Abstract

The intertestamental period is the time that elapsed from the last writings of the Old Testament to the early formulation of Christian Theology (New Testament). The period was marked by a powerful cultural heritage called Hellenism that influenced also the Jews community. One of the most notable effects that Hellenism was to have upon the Jews was the translation of the Hebrew Old Testament into the Greek language (the Septuagint LXX). Philosophy, as the teaching of how to achieve happiness, is one of the element which spread across the Mediteranean during the long period of hellenisation. There is no doubt that the Hellenistic philosophy played a significant role in Jews community before and during the New Testament era. This fact rises a question about the relation of the Hellenistic Philosophy and the formulation of early Christian Theology. This paper tries to show several Hellenistic philosophical thoughts which, in certain sense, resound in the New Testament.

Abstract

The absolute, infinite and holy God wants in the freedom of His love to communicate Himself to the world. This God’s self-communication has a history and subject. All christians believe that Jesus Christ is the supreme self-communication of God which takes place in the Incarnation. This is the central mystery of Christianity: the Triune God is made known to the world in Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity. He is the incarnate Logos of God. The doctrine of the incarnate Logos or the self-communication of God in the Second Person of the Trinity has generated many discussions and debates among Christians and Theologians, especially in the scholastic period: Cur Deus homo? Cur Verbum capax hominis? The answers given are based on biblical revelation (doctrine) or merely on human speculation (theologumenon). Thomas Aquinas is one of the great important figures on this debate.

Abstract

Work is a human activity. As an activity, this work is closely related to human being as the worker. For human being, work, as a transitive activity, is not only as an activity to change the nature, to adjust with his need, but to strengthen and to develop human dignity as image of God, as a cocreator with God.

Abstract

Our Pope Benedict XVI has decided that from June 2008 to June 2009 as the Year of St Paul. This occasion would be a very good time for us every catholic to study the life of the Apostle Paul, to see what he has done, and if its possible to compare our life with him.Paul was keenly aware of himself as a Jew and boasted of his Jewish background (Rom 11:1; Phil 3:5; 2 Cor 11:22). He was educated at the feet of Gamaliel (Acts 22:3). In the experience near to Damascus, by the revelation of the Son by the Father (Gal 1:16), the crucified Lord of glory (1 Cor 2:8) summoned Paul the Pharisee to become an apostle. Paul spoke of his call as an event in which he had been seized by Christ Jesus (Phil 3:12) for preaching the Gospel to Gentiles (1 Cor 9:16; Gal 1:16). His response to that call was his vivid faith in Christ Jesus. He had journey for (“from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum” Rom 15:19) and laboured hard to become not only ‘the apostle of the Gentiles” (Rom 11:13), but an “ambassador for Christ Jesus” (2 Cor 5:20).

Abstract

It is nowadays more realized that faith has not to be put in contrast with cultures. The spirituality of incarnated Logos, increasingly developed today, has opened the eyes of believers to observe that praxis of faith must enter into many kinds of cultures in particular historical places and time. Spirituality dan cultures are reciprocal, not polarized each other. Both are coherent, not two poles pushing each other. The reciprocity between spirituality and cultures is the effect of faith entering into cultures, and it is no other than the effect of incarnated Logos. Spirituality entering into cultures makes cultures spiritualized, and vice versa, spirituality culturalized.

Abstract

Abstract

The labourers’ numbers have increased in line with the development ofindustrialization. But this development did not parallel to the appreciationon the fruit of the labourers’ work. Since long labourers become theobject of work and violence. Church social teaching has anticipatedlabourers’ problem since the year 1891 through the Encyclical letter“Rerum Novarum”. It’s main point is that man is homo laborans. Whenhuman put in on the job, they will fulfil their needs and also form theirself-integrity. Therefore men’s/women’s job must be paid in a properpayment in accordance to the fruit of their work and ability of enterprise.Communion secure and prosperous should be the aim of this movement.Bonum Commune gives assurance to the rights of every human asindividual, and right of every human in the certain social communities. The church social teaching should be the light on the labourers’movement to make a change in an injustice toward bonum commune.

Abstract

The second Vatican Council was not in favor of giving Mother Mary the title “Mother of the Church”, because of its absence in the New Testament and its scarcely using in Church Fathers. And of course this new title could hurt the separated brothers. But when council was going on, Pope Paul VI personally declared Blessed Virgin Mary as Mother of the Church, a truth of faith that has to be accepted and known by all the faithful. The title Mother of the Church substantially refers to Mary’s spiritual motherhood for the whole Christian people, both faithful and pastors. She has manifested and exercised this role since her ‘Yes’ in the mystery of incarnation, her intercession in Cana, and her presence in Calvary. By calling the Blessed Virgin Mary Mother of the Church, Paul VI surpasses the hesitation of council fathers. This declaration, however, is not a dogma, but an ordinary Magisterium of the pope. By this action Paul VI indicates that the exercise of the pontificate Magisterium does not finish in the council.

Abstract
