Abstract

Research with the title "The personality of the main character in the short story Menantu Atau Pembantu by Tiana Amelia: Sigmund Freud's Psychoanalysis Study". This study aims to describe the personality of the main character in the short story Menantu Atau Pembantu by Tiana Amelia with story facts as the basis for analysing id, ego, superego in Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis. The theory used in solving this research problem uses Robert Stanton's story fact theory and Sigmund Freud's personality theory. This type of research uses library research with a descriptive qualitative approach. The data in the research is text in the form of sentence quotations sourced from the short story Menantu Atau Pembantu by Tiana Amelia. The data collection technique uses the reading and note-taking method. The data analysis technique uses the hermeneutic method with analysis steps through data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results of this study show that through the facts of the story in the short story, there is a forward plot that describes the personality of the main character with other characters who support the course of the story. The personality of the character described is also motivated by time, place, and socio-cultural background. The results of the analysis of the personality structure according to Sigmund Freud on the main character named Jesi describe the form of id or Jesi's desire is very large, including the desire to have a mother-in-law who is kind and affectionate to her and does not live in one house with her mother-in-law, but the whole id is not all realised by the ego because it can be controlled by the superego. Among the three personality structures, the superego aspect dominates Jesi. Superego is able to postpone the fulfilment of all aspects of id with reality into the achievement of id fulfilment in morality. Keywords: short story of a daughter-in-law or maid, the personality of the main character, Sigmund Freud's psychoanalysis

Abstract

This study aims to design a video script for the Travelin application at PT. Angkasa Pura II Palembang to facilitate customers' digital check-in and assist support officers. Employing a Research and Development (R&D) approach adapted from Plomp (1997) and utilising a qualitative descriptive design, the script design process included five stages: (1) preliminary investigation, (2) design, (3) realisation/development, (4) testing, evaluation, and revision, and (5) implementation. Data collection techniques comprised literature reviews and interviews, with thematic analysis applied to the interview data. Three experts, selected purposely—a scriptwriting expert, an Indonesian language expert, and an English language expert—participated in the script revision. Key findings from experts’ feedback highlighted the need to simplify sentences, enhance content engagement, incorporate contemporary language, and avoid redundancy. Language-specific suggestions included refining diction, addressing Indonesian affixes (e.g., di-), italicising English terms, and converting complex sentences to simpler structures. This refined script is anticipated to enhance the effectiveness of the Travelin application video at PT. Angkasa Pura II Palembang offers clear guidance to customers and improves digital security check-in processes.

Abstract

This research investigates the characterization of Gilbert Blythe, the main male character of Anne with an E series, produced by Moira Walley-Beckett and aired by Netflix in 2017, 2018, and 2019. The primary purpose of this qualitative study is to examine the transitivity processes used to portray Gilbert Blythe’s personality traits in three seasons of the series. By utilizing Halliday’s transitivity theory (2014), this study focuses on clauses where Blythe appears as participants or circumstantial elements. Data were collected through document-analysis method and note-taking technique. The results indicate that Blythe is adventurous, determined, confident, and considerate. The traits are communicated through material, mental, relational, verbal, and behavioural processes, with material process the most prominent. The predominance of the material process suggests that Blythe is an active character who takes action to pursue new experiences and work toward his chosen vocation. It also reflects the emphasis on physical actions, particularly in how Blythe interacts with and assists other characters in disadvantaged situations

Abstract

This research aims to understand the connectivity between a writer’s psyche and the act of narrative creation within a novel. A literary work or novel that is chosen to be the material object in this research is a work from William Faulkner entitled Absalom, Absalom! This novel has a complicated narrative style in which the storyline is not linear; moreover, some too many narrators appear to replace the main character. The theory of schizoanalysis will be applied to get the result that the novel has a schizophrenia tendency in its narrative style. The word schizophrenia as it is explained by Deleuze and Guattari is a form of a breakthrough. By examining the narrative style it is concluded that the novel had schizophrenic tendencies and Faulkner has offered his readers new ways to free themselves from the binary opposition caused by the grand narrative in history.
