Abstract

Background: Interest in reading can be interpreted as a desire to encourage someone to read books available in the library. Purpose: The aims of this research is to find out which types of books are most liked and interested by students. Design and methods: The research was conducted using a descriptive analytical case study, the method used was a mixed method. by using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The data obtained are using documents, observations and interviews. This research was conducted on 55 students in grade 1.A and grade 3A at Aligarh Islamic Elementary School. Results: The result of this study reveals there are 79 books that students like and are interested in. The books that students like the most are books with pictures.

Abstract

Background: A task of a teacher or an educator is to create a pleasant learning atmosphere or situation for students. This situation can be realized by doing fun learning by compiling fun teaching materials as well. Purpose: To overcome these problems, it is deemed necessary to renew the development of appropriate teaching materials. Design and methods: This research method is Research and Development (R&D). This research was conducted at SDN Ciomas 3 Bogor. The developing teaching materials for the English language module uses the research and development method of 4D learning tools which consists of 4 stages, namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. Data analysis techniques in this study used quantitative data and qualitative data. Qualitative data were obtained based on input, suggestions, assessments carried out by two experts, namely material and media experts, English teachers, and students. Then the quantitative data is based on a closed-ended questionnaire that has been compiled to determine the quality of the developed product, namely the English Language Module teaching materials. Results: The results of the product trial design were supervisors, material experts and media experts and the subjects tried 3 teachers and 38 students. the results of this study are the English Language Module for class IV which contains 5 material and has obtained very good quality based on the validation value of the material experts scored 69 or 92% from maximum value of 75, validating media experts with a score of 70 or 93% from a maximum value of 75 assessment by 3 teachers with a total score of 445 or 98.8% from a maximum value of 450, and the actual field trial for students with a total score of 1854 or 97.57% from a maximum value of 1900 with the results explained, the English module teaching materials are very suitable to be used as a supporting book for learning English in Grade IV Elementary School.

Abstract

to the TL. Adding occurs because TL has grammatical category which SL lacks. Omitting occurs because the TL has a grammatical category which exists in the SL. Purpose: This study is conducted to analyze translation shifts in Bilingual book story. Design and methods: This study used qualitative research method in the form of content analysis. Data analysis techniques is the process of organizing and sorting data into the patterns, categories and units of the basic description so that it can be determined the theme and can be formulated working hypothesis as based on the data. Results: there were 15 data that indicated translation shift in this book, and the category shift were dominantly used. Any shift in the process of translation is normal, as long as it does not change the meaning or the message of the text.

Abstract

Background: Students' difficulties in learning Arabic are due to their lack of mastery of Arabic vocabulary and this affects other Arabic language skills. The learning that has been less interactive so far due to the lack of variety of teachers in the use of learning media, improvements can be made by utilizing existing media to assist the learning process Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of the use of animated video media on the Arabic vocabulary mastery of class VIII MTs Asnawiyah. Design and methods: The method used in this study is the quantitative method, the type of experimental research and the research design using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control design. Data collection techniques by means of observation, interviews, documentation and tests, namely pretest and posttest in the experimental class and control class with a total sample of 86 samples. Results: The final results of this study indicate that there is an influence of animated video media on the vocabulary mastery of class VIII students of MTs Asnawiyah, this can be shown from the results of the study which were measured using Mann Whitney and obtained a sig value of 0.000 where a sig value of 0.000 <0.05.

Abstract

Background: The dominant figurative language found in The Little Match Girl short story is pleonasm, metaphor and simile. This study is significance to know the message or meaning that the author wants to convey in his/her work. Purpose: This study aims to identify the kinds of figurative language and finding the dominant of the figurative language that are found in The Little Match Girl short story. Design and methods: This research used descriptive qualitative method. Data in the short story of The Little Match Girl is analyzed using the theory of figurative language. Results: The results of this study show that there 8 kinds of figurative language; 4 data from pleonasm, metaphor and simile, 3 data from symbol, 2 data from personification and hyperbole, and 1 data from paradox and repetition.

