Abstract

The majority of Indonesian people consume rice as a staple food. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (2022), rice production in West Sumatra reached 1,482,996.01 tons in 2019 and continued to decline until 2021, total rice production in West Sumatra was only 1,317,209.38 tons. This is inversely proportional to the population of West Sumatra which increases every year, so efforts need to be made to increase rice production. One of them is the biopriming technique to increase seed vigor. Priming is hydration carried out slowly which aims to ensure that the seed's water potential reaches balance and activates metabolism in the seed before the seed germinates. One of them is biopriming, which is a seed priming technique using biological agents in the form of beneficial microorganisms. Several factors influence the success of the priming technique, one of which is the soaking time. The right soaking time provides a deeper opportunity to absorb water to stimulate the seeds to germinate. This research aims to determine the effect of soaking time on biopriming of the local West Sumatran rice variety "Anak Daro" using Bacillus subtilis and Trichoderma harzianum on the germination of the Anak Daro rice variety. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) factorial pattern with 2 factors with 3 replications. Factor A is a biopriming agent, namely A1 (no microbes), A2 (Bacillus subtilis), and A3 (Trichoderma harzianum). Factor B is the length of soaking, namely B1 (24 hours), B2 (48 hours), and B3 (72 hours). The results showed that Bacillus subtilis and Trichoderma harzianum had a significant effect on maximum growth potential and germination, while soaking time had a significant effect on maximum growth potential and vigor index.

Abstract

Dyes have played an important role in human life, therefore the production of dyes has continued to increase from the past until now. The use of synthetic chemical dyes has apparently caused various health and environmental problems, this is what has triggered the return to use of natural dyes. Through advances in science and technology, research related to the extraction of natural dyes in Indonesia was carried out until 31 scientific reports were found that studied this matter in the last ten years. Literature studies with secondary data have summarized the novelty of research related to the extraction of natural dyes from plants, where currently flower objects are of great interest for observational studies. Various types of flowers have potential pigments that can be converted into natural dyes. The maceration extraction method is still the choice for extracting plant bioactive substances. Recently a study on the extraction of dyes from fruit peel waste was also carried out. It is hoped that the development of information related to the extraction of natural dyes will have more opportunities to be applied in various aspects.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to increase the motivation and science process skills of second semester biology students in the Plant Morphology course using the Environmental Exploration (JAS) method. The background to this research is the lack of direct use of learning resources from nature by students, learning resources usually come from books, direct materials and learning media provided by course lecturers. The subjects in this research were biology students at the Mandalika Education University (UNDIKMA) second semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The type of research used is PTK using questionnaire instruments and observation sheets. The results of research on the implementation of the use of environmental exploration methods can increase students' learning motivation in cycle II, showing the highest score, namely 168 and the lowest score, namely 129, with an average score of 148.34 from a total sample of 25 students. This indicates an increase in students' learning motivation and can improve students' science process skills in plant morphology courses in the 2023/2024 academic year.

Abstract

Orthohantavirus is an RNA virus that causes Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) and Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS). Humans can become infected with orthohantaviruses by inhaling virus particles from the urine, saliva, and feces of infective reservoir hosts. Small mammals from the orders Rodensia, Eulipotyphla, and Chiroptera are the main reservoirs of orthohantaviruses. This study aims to detect and calculate the incidence of orthohantavirus in reservoir hosts in Semarang City. The research was conducted descriptively analytically with a cross-sectional study design. The research population was all mice and shrews in the research location (Gayamsari and Tlogosari subdistricts), and the samples were caught mice and shrews (84). The research was carried out in May-September 2023. Orthohantavirus detection was carried out using the Nested PCR test (pre denaturation, denaturation, annealing and extension). A total of 84 individuals were captured, consisting of Rattus novergicus, Rattus tanezumi and Suncus murinus. Orthohantavirus in this study was successfully detected in Rattus norvegicus. The results of the study showed that the incidence of orthohantavirus in Gayamsari Village was (11.1%), Tlogosari Village (2.78%), and the overall total was (2.38%). It is necessary to control mice to prevent transmission of orthohantavirus.
