Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of brand identity on consumer loyalty at Toko Vivin in Gunungsitoli City. The sample in this study consisted of 90 consumers who had made purchases more than once at Toko Vivin within the past year. The research method used is quantitative, with data analysis performed using simple linear regression. The results of the study indicate that the hypothesis test yielded a t-value of 0.830 with a significance value of 0.000. With a significance threshold of 0.05 and a t-table value of 0.2072, it shows that t-count > t-table (0.830 > 0.2072), which means the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that brand identity has an influence on consumer loyalty at Toko Vivin in Gunungsitoli City. In the coefficient of determination (R Square) test, a value of 0.690 was obtained. When converted using the formula KD = r² × 100%, the result is 69%. This means that brand identity contributes 69% to the increase in consumer loyalty, while the remaining 31% is influenced by other variables not included in this research model, such as price, product quality, service, or other factors that may affect consumer loyalty.

Abstract

This research was conducted at PT Tiki Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir Gunungsitoli City branch with the aim of analyzing the implementation of work discipline and strategies undertaken to improve employee performance at PT Tiki Jalur Nugraha Ekakurir Gunungsitoli City. This study used a qualitative research method by interviewing 5 informants, namely the branch manager, package couriers and SCO JNE Express Gunungsitoli City branch. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of work discipline at PT Tiki Gunungsitoli is implemented through work hour arrangements, punctuality, and monitoring with MyOrion and SCA. The implementation is flexible to adjust to field conditions. Couriers usually start at 09.00, many arrive earlier, and go home depending on the number of packages. Obstacles are usually due to external factors such as weather, damaged roads, long distances, vehicle damage, incomplete addresses, unavailable customers, late sorting, and weak internet connections. The impact is small if only 1-2 couriers are involved, but can disrupt operations and customer satisfaction when they are simultaneously involved. The strategy to improve discipline is carried out firmly but humanely, with gradual sanctions and coaching through briefings, communication, and meetings. The courier assessed the sanctions as fair, but suggested rewards for discipline, time management training, and better work facilities. Discipline can be improved through rules, appreciation, training, and supporting facilities.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of promotion and service quality on customer satisfaction at PT. Narindo Solusi Komunikasi in Gunungsitoli City. The research method used in this study is Quantitative Research Method. The t-test results for the Promotion variable show a calculated t-value of 6.949 > t-table of 1.7032, with a significance level of 0.000. Because the significance value is less than 0.05, it can be concluded that the promotion variable has a significant effect on customer satisfaction. The Service Quality variable shows a calculated t-value of -0.182 < t-table of 1.7032, with a significance level of 0.857. This value is well above the 0.05 threshold, so it can be concluded that service quality does not have a significant effect on customer satisfaction. Based on the results of the regression analysis, the R Square (R²) value was 0.642. This value indicates that 64.2% of the variation in the Customer Satisfaction variable can be explained by two independent variables: Promotion and Service Quality.

