LADU: Journal of Languages & Education provides a forum for discussion of current topics and issues in language and literacy that have a direct influence on thinking and practice in education. Articles draw important and well-communicated implications of their subject matter for one or more of the following: policy, curriculum, pedagogy or evaluation in education. Articles on all aspects of language education are welcome in the dominant language of the country, society, or the education system concerned. This includes mother tongue, second and foreign language education, issues related to immersion education, content-based language teaching, CLIL, bi / multilingual, and teaching media.

Background: Textbooks are one of the learning media used by elementary school students. Textbooks function to support teachers in the learning process and become a source of knowledge for students in following the learning process. Books as teaching materials are books that contain various subject matter produced by an author based on the applicable curriculum and serve as guidelines for teachers and students in the learning process. Purpose: This study focuses on the study to describe the level of readability of teaching materials adapted to children's cognition. Design and methods: The method used is a qualitative method with data analysis of readability text on webfx . The data used as a source in this study is in the form of text contained in teaching materials for English lessons for grades 2 and 6.. Results: Based on the results of the readability text on webfx , only a book with the title Knowing Kinds of Animals Using the Game "Card Hunting" is intended for grade 4 according to with the level of child cognition intended for grade 2, the age range of 8-9 years shows conformity, meaning that it is easy to understand. With an average readability of about 82 out of 100%. That textbook Easy to understand by 8 to 9 years old. Because one of the characteristics of a good textbook can be analyzed from the use of its structure and linguistic symbols. This means that all the information contained in the text book can be easily understood by readers or children at their age.

Background: Fiction text is one of the genres of literary works containing fictional story elements created by the author’s imagination. Fiction is believed to be a reading that adds knowledge, insight, enlightens the soul of the reader, and as an effort to instill values, especially the value of educational character to students. Purpose: This study aims to determine the value of educational characters in fiction stories. Design and methods: This research was conducted using a qualitative approach to content analysis methods or content analysis with descriptive analysis techniques. The source of the data used is the document in the form of a grade 3 thematic book on the chapter of loving plants and animals. Results: The results of the study revealed that in the text of fiction in the thematic book grade 3 theme 2 elementary school there are character values of faith, fear of God Almighty with elements of personal morals, and character values of mutual cooperation with elements of caring and sharing. Meanwhile, the character values that have not yet emerged are global diversity, independence, critical reasoning, and creativity.

Background: Compound word is a word that include of two elements (a root/a word/a phrase and a root/a word) formed a new word and new meaning. Compounding is very important word formation process to know, especially in learning morphology in linguistics where students are required to learn the origin of the word formed. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out the types and the meanings of compound words refers to theory of Plag, then to know the types of compound words mostly found in articles. Design and methods: Method of this study used descriptive qualitative research. To collect the data, the writer used documentation technique. From four types of compound, nominal compound is often appearing, because nominal compound is compound words that indicate and refer to the single noun (person, thing, animals, etc.). Results: This result also shows that the compound words not only create new word but also create new meaning. It can use to study about word formation especially in compounding.

Background: Cultural problem commonly arising in translation is related to the cultural differences between the two languages involved. However, deciding what ideology should be used in the translation process is complicated. Purpose: This paper aims to give the explanation to the readers about the type and dominant ideology of translation in the article of www.Berita2Bahasa.com. Design and methods: To answer the purpose, this study uses the descriptive method to analyze those articles. The data were gathered based on news from May 29 – June 3, 2017. To analyze the data, first step is deciding the right topic, writer chooses the article. The writer also prepares the theories to support the analysis Results: This study revealed that in each article of www.Berita2Bahasa.com, the translator uses 2 type ideology of translation, those are Domestication and Foreignization Ideology. Most of articles is dominantly used domestication Ideology.

Background: Omar and Hana animated series songs can have different meanings; they can be represented. Such meanings are related to habluminallah, habluminannas, the relationship with knowledge, the relationship with animals, the relationship with plants and the relationship with the environment. Purpose: This study aims to determine the representation of the theme of Islamic children's songs in the animated series Omar and Hana. Design and methods: This research was carried out using a qualitative approach to content analysis methods with data collection techniques in the form of documents. The data was obtained from the video content and lyrics of the animated series Omar & Hana on the YouTube application of the Omar and Hana channel accounts for Islamic Kindergartens. Results: The results of this study reveal the representation of the theme of Omar and Hana's Islamic children's songs which are categorized into 6 parts, namely habluminallah consisting of (7 song titles), habluminannas (27 song titles), relationship with knowledge (1 song title) relationship with animals (2 titles). song), relationship with plants (1 song title) and relationship with environment (2 song titles).

Background: It’s very important to learn about morphology because morphology is the study of word and sub-discipline of linguistics that study word, structure and form which has components such as lexical categories. This process can reduce ambiguity during the process of correcting the words in sentences. Purpose: This study investigated the lexical categories in the song lyrics of Ed Sheeran’s album “Divide” entitle castle on the hills. Design and methods: This study used a qualitative method. Process of collecting data used to identify lyric that has lexical categories. The researcher used some of the lyrics of Ed Sheeran’s album as the data source. Background: This paper analyzes and explains the morphological phenomena of suppletion and word compounding in a short story of Bangler. Purpose: This study is to find out what suppletion and types of word compounding are contained in the story. Design and methods: With qualitative methods, the authors carry out this research by relying on references from books, scientific articles and documents that are still related to the research topic. Results: This study, from the analysis, revealed 7 suppletions and 4 word-compounding.

Background: Writing as medium of communications has become the pivotal accomplishments of language learning objectives. It still becomes the challenging part especially for learners who come from non-English speaking country. Their hindrances to elaborate the sentences, lack vocabularies and use the right words in their essay make the essay difficult to understand. Purpose: Therefore, the significance of the research is to identify the readability level of student’s essay written by grade eight learners under Cambridge curriculum. Design and methods: This readability is to define which level of readers is suitable to read the text and who will understand it. Then, one of the elements in analyzing the level of readability is the number of complex words the texts. Therefore, there are about 13 students’ essays were examined using Flesh-Kincaid Ease Formula and SMOG index. Results: The result found out the they have diverse readability level in between 7th grade to college level. By these results as well, it appears the number of complex words used in their essay which then being described of what kinds of complex sentences used in their essays.

Background: Morphology, defined as the internal structure of words, has always played an important role in linguistic typology, and it is with the morphological classification of languages into fusional, agglutinative, and isolation This paper will take one language as an example or object that is Indonesian language, and analysis the morphological typology characteristics in the Indonesian language. Purpose: This research is to find out the all characteristic of the morphology typology and analysis Indonesian language based on the agglutinative language because Indonesian language has same type with agglutinative language. Design and methods: This paper using descriptive qualitative method. The author analysis all of morphology typology branch especially agglutinative. To support analysis, the author using theory from other journal to strength the result of analysis. Results: The result show the Indonesian language is included to agglutinative language based on the analysis.

Background: English subjects at the SD/MI level emphasize the introduction of vocabulary as a foundation or basis in learning English. English ability can be seen from the wealth of vocabulary that a person has. One of the creative efforts in making learning interesting is using media flash cards. Purpose: This study aims to determine the application of flashcards media about numbers in English in grade 1C at SDITA EL MAMUR. Design and methods: The researcher collected data using a qualitative approach, the type of research was descriptive narrative, and the data collection technique was interviews with informants, namely the homeroom teacher of class 1C. at SDITA EL MAMUR. Results: The results of this study indicate that the use of flashcard media can assist students in pronouncing vocabulary numbers in English because the use of flashcard media is easy to understand and attractive to students.
