coffee husk compost with the addition of 150 g of Trichoderma harzianum during composting), and K3 (soil + 1.5 kg/bed of coffee husk compost with the addition of 450 g of Trichoderma harzianum during composting).

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of water-based environmentally friendly solvents in extracting polyphenol compounds and determine the antioxidant activity of brown seaweed Sargassum cristaefolium. The method used was a quantitative experiment with various types of solvents (aquadest, tap water, and mineral water), temperatures (40°C, 55°C, 70°C), and extraction times (20, 40, 60 minutes). The parameters analyzed included total phenols, total flavonoids, and antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. The results showed that the type of solvent and extraction conditions significantly influenced the release of bioactive compounds. The highest antioxidant activity (79.40%) was obtained from mineral water at 40°C for 60 minutes. The highest phenol content (2.42 mg GAE/g) was also found in mineral water at 70°C, while the highest flavonoid content (4595.42 µg QE/g) was produced by aquadest at 70°C for 60 minutes. In general, increasing extraction temperature and time increases the content of bioactive compounds to a certain limit before thermal degradation occurs. The presence of minerals such as Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺, and HCO₃⁻ in mineral water is thought to increase the stability and solubility of compounds. Thus, water-based solvents have the potential to be a safe and environmentally friendly alternative to organic solvents in the food and healthcare industries.

Abstract

The low adoption rate of the Protani new high-yielding rice variety (HYV) indicates that farmers' decisions are driven not only by technical factors but also by behavioral considerations and risk perceptions. Research on HYV adoption generally relies on conventional socioeconomic approaches and seldom integrates behavioral frameworks and farmer typology segmentation. This study aims to identify farmer typologies using a Two-Step Clustering approach and analyze differences in variables within the Behavioral Reasoning Theory (BRT) framework and demographic characteristics across the identified groups. Employing a quantitative descriptive design, a field survey using a purposive sampling technique was conducted with 51 Protani rice farmers in Bojanegara Village, Purbalingga Regency, Central Java Province, from September to October 2024. Data were analyzed using the Two-Step Clustering algorithm in R-Studio based on BRT psychological factors as indicators, which was subsequently validated through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) visualization and ANOVA testing. The results reveal three distinct adopter typologies: progressive, pragmatic, and skeptical. The BRT variables significantly differentiate the three groups. The progressive group is dominated by older, experienced farmers who are highly receptive to innovation; the pragmatic group exhibits the highest resistance due to comprehensive risk calculations; whereas the skeptical group possesses high adoption intentions but is hindered by farming constraints. Formal education levels show no significant differences across the typologies. This study underscores that agricultural extension and innovation dissemination strategies must be tailored to farmers' behavioral characteristics to enhance the efficacy of HYV adoption.

Abstract

Cavendish banana peel waste has the potential to be developed into a functional food product in the form of sheet jam due to its bioactive compounds such as phenolics and flavonoids. This study aimed to analyze the effect of pectin and agar ratios on the chemical characteristics and microorganisms of Cavendish banana (Musa acuminata) peel sheet jam. A completely randomized design (CRD) with one factor and five treatment levels of pectin : agar ratio was applied, namely P1 (1:0), P2 (2:1), P3 (1:1), P4 (1:2), and P5 (0:1), each replicated three times. Parameters analyzed included antioxidant activity (DPPH method), moisture content (oven method), pH, total acid, and microorganism count (TPC method). Results showed that the hydrocoloid ratio significantly affected antioxidant activity (F = 7.339; p = 0.025) and moisture content (F = 265.83; p = 4.18 × 10⁻¹⁰), but did not significantly affect microorganism count (p = 0.159). pH values ranged from 5.4–5.6 and total acid ranged from 1.28–3.20% across all treatments. Treatment P2 yielded the highest antioxidant activity of 74.61% with a moisture content of 15.46%. Storage duration had a highly significant effect on microbial growth, with the product remaining safe for consumption up to day 2 of storage. The P2 formulation is recommended as the optimal treatment for developing Cavendish banana peel sheet jam as an agroindustrial waste-based functional food.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of adding milkfish bones on the chemical characteristics of an oyster mushroom-based natural flavor enhancer. The research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single factor consisting of five treatment levels: P1 (90:10), P2 (85:15), P3 (80:20), P4 (75:25), and P5 (70:30), with replications. The observed parameters included ash content, protein, calcium, moisture, fat, and glutamic acid. Data were analyzed using ANOVA at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the addition of milkfish bones significantly affected protein, fat, and glutamic acid content, but had no significant effect on moisture and ash content. The highest values of protein (33.33%), fat (6.04%), and glutamic acid (3.74%) were obtained in treatment P5. In addition, calcium content in the selected treatment (P5) reached 868.5 mg/100g. Overall, treatment P5 produced the best chemical characteristics and has potential as a natural flavor enhancer with high nutritional value and strong umami taste.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh persepsi kemudahan penggunaan dan persepsi kegunaan biochar terhadap niat adopsi petani padi. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Kalurahan Banguntapan, Kapanewon Banguntapan, Kabupaten Bantul menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan model Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Sampel penelitian berjumlah 50 petani padi yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner skala Likert dan dianalisis menggunakan regresi linier berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa persepsi kegunaan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap niat adopsi biochar, sedangkan persepsi kemudahan penggunaan tidak berpengaruh secara parsial. Namun demikian, kedua variabel secara simultan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap niat adopsi petani. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa manfaat teknologi menjadi faktor utama dalam mendorong penerimaan biochar sebagai inovasi pertanian berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of farmers’ perceptions of selling prices, production costs, extension support, and information support on patchouli oil sales volume at the farmer level in Porehu District, North Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. This study uses a quantitative approach with an associative method with 95 respondents determined through purposive sampling. Data collection used a Likert scale questionnaire and analysis was performed using multiple linear regression with SPSS. Results showed that partially, selling prices and production costs did not significantly influence patchouli oil sales volume, while extension support and information support had a positive and significant effect. Simultaneously, all variables significantly influenced sales volume (R² = 0.890).
