Abstract

The development of digital communication technology has fundamentally changed the global broadcasting system, which was previously linear and territorial, into an interactive and cross-border communication space. The viral phenomenon of news about damaged roads in Lampung is a case study that illustrates how local issues can penetrate the global space through digital network mechanisms. This study aims to analyze the transformation of the broadcasting system in the digital era using the Media Convergence theory (Jenkins, 2006) and the Geo-Cybernetic paradigm (Puspitasari, 2022) as theoretical frameworks. Convergence theory explains how old and new media interact within the digital communication ecosystem, while the geo-cybernetic approach highlights the interconnectedness between geographical and cybernetic spaces in the global circulation of information. The method used was descriptive qualitative with a literature study approach, which included analysis of Law Number 32 of 2002 concerning Broadcasting, academic articles, and online media data related to the virality of Lampung news. The results of the study show that the digital broadcasting system works adaptively and decentralistically, where social media algorithms create a feedback loop mechanism that expands the reach of information without institutional control. This shows that broadcasting regulations in Indonesia are still limited to frequency-based broadcasting, so they are not yet able to accommodate the dynamics of global digital communication. Thus, a new regulatory paradigm is needed that integrates algorithmic ethics, digital literacy, and participatory governance within a geo-cybernetic framework.

Abstract

This study examines the translation techniques and orientation applied by fifth-semester students of the English Education Study Program at HKBP Nommensen University in translating the narrative text The Legend of Lake Toba from English into Indonesian. Using a descriptive qualitative design supported by quantitative data, the study analyzed 24 students’ translations based on Molina and Albir’s (2002) translation techniques and Nida’s (1964) theory of formal and dynamic equivalence, following Miles and Huberman’s (1994) interactive model. The findings reveal ten translation techniques with 2,016 total occurrences. Literal Translation was dominant (65.63%), followed by Modulation (19.84%) and Amplification (8.09%), while other techniques appeared in minimal percentages. The predominance of Literal Translation indicates a strong source-oriented approach, particularly formal equivalence. Overall, students tend to prioritize structural accuracy over communicative naturalness, suggesting the need to strengthen their understanding of translation orientation and the balanced application of translation techniques in narrative texts.

Abstract

This research investigates the use of illocutionary speech acts in Prabowo Subianto’s speech at the United Nations, aiming to identify the types of illocutionary acts and their functions in political discourse. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach grounded in pragmatic theory, focusing on the classification of speech acts based on Searle’s framework: representative, directive, commissive, expressive, and declarative. The data were collected from the speech transcript and analyzed through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that representative acts dominate the speech 50%, indicating the speaker’s emphasis on conveying facts, beliefs, and social or humanitarian realities. Directive acts account for approximately 23,08%, reflecting efforts to persuade and motivate the audience to take collective action. Commissive acts represent 19,23% of the utterances, demonstrating commitments and promises, particularly concerning Indonesia’s contributions to global peacekeeping and international development. Expressive acts make up around 7,69%, showing emotional engagement and moral concern, while declarative acts are absent, suggesting a focus on persuasion and ethical appeal rather than formal institutional action. The study concludes that Prabowo Subianto’s speech effectively combines informative, persuasive, and ethical strategies, with a strong emphasis on representative and directive illocutionary acts to inform, inspire, and mobilize the international audience. This research contributes to the understanding of pragmatic functions in political discourse and provides insights for speakers, educators, and researchers in applying illocutionary theory to real-world communication. In conclusion, the dominance of representative acts, supported by directive and commissive acts, demonstrates that Prabowo Subianto’s speech functions mainly as a diplomatic and persuasive political discourse aimed at informing, influencing, and fostering international cooperation. This study contributes to the field of pragmatics by providing insight into the use of illocutionary speech acts in political speeches delivered at international forums.

Abstract

The dominance of digital platforms in the modern economy poses new challenges for the enforcement of competition law, particularly in relation to the abuse of dominant position. The practices of Google LLC, specifically through the mandatory use of Google Play Billing (GPB) in the distribution of digital applications in Indonesia, have been alleged to restrict the choices of developers and consumers and to create barriers to entry for competitors. This study employs a normative juridical method, utilizing statutory approaches, decisions of the Komisi Pengawas Persaingan Usaha (KPPU), and economic analysis of competition. The findings indicate that the GPB policy reflects an abuse of dominant position through the imposition of unilateral trading conditions and vertical integration within Google’s digital ecosystem. Decision No. 03/KPPU-I/2024 issued by the KPPU, which imposed administrative fines and mandated the opening of alternative payment methods, constitutes an important step toward restoring competitive market structures. However, the effectiveness of such corrective measures remains contingent upon continuous regulatory oversight. This study underscores the importance of incorporating economic approaches into competition law to address the dominance of global digital platforms and to safeguard the sustainability of the national creative industry.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has led to an increase in smartphone use among students. However, uncontrolled smartphone use can affect students' behavior patterns in their daily lives and in their learning activities at school. Previous studies have focused more on smartphone use in general, so more specific studies are needed on the effect of smartphone use intensity on student behavior patterns in the school environment. This study aims to determine the effect of smartphone usage intensity on student behavior patterns at SMAN 7 Medan. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The population in this study was all 360 students in grade XI at SMAN 7 Medan in the 2026/2027 academic year. A sample of 80 students was taken using cluster sampling. The data collection instrument used a questionnaire with a Likert scale that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was performed through normality tests, linearity tests, and simple linear regression analysis using SPSS version 26. The results showed that there was a significant effect between the intensity of smartphone use and student behavior patterns. This is evidenced by a t-value of 5.977, which is greater than the t-table value of 1.991 (5.977 > 1.991) with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. The F-test results also show The F-value is 35.727 with a significance of 0.000 < 0.05, so the regression model is significant. The coefficient of determination (R Square) value of 0.314 shows that 31.4% of the variation in student behavior patterns is influenced by the intensity of smartphone use, while 68.6% is influenced by other factors outside the scope of this study.

Abstract

In the Osseda Faolala Nias Women's Consumer Cooperative, researchers found that the existence of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) products produced has not been able to compete optimally in the local market. The promotional strategy implemented by Osseda Faolala Nias Cooperative is still not maximized and has not been able to reach the market widely and effectively. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of promotion on Purchasing Decisions of VCO Products, data collection techniques by means of observation, and distributing questionnaires (questionnaires) to employee and customer respondents as many as 75 people. While testing the data analysis using validity test, reliability test, correlation coefficient analysis, coefficient of determination, and hypothesis testing. In this study using quantitative research with data calculations using SPSS to obtain accurate values. The results of this study, the t test of variable X promotion is 5.124 with a significance level of 5%, the t table is 0.67787. It is known that the Sig value = 0.000 <0.05. Then according to the interpretation: If the Sig value <0.05 or t count> t table then there is an influence between variable X on variable Y, on the contrary, if the Sig value> 0.05 or t count < t table then there is no influence between variable X on variable Y. So it can be concluded that the influence of promotion is positive and significant on Purchasing Decisions. In the results of the calculation of the coefficient of determination (R-Square) of the promotion on performance, it can be concluded that the amount of influence of the Promotion on Purchasing Decisions is 92,7%. For 7,3% influenced by other factors not discussed in this study
