Abstract

The riots in Ambon in 1999 are studied based on the story of the figure of Job who experienced trials in a barrage in the book of Ayub.  These two different contexts will generate a new perspective to interpret the concept of suffering. In this effort, the author uses qualitative research with a psychoanalytic perspective from Sigmund Freud to show the spirituality of people who experience suffering. This article aims to analyze the psychological condition as well as the behavioral changes resulting from these two events, as well as contribute contextual theology to the sufferer. On the other hand, this article also discusses the study of trauma and theological concerns in trauma issues to understand the people in Ambon who felt the impact of the riots.  This paper is presented with the aim of looking at changes in human behavior in the context of suffering, and helping readers to understand that suffering is not an avoidable thing. One of the keys to the suffering that man must do is to live it with confidence and hope in God.

Abstract

Some of Charismatic ministers tend to give it equal weight and emphasis, arguing from experience. Their books are often filled with claims of healings and deliverances that have occurred, but there is also evidence that these claims are invalid and healings are questionable. There are also those who seem to be healed after prayer but after returning home they become sick again, so healing here is just a suggestion. Therefore, all experiences must be subject to the authority of Scripture, as the Apostle Peter said in comparing the Scriptures with his experience of the transfiguration of Christ: “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation” (2Pet. 1:20). This paper was written using a qualitative method and in the study of literature departs with the assumption that the Bible has its own meaning which is in accordance with texts about healing. The purpose of this paper is to examine the concept of the meaning of healing in the atonement of Jesus Christ through an exegetical study of Isaiah 53:4-6, which clearly implies that by His stripes we are healed referring to eschatology.

Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the argument of na tolu in Batak Toba and Luke 16:19-31 with Robert J. Schreiter's perspective on local theology. Preliminary studies of dalihan na tolu pretext have revealed the fact that there are differences between one person and another due to hula-hula status, dongan tubu or boru. The hula-hula will be highly respected in a ritual, dongan tubu as a friend of the person who holds the ritual, while the boru is the workers in the ritual. In this case, hula-hula becomes the party who really benefits compared to boru. In reviewing this paper, the author will use a qualitative method, namely Robert J. Schreiter's theology-based contextualization efforts on local theology with literature review. This study finds that dalihan na tolu pretext upholds the very high value of kinship, as well as Luke 16:19-31 which emphasizes caring for others. Based on this study, the authors conclude that the teaching of values contained in dalihan na tolu is a message that has theological value and is very important to defend.

Abstract

Jubilee Year Law (Lev. 25:8-55) talks about restoring the live of the poor and oppressed among Israelites by handing over the land and the property they had sold before back to them in the Year of Jubilee. However, for the case of  properties in a walled city (Lev. 25:29-31), the Law is discriminative to non-Levite Israelites because their properties that had been sold or mortgaged could only be redeemed in term of one year otherwise it would become permanent possession of another person and could not be returned in Jubilee Year. The purpose of this article is to reveal the logical reason why Leviticus 25:29-34 is discriminative and its implication to the life of people living in a city today. For this reason, the author uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach. This article concludes that theological view and demographic reality of that particular time were contradictory that produced contradictory treatment of Jubilee Year Law to both non-Levites and Levites having properties in a walled city as a solution to restore the life of the poor living in cities.

Abstract

This article will discuss the theme of Jesus as an exorcist and its significance to His ministry from the perspective of the Synoptic Gospels. The conclusions of this article are: 1) Jesus’ ministry of exorcism is unique because Jesus casts out demons on His own authority and shows the realization of God’s salvation for mankind, 2) the ministry of exorcism must remain an integral part, task, and calling of the church in the world until the end of time, 3) that a person who does not even know Jesus can cast out demons in the name of Jesus (Mark 9:38-41; Luke 9:49-50), where it shows that the name of Jesus has power over demons, and finally, and finally, 4) the implementation of the story of Jesus as an exorcist for the Indonesian context, that the church must be able to restore the existence of exorcism in the midst of cultural diversity, and perhaps even make efforts to contextualize it with culture in terms of exorcism in the name of Jesus. The method used is a literature study on the stories of exorcism by Jesus according to the Synoptic Gospels. This article will conclude that exorcism by Jesus will always be centered on the presence of the Kingdom of God in the world and in the future.

Abstract

This paper seeks to analyze two integration strategies of the Israelites with other nation in two post-exilic priestly traditions, namely Leviticus 19 and Ezra 6. In this integration effort, Leviticus 19 uses the theme of holiness while Ezra 6 uses the theme of purity. This paper will show that although these are mutually supportive and not contradictory terms, there are extreme differences in usage in Leviticus 19 and Ezra 6. This extreme usage leads to a very different nature of integration between Leviticus 19 and Ezra 6. Leviticus 19 promotes ethically-based integration, while Ezra 6 promotes cult-based integration. This fundamental difference at the same time indicates a change or development of thought in the priestly tradition. Using a literature based qualitative research, this paper will show two integration strategies in the two post-exilic priestly tradition.

Abstract

Unhealthy life patterns due to the habit of consuming foods that are high in fat content and lazy habits in exercising often cause problems. One of the problems that often arises from this is hypertension which according to statistical data is a disease that is classified as a silent killer if not treated immediately. Even young age is not a guarantee that someone will not suffer from hypertension. Lack of awareness that the body should be looked after and presented as a holy sacrifice before God is a trigger for an unhealthy lifestyle. Hypertension is a disease that is often found among the congregation in a church, and the church as God's representative must be able to provide pastoral counseling assistance for congregations who suffer from this disease and provide solutions for the congregation and their families.

Abstract

The author raised this article because he saw that the problem of implementing diakonia services at the pangkahingisam celebration was that it was no longer in accordance with the real concept of pangkahingisam, namely providing diakonia services for congregation members who do not have land, and caring for each other. The purpose of this research is to provide an explanation to congregation members that diakonia services during the Pangkahingisam celebration are very important so that all congregation members feel shared prosperity when the harvest arrives, both those who have land and those who do not. The author uses qualitative research methods through literature study, observation and interviews. The data analysis used is data reduction, data presentation and interpretation. The conclusion of this research shows that the implementation of diakonia services at the Pengkahingisam celebration in the Rante Congregation has not been carried out well, so the congregation members need to review the actual concept of pangkahingam, especially in the concept of diakonia services.

Abstract

Difficulty in learning is not uncommon among students. Learning difficulties faced by students at SMP Negeri 2 Tigi Barat, Central Papua, include reading delays that negatifly impact academic achievement. One of the learning difficulties students face is reading difficulties. This paper aims to describe the influence of PAK (Pendidikan Agama Katolik or Catholic Religious Education) teachers in addressing the issue of reading delays. To address this objective, the researcher employed a quantitative method using a questionnaire to determine the level of problem-solving in addressing students' learning difficulties, particularly in the seventh grade. The research results show a significant level with 52 respondents, where the critical value (r tabel) is 0.279, while R Square is 0.738, indicating a moderately significant category. Reading difficulties can be a challenge, but with the right approach, support, and persistence, many students can overcome this issue and improve their reading skills. It is important to remember that every student is a unique individual and may require different amounts of time to overcome their reading difficulties. Therefore, PAK teachers need to provide additional hours or reading lessons to address reading delays, thereby achieving the learning goals of their students. It is advisable to conduct regular reading exercises, ideally every day, to ensure consistency in reading practice. Additionally, involving parents in the student's reading learning process is equally important. They can assist by reading books, discussing stories, and providing moral support.
