Abstract

The aim of  the research was to improve the condition of the broilers’ intestine raised with single step down feeding system and the dietary inclusion of lime as acidifier. The research was conducted based on the completely randomized design with 8 treatments and 4 replication (consisted of 8 broiler each). Treatments were P0 (normal diet), P1 (single  step down diet), P2 (single  step down diet + citric acid 0.8%), P3 (single  step down diet + lime acid 0.4 % (6.9 ml / 100g feed)) P4, (single  step down diet + lime  acid 0.8% (13.8 ml / 100g feed)) and P5 (single  step down diet + lime acid 1.2% ( 20.7 ml / 100g feed)). Weight and length of the villi of all part of the small intestine were not affected by the addition of lime, but villi height of the duodenum was significantly affected by the inclusion of lime in the diet. Single step down feeding system and dietary inclusion of lime improve duodenal villi characteristic of broiler chickens.

Abstract

Genetic development of broiler is growing rapidly. Nowadays, broiler is slaughtered at the ages of 29 days rather than 35 days. Rapid growth is usually coupled by an immune deficiencies of broiler, therefore such feed additives as antibiotics is necessary to promote growth and improve endurance of the broiler. The purpose of this research was to investigate the amount of residue of Zinc bacitracin antibiotics in the thigh meat, breast meat, liver, and kidney of the broilers; and to determine the withdrawal time between the discontinuation of the antibiotic of the Zinc bacitracin and the slaughter of the broiler to eliminate or to reduce that residue so that the product of the broiler was safe for human consumption. The research was conducted at Sekolah Tinggi Penyuluhan Pertanian (STPP) Gowa. The broilers used in this study was strain Cobb SR 707, aged 29 days (unsexed), and were obtained from the local broiler farm. The ration containing the antibiotics of the Zinc bacitracin was terminated at day 0, 3, 6, and 9 before slaughtering. The bacteria used to test the dilution sensitivity was Staphylococcus aureus (105-108 colony mL-1). The transmittance reading of the sample solution from the Spectrophotometer was inputted into standard curve generated by from pure antibiotics to determine the antibiotics residue in the samples. The results were then compared with the value of SNI Number: 01-6366-2000 of year 2000. The data were analyzed descriptively and with a non linier regression analysis. The results revealed that the level of the Zinc bacitracin residue decreased following the duration of the cessation of the Zinc bacitracin antibiotic treatment. The antibiotic residue in the sample was smaller than that set in the standards (SNI, 2000) so that the broiler products were safe for human consumption.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the role of some marketing agencies in selling eggs of layer farmers in Indonesia. The research was conducted in West Java, Bali and South Sulawesi. The selection of those regions was based on the category that they had the most populous layer farmers compared to other regions. The number of respondents was determined using quota sampling method from FAO poultry industry data, i.e. 60 layer farmers of West Java and South Sulawesi respectively, and 41 farmers of Bali. The farmers involved in the study were those having layer population between 2000-5000 hens. Data were collected from the respondents through deep interview using a questioner that have been prepared before hand and conducted in May 2010.  The results of the study indicated that among the marketing agencies studied in the three regions; West Java, Bali and South Sulawesi, the role of whole sellers in eggs selling of layer farmers was the most important one, followed by restaurants, traditional markets, consumers and the poultry shop, respectively. In terms of egg selling price in the three regions, the most expensive was in Bali and the cheapest one was in South Sulawesi.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of using rumen liquid fermented mulberry leaves in boiler’s diet on feed consumption, blood glucose, and abdominal fat. This research used 100 of day old CP 707 broiler chicks, as well as concentrate, fermented mulberry leaves and other feed stuffs. The experiment was carried out according to completely randomized design consisted of five treatments, i.e. T0 (control), T1 (10% mulberry leaf), T2 (10% fermented mulberry leaf), T3 (20% mulberry leaf) and T4 (20% fermented mulberry leaf) and four replications for each treatment. Result of the study showed that the increasing use of mulberry leaves, either fermented or unfermented, significantly (P<0.05) increased feed consumption compared to control. Treatment with 20% unfermented murlberry leaf significantly (P<0.05) decreased fat and glucose levels. This study concludes that 20% murlberry used in diet decrease energy density of diet and the use of 10% fermented mulberry leaf produced better results than unfermented.

Abstract

Composites of whey dangke and agar can form edible film. The downside of this edible film are fragile, brittle and inflexible. Addition of glycerol, which is one of plasticizers, may improve characteristics of edible film to be more elastic, flexible and not easy to become fragile. The proper use of glycerol will affect the characteristics of the edible film. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the percentage of glycerol to the edible film characteristics, including yield, thickness, tensile strength, elongation, and color. This study was carried out according to completely randomized design consisted of three levels of glycerol concentrations, i.e. 25%, 35%, and 45% as treatments. Each treatment was repeated 5 times. The results study indicated that the thickness of edible film ranged from 0.024 mm to 0.035 mm, the yield varied from 7.26% to 7.87%, the tensile strength was between 13.60 and to 4.20 N, elongation was from 33.33 to 80%, and the color of L was 88.86 to 88.81, the value for “a” was between (-1.48) and (-0.94), and “b” was from 4.19 to 5.56. An increase in the percentage of glycerol decreased tensile strength but increased elongation. The addition of 45% glycerol caused “a” color change value (reduced green color). The addition of 35% glycerol caused changes in color values “b” (reduced yellow color), but the increase in the percentage of glycerol did not change the thickness and brightness values (L) of edible film. It was concluded that the higher the percentage of glycerol added in manufacturing edible film made from a composite whey dangke and agar decreased the tensile strength, increased the elongation and changed the color values of “a” and “b”, but did not change the thickness and rendemen of edible film.

Abstract

The aim of the experiment was to find the most appropriate supplement for sheep fed on vegetable waste silage–based diet to produce better weight gain. Sixteen male local sheep (average body weight of 13.27+2.82 kg ) were randomly divided into four groups according to completely randomised design.  Each group received one of four treatments i.e. T0 (50% field grass + 50% concentrate), T1 (50% silage of vegetable waste + 50% concentrate), T2 (T1 diet + mineral Zn 20 ppm, Cr 2 ppm), and T3 ( T2 diet + 1% alginate). After two weeks of preliminary period, sheep were subjected to 12 weeks of observation. In general, the vegetable waste silage based diet (T1,T2, T3) resulted in better crude protein (CP) intake and weight gain than the T0 diet.  Each treatment of T0, T1, T2, and T3 resulted in Protein consumption of  36,48 ; 45,81 ; 53,59 ; 40,75 g, and weight gain of 75; 105; 121; 109 g/day, respectively. Mineral supplementation (T2) resulted in higher rates of weight gain and feed efficiency compared to the mixed mineral and alginate supplementation (T3), therefore leading to the conclusion that only Zn and Cr mineral supplementation is needed for the vegetable waste silage used as sheep ruminant feed.
