Abstract

Film, as an entertainment and educational medium, has a unique role in reflecting social reality. Although the film “Nagabonar Jadi 2” explicitly features a variety of social issues, an in-depth understanding of the underlying dynamics and their implications for social development is often not fully articulated. This research chooses a descriptive qualitative approach in abstracting and analyzing the film, using scene and storyline observations and the theoretical framework of social development. This research highlights the absence of social development reflections in Indonesian films as a medium for critical education of society. The analysis shows that the film effectively represents the contestation of fundamental views between traditional values (Nagabonar) and modernity (Bonaga). This contestation is manifested in issues such as land use conflict (family grave), urban-rural divide, access to education, cultural shift, and public service integrity. The discovery that these social issues are more appropriately identified as “contestation of perspectives” is a distinct contribution to the field of social development studies, offering a new perspective in analyzing films as objects of development studies. From a social development perspective, this contestation underscores the urgency of a holistic approach, respect for local wisdom, enhancement of human and social capital, and public-private synergy for an inclusive and equitable development.

Abstract

This article examines the Ecological Jihad carried out by women's organization of Nahdlatul Ulama called Muslimat NU through Sedekah Sampah (Waste Alms) in Bungah District, Gresik Regency. This movement is a concrete effort to address environmental challenges with a religious approach. This movement not only targets waste reduction but also aims to foster ecological awareness based on spiritual values. This study aims to analyse three main aspects of the movement. First, how does Muslimat NU implement religious values in the context of environmental conservation? Second, the role of Muslimat NU is to increase public awareness of the importance of protecting the environment through waste management activities. Third, the real impact of this movement on environmental awareness in Gresik. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with field observation methods, in-depth interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The data is analysed to understand the patterns that emerge in the application of religious values and the public's response to this movement. The results of the study indicate that the concept of ecological jihad applied through the waste alms movement has succeeded in motivating the public to care more about the environment, while also having a positive impact on waste reduction in Bungah district.

Abstract

Health services are one type of service available in Indonesia. The Social Security Organising Agency (BPJS) is an institution established by the Indonesian government to help the community in the health sector, but BPJS is currently unable to fully finance the needs of the community in health services or facilities. Therefore, other alternative financing is needed, one of which is Crowdfunding Kitabisa.com, which has helped the Indonesian people in financing health services. The purpose of this study is to describe the contribution of Crowdfunding Kitabisa.com in health financing and to describe the potential development of crowdfunding. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection using literature review techniques. The results showed that Crowdfunding Kitabisa.com has contributed as a fundraising platform, and this shows its role as an alternative in financing in the health sector. This crowdfunding has the potential to be developed due to limited access to modern health services, high health costs, the growth of technology and internet access, as well as social awareness and community solidarity. The implications of this research for social welfare include crowdfunding as a means of increasing health accessibility, community empowerment, innovation in health financing, and increasing awareness of social solidarity.

Abstract

Despite efforts by the government of Pakistan and the UNHCR to establish formal regulations and educational programs for Afghan refugee children, the results are mixed and unclear. On the one hand, these actions resulted in the enrollment of about 56,000 Afghan students and the placement of some refugee children in public schools. Meanwhile, overall enrollment fell from 55% in 2019-2020 to 18% in 2022-2023, demonstrating that, while legal and strategic frameworks exist, operational gaps, resource constraints, and cultural barriers continue to inhibit their effectiveness. This study aims to find out what the Pakistan’s government and UNHCR do within their legal frameworks and techniques to help Afghan refugees continue their education, and why the program is problematic. This research consider the Pakistan government's and UNHCR's legislative frameworks for expanding educational access for Afghan refugees and the implementation of these initiatives. The investigation examines UNHCR and government records to understand their service delivery goals. Economic concerns, school overcrowding, unequal opportunities for genders, and a lack of resources prevent children from achieving optimal growth. This study demonstrates that high-quality interventions, coordinated planning at all levels, and ongoing support enable Afghan refugees to receive a good education in their host nation. The study proposes improving education and making refugees feel more welcome in the Pakistani educational society.

