Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of school-based health education intervention in improving students' knowledge about diabetes. The research subjects were 5th and 6th grade students at SD Negeri No. 106172 Pancur Batu Tuntungan 2, with a total sample size of 47 people. The study used a quantitative descriptive design with a pre-test and post-test approach. Data were collected using a questionnaire covering the definition, symptoms, causes, and prevention of diabetes, and analyzed by descriptive statistics. The results showed a significant increase in the average score of students' knowledge from 63.93 in the pre-test to 85.62 in the post-test. This finding suggests that a school-based health education program can significantly improve students' health literacy. This intervention makes an important contribution in building students' awareness of chronic diseases, particularly diabetes. Although this study has limitations, such as the limited sample size and short duration of the study, the results provide a strong basis for the development of sustainable health education programs at the primary school level. It is recommended that future studies include a wider sample and utilize technology to support more interactive delivery.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the ideas of Ibn Khaldun, particularly his concept of asabiyyah (group solidarity), in the context of political communication and hegemony in Indonesia. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research investigates the relevance of Ibn Khaldun’s theories to the contemporary political dynamics of Indonesia, which are often influenced by social solidarity in the preservation of political power. The research methodology employed is library research, where data is collected from various sources including books, academic journals, and articles that discuss Ibn Khaldun’s political theories and their application in Indonesia. The data analysis technique used is byat analysis, which involves categorizing and interpreting the data to identify similarities and differences in the viewpoints presented. The findings of this study indicate that Ibn Khaldun’s notion of asabiyyah, or group solidarity, offers valuable insights into the patterns of political communication and hegemony in Indonesia. The strength of social solidarity among groups, whether based on religion, ethnicity, or ideology, plays a crucial role in the stability and continuation of political power in the country. The research also reveals that overly dominant political communication within one group can potentially lead to social tensions, aligning with Ibn Khaldun’s view that power based on the domination of a particular group will not endure for long. This theory provides a relevant perspective for understanding identity politics and social dynamics in contemporary Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

Adolescent pregnancy outside of marriage, often termed marriage by accident, is a pressing issue in Indonesia. Cultural norms and social pressures frequently lead pregnant adolescents to enter early marriages, often before they are emotionally or financially prepared. This study explores the lived experiences of adolescent girls who became pregnant outside of marriage and subsequently entered early marriages, focusing on how they perceive their readiness for marital and parental responsibilities. A qualitative phenomenological approach was employed, involving in-depth semi-structured interviews with 12 adolescent girls aged 15–19 in Pematangsiantar and Simalungun, North Sumatra. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s method, supported by NVivo 12 for coding and theme identification. Five major themes emerged: emotional instability and psychological confusion; perceived financial unpreparedness; forced adaptation to adult roles; dependency on parental support; and conflicted hopes for the future. These findings highlight the adolescents’ limited autonomy and unpreparedness in navigating early marriage and motherhood, compounded by social stigma and family expectations. Early marriage resulting from adolescent pregnancy often does not reflect the readiness of the individuals involved. Instead, it reinforces emotional stress, economic dependency, and role conflict. The study underscores the urgent need for adolescent-responsive health services, gender-transformative community programs, and comprehensive.

Abstract

Stunting remains a serious challenge in improving child health in coastal areas, particularly among vulnerable groups such as toddlers. Inadequate intake of protein and micronutrients during the first 1000 days of life can have long-term consequences on children's growth and development, while also widening gender disparities in access to adequate nutrition. This study aims to explore the utilization of local food—specifically rebon shrimp (kecepe)—as an innovative nutritional product accepted by housewives to prevent stunting in toddlers in Rantau Panjang Village, Pantai Labu Subdistrict. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving 30 housewives and the village head as key participants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and focus group discussions (FGDs), and analyzed thematically. The findings show that processing kecepe into tempe-shrimp nuggets provides a highly nutritious, easily prepared, and child-friendly local food solution. This innovation not only improves children's protein intake but also creates opportunities for empowering women as key actors in household food security. In conclusion, child-friendly and mother-accepted local food-based interventions can serve as a sustainable nutrition strategy to address stunting in coastal communities.

Abstract

Gender equality is a key issue in efforts to achieve sustainable and inclusive development throughout the world. This article discusses the challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality in society. The main challenges faced are gaps in access to education, employment and political decisions, as well as gender stereotypes that are deeply rooted in culture and social structures. But amidst these challenges, there is a huge opportunity for positive change. These opportunities include increasing public awareness and support for gender equality, expanding advocacy and support efforts, and developing technology that enables broader access and participation for women. By leveraging dynamic cross-sector collaboration and joint efforts between governments, non-governmental organizations, the private sector and civil society, we can bring about meaningful change towards improving gender equality. Abstract

Adolescent reproductive health is a critical issue for global gender and child health. Despite its significance, the specific challenges adolescent girls face in accessing reproductive health services in low-resource settings have received limited attention. This study explored reproductive health issues, particularly irregular menstrual cycles and syphilis, among adolescents at the Tutun Sehati Clinic in Tanjung Morawa, North Sumatra, Indonesia. A qualitative descriptive approach was used to collect data between January and April 2024 through in-depth interviews, observations, and document reviews. The study emphasized understanding the meanings and processes behind reported cases. The informants included clinic personnel who interacted directly with adolescent patients presenting reproductive health concerns. Clinicians rarely document cases related to adolescent reproductive health. However, some patients have reported menstrual irregularities and syphilis. The clinic managed menstrual issues with examinations and medication while referring syphilis cases to partner hospitals. Contributing factors include limited sexual health knowledge, unprotected sexual behaviors, and stigma surrounding reproductive health. The study concludes that although case numbers appear low, social and cultural barriers may suppress disclosure and care seeking. Early detection, youth-friendly services, and integrated reproductive health education are essential to address adolescent needs. Strengthening community awareness and destigmatizing reproductive issues are crucial for improving outcomes among adolescent girls.

Abstract

Indonesia faces religious intolerance in early childhood education, leading to radicalism. Addressing this issue requires teaching morals and religious moderation, focusing on fairness and justice. The study explores power dynamics in religious moderation at Darul Hanifah kindergarten, utilizing Sundanese philosophy, and proposes a framework for religious moderation learning. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing focused ethnography to gather in-depth data from 60 children, five teachers, and one principal at Darul Hanifah Kindergarten. Data collection included observations during learning activities and semi-structured interviews to assess the implementation of religious values and their impact on fostering tolerance among students of various religious backgrounds. Findings indicate that the integration of Islamic practices in daily activities is complemented by an acknowledgment of diverse belief systems, promoting an environment of mutual respect. Teachers actively facilitate discussions surrounding religious differences, enabling children to engage harmoniously despite their varied backgrounds. Parents' consent plays a crucial role in the participation of children from minority religions in Islamic practices. The study concludes that early instillation of religious moderation and tolerance is vital in shaping a harmonious society. The practices at Darul Hanifah Kindergarten serve as a model for educational institutions aiming to cultivate inclusive and respectful learning environments, demonstrating that a foundation of moderation can mitigate the risks of radicalism from an early age. Further attention is warranted to enhance the participation of minority students without marginalization.