Abstract

Background: the method of translation is a way to translate a text based on the purpose of the text or the message which the writer wants to send to the reader. Purpose: This paper aims to identify the translation method which commonly use in The Magic of Thinking Big Book by David J Schwartz. Design and methods: This study uses the descriptive method to analyze this book. The writer finds and get some data and then analyze the data and information by searching internet and library research. Results: This study revealed six translation method in chapter five of The Magic of Thinking Big by David J Schwartz. Those of translation methods are: Literal Translation, Faithful Translation, Adaptation, Free Translation, Idiomatic Translation and Communicative Translation. However, from six methods which the writer finds, there is the most dominant one which the writer finds in that book. It is Free Translation method.

Abstract

Background: Depression and anxiety are complex emotional states in which cognitive evaluations and affective and physiological responses are involved. However, Laney the main character in the movie really made the audience feel emotional when watching. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the types and symptoms of depression and anxiety. Design and methods: In conducting this analysis, the study uses a qualitative description method which means the technique of collecting data or theory from books or journals obtained from internet media sources and analyzing important notes that have been made, and watching movies. Results: This study shows that depression and anxiety are described as a disease that can be experienced by anyone, as a result of the analysis found three types of depression and anxiety and seven symptoms of depression and anxiety in Laney's character, and Laney's illness due to past trauma.

Abstract

Background: The making of errors in second language acquisition, especially in writing, is natural, but the errors should not be ignored and need to be treated properly. Purpose: The purposes of this descriptive research are to identify the types of errors occured in the narrative writing of first-year students at STIE Port Numbay in Jayapura, explain the causes of the errors and the strategies applied to correct them and to prevent them from happening in the future. Design and methods: This research is a descriptive qualitative one that uses the content analysis method. The data were taken from 20 narrative writings about daily activities made by 20 first-year students of STIE Port Numbay in Jayapura who major in Development Economics and took the English 1 course in the Odd Semester of the 2020/2021 Academic Year. Results: The findings revealed that there are 9 types of error occured i.e. omission, addition, misselection, misordering, blending, misformations, misspellings, sentence errors and semantic errors in lexis. The errors are caused by interference of the first language or interlingual, inadequate mastery of the target language rules or intralingual and limited vocabulary. The strategies for the error correction are direct feedback and exposing the target language use by its native speakers so that the learners can compare it with their own L2 use. To prevent the same errors, the instructor can improve the learners' mastery of the target language rules by using creative and varied teaching methods and materials as well as encouraging the learners to develop the habit of reading English texts in order to improve their vocabulary and to obtain input about the use of English in writing. Abstract

Background: Social value is a valuable thing that has to do with the interrelationships and relationships between individuals and other individuals. As social creatures, interaction activities are well adapted and interesting through conventional entertainment media, one of which is cartoon shows. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to find out the social values ​​contained in the "Dudung Is Lost" episode of the Somat Family Cartoon Design and methods: The research method used in this study is a qualitative research with a descriptive qualitative research type. The data analysis applied in this research is using the critical discourse model of Norman Fairclough.. Results: The results of the implementation of this research reveal that there are many social values ​​that can be taken in the Somat Family Cartoon Episode "Dudung Is Lost", including 1) the value of empathy, 2) helping each other, and 3) liking to give advice. These three social values ​​are deliberately included in the Somat Family Cartoon show to provide educational value. Especially when it was disseminated in Indonesia where the majority of the targeted audience were children.

Abstract

Background: Novel is a literary work in the form of prose that discusses a work of imagination about the problems of a person's life or various other characters. One of the novel literary works that is interesting to analyze and study its educational value is the novel9 Summers 10 Autumns Iwan Setyawan's work which tells an interesting and inspiring story that can be a meaningful life lesson, where the value of education is so important that it is applied in everyday life. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to be used as teaching material for teachers in increasing reading interest, literary appreciation, and analyzing literary works and knowing the value of education in them. Design and methods: The research method used is content analysis (Content Analysis) with a qualitative descriptive approach, by describing the data in the form of words. The data collection technique uses a documentation study of the study of novel texts9 summers 10 autumns by Iwan Setiawan. Results: Research results from the novel9 summers 10 autumns have educational values ​​such as the value of truth, the value of goodness, the value of beauty, and the value of changing attitudes or procedures that can be taken for elementary school children and become teaching materials for teachers.