Abstract

Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), has shown a strong commitment to eliminating the three major sins in education sexual violence, bullying, and intolerance as stipulated in Regulation No. 46 of 2023. This policy has inspired various initiatives within educational institutions, one of which is the establishment of the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS) at SMAN 2 Semarang. This task force was formed in response to the increasing number of social deviance cases in schools, with data indicating 115 cases of sexual violence, 61 cases of bullying, and 24 cases of intolerance. This study aims to describe and analyze the capacity building of the Satgas PPKS in carrying out its role as a mitigation agent based on Pancasila values. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and training sessions conducted by a community service team from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). The findings show that Pancasila values serve as a crucial foundation for shaping students’ character to uphold tolerance, justice, and humanity. In this context, UNNES, as a Teacher Training Institution (LPTK), plays an active role in guiding and strengthening the capacity of the Satgas PPKS. Through this initiative, a strategic collaboration is built to create a safe, inclusive, and Pancasila-oriented school ecosystem

Abstract

The health emergency situation has brought about various negative impacts, one of which is the economic shock experienced by female workers during the pandemic. According to the National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) conducted in February 2020, 61.35% of female workers were employed in the informal sector. Women working in the informal sector often face greater challenges, such as the lack of social protection, income insecurity, and limited access to financial and social support. This means that 6 out of 10 working women were significantly affected due to their employment in the informal sector. Efficiency measures in informal enterprises had a direct impact on female workers, resulting in many of them being severely affected by the economic crisis caused by the pandemic. Moreover, many of these women carry double responsibilities, both in domestic roles and as breadwinners, which exacerbates their vulnerability amid ongoing economic uncertainty. This study employs a qualitative method through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) conducted in Ketitang Village, Boyolali Regency. The village hosts four medium and large-scale companies employing 1,150 workers, 25 small industries with 168 workers, 25 home industries with 50 workers, and 37 food stalls employing 71 workers. The objective of this study is to explore the resilience strategies adopted by informal female workers in Ketitang, Nogosari. The resilience strategies of informal female workers are analyzed using Grottberg’s conceptual framework of “I am, I can, I have.” The findings of this study reveal that strong family and community support, access to social security, and a belief in economic recovery are the main sources of their resilience. Cooperation with partners and empathy among fellow workers also play a crucial role in strengthening their economic resilience.

Abstract

The departure of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) affects the care of the children left behind, prompting extended families to often take over the role of parents. This study aims to analyze the role of extended families in caring for the children of PMIs, focusing on aspects of socialization, daily caregiving, socio-psychological support, education, and financial management. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations with five informants, including PMI children, extended family caregivers, PMIs, and school teachers. The findings indicate that the extended family serves as a substitute secure base, supporting the children’s growth and development through the development of social skills, fulfillment of basic needs, educational assistance, and assurance of financial sustainability. In addition, the extended family plays a role in maintaining the child’s emotional connection with their parents through long-distance communication, although limited resources and consumerist spending patterns in some families remain challenges. This study provides recommendations for extended families, the government, and educational institutions to strengthen the caregiving capacity for PMI children through training, psychosocial assistance, and sustainable financial management.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the impact of coal mining on the social, economic, and environmental conditions of communities in Sangatta District, East Kutai Regency. Mining, as one of the key sectors driving regional economic development, also brings about various issues related to social change, economic inequality, and environmental degradation. The research method employed is a survey with a quantitative approach, namely the collection of measurable numerical data that can be statistically analyzed through questionnaires. The study involved 30 respondents determined by purposive sampling, that is, deliberate selection based on specific criteria namely, residents living around the mining area who are considered to be most affected. The results show that 66.67% of respondents were in the age range of 19-31 years, with the majority stating that they benefited economically from increased job opportunities (76.67%), followed by improvements in local businesses (13.33%) and infrastructure development (6.67%). In terms of social aspects, most respondents (46.67%) assessed that the level of crime or social problems remained the same, although 6.67% perceived an increase. Meanwhile, from the perspective of regional economy, 70% of respondents noted a significant rise in land and property prices, ranging from 50-100% or even higher. The environmental impacts reported by the community include air pollution, land degradation, and disruption of water resources. This indicates that although mining provides economic contributions to most residents, there are also consequences in the form of social inequality and environmental pressures. Therefore, more sustainable mining management is needed, taking into account the balance between economic benefits, social stability, and environmental sustainability.