Abstract

This research aimed to improve students’ ability in writing recount texts through the implementation of the Drill Method. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) consisting of two cycles, each involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants of this research were 33 tenth-grade students at the senior high school level. Data were collected through writing tests, namely pre-test, Post-test I, and Post-test II, as well as classroom observations. Quantitative data were analyzed by calculating the students’ mean scores based on the analytic scoring rubric adapted from H.Douglas Brown, (2001), which uses a scale of 1–25 covering five aspects of writing. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ writing ability after the implementation of the Drill Method. The pre-test results showed that students’ initial writing ability was still low, with a mean score of 11.00. After the implementation of the Drill Method in Cycle I, the mean score increased to 15.55. Further improvement was achieved in Cycle II, in which the mean score increased to 18.58. These results indicate that systematic and repeated drilling activities effectively improved students’ mastery of recount text structure and the use of simple past tense. In conclusion, the Drill Method proved to be effective in improving students’ ability to write recount texts and can be considered an alternative teaching strategy in writing instruction.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the types of translation difficulties faced by eleventh-grade students in translating English narrative texts into Indonesian and to identify the factors causing these difficulties. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, using translation sheets and interview transcripts as the primary data sources. The findings revealed that students experienced three main types of difficulties: lexical, grammatical, and semantic, with lexical difficulties being the most dominant (42.5%), followed by grammatical (32.5%) and semantic difficulties (25%). The factors causing these difficulties were classified into linguistic factors, including limited vocabulary, grammar and sentence structure problems, lack of contextual understanding, and reliance on literal translation, as well as non-linguistic factors such as fear of making mistakes, low self-confidence, and lack of practice. The study concluded that both linguistic competence and psychological factors significantly influenced students’ translation performance, suggesting that improvement in vocabulary, grammar mastery, contextual understanding, and learning support is essential to enhance students’ translation skills. Keywords: Translation difficulties; English narrative texts, lexical, grammatical, semantic, linguistic and non-linguistic factors.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the translation strategies used by students in translating English narrative texts into Indonesian and to identify the reasons behind their choices. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method, using translation sheets and interviews as data sources. The findings revealed that students applied all seven strategies proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet, namely borrowing, calque, literal translation, transposition, modulation, equivalence, and adaptation. Among these strategies, literal translation was the most dominant (53.75%), followed by modulation (15.00%) and transposition (11.25%), while borrowing (7.50%), calque (5.00%), equivalence (3.75%), and adaptation (3.75%) were used less frequently. The dominance of literal translation indicates that students tend to rely on direct translation due to similarities in sentence structure between English and Indonesian and their preference for simple techniques. The study also found that students’ strategy choices were influenced by linguistic factors, such as limited vocabulary, grammatical difficulties, and lack of contextual understanding, as well as non-linguistic factors, including low confidence and fear of making mistakes. It can be concluded that students still depend on basic translation strategies, suggesting the need for more practice and guidance to improve their translation competence in producing more natural and contextually appropriate translations.grammar mastery, contextual understanding, and learning support is essential to enhance students’ translation skills.

Abstract

This study aims to examine Jetro Manalu's alto saxophone playing technique and analyze its application in performing repertoire at traditional Batak Toba wedding ceremonies in Sidikalang. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection methods through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research results show that before performing music, Jetro Manalu focuses on two main aspects: instrumentation and instrumentalist. Instrumentation includes warm-up exercises, long tones, scales, and mouthpiece, reed, and tuning checks to achieve optimal and clear sound quality. Meanwhile, the instrumental aspect is related to mastery of tempo, dynamics, and expression in playing. In addition, this study found a process of adapting the sulim voicing technique in the Toba Batak music tradition into saxophone playing, especially when performing the Gondang Si Bunga Ri repertoire. The adaptations include three main techniques: mangarutu, mandila-dilai, and manganak-anaki. These three techniques contribute to shaping the gondang melody, enriching its musical articulation, and providing a saxophone sound that reflects the regional nuances of the Toba Batak.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept and the impact of sequencer usage in worship music arrangement at Gereja Bethel Indonesia Miracle Medan. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the sequencer plays a significant role in maintaining tempo stability, enriching musical arrangements through sound layering, and supporting the management of dynamics and song transitions. The production process includes song selection, tempo determination, click track creation, addition of digital instruments, and structuring of the song within a digital audio environment. However, its use is not applied to all songs, particularly in sections that require flexibility and improvisation. Overall, the use of a sequencer contributes positively to musical quality and the creativity of the music team, although it also presents technical challenges and requires adaptation in its implementation.

Abstract

This study examines the presentation of singing techniques in the song No’ufabu’u composed by Vian Waruwu within the context of a recital performance. The purpose of this research is to analyze the application of vocal techniques and interpretative approaches used in performing the song. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, utilizing observation, documentation, and reflective analysis of the author’s performative experience during the rehearsal process and the recital performance. The findings indicate that the performance of No’ufabu’u involves the application of various techniques, including both musical and vocal elements. The musical techniques encompass dynamics, tempo, legato, and staccato, while the vocal techniques include phrasing, breathing, and posture. These techniques are interconnected in supporting both the technical and expressive quality of the performance. Furthermore, the study identifies several challenges encountered during the performance process, particularly in breath control when singing high notes in measures 55–56, which require optimal respiratory management. The song No’ufabu’u is presented in a solo vocal format accompanied by a band ensemble consisting of electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, and piano. The success of the performance is not solely determined by the mastery of vocal techniques but also by physical readiness, the ability to maintain vocal quality, and the management of the performer’s health condition. This study is expected to contribute to the development of vocal technique studies, particularly in the presentation of regional songs within the context of musical performance.
