Abstract

Since 2014 Indonesia has entered a new phase in the efforts to fulfill children's rights, especially the protection of children in schools through Child-Friendly Schools (CFS). Until May 2019, there were 16,880 CFS’s throughout Indonesia. There are six indicators of CFS, this paper focus on how the the application of discipline without violence in school. Using a mixed research method, through a survey of 3272 students in 75 schools in Bekasi, Depok and Bandung, and interviews with the students, principal and school committee. This research shows that the CFS policy in schools is still not running well. Violence, in the name of discipline, still continues at school. Students are still physically punished, there is no mechanism for the conversion of sentences to assignments, so there is no mechanism for complaints and prosecution of sexual harassment cases. This is certainly worrying, because CFS policy is not just a school claim, but must manifest in school policy and implementation.

Abstract

Gender inequality occurs in the form of marginalization, subordination, stereotype, violence, and double burden happened in every social institution, one of which is the DEMA Faculty at IAIN Bukittinggi. The difference in gender roles between male students and female students in various Faculty DEMA activities in the IAIN Bukittinggi environment causes inequality in gender relations, due to the limited space owned by female students. Meanwhile, the sexist division of labor is based on gender, where male students play a role in broader activities, and female students are only tasked with taking care of correspondence and finances within the organization. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques, interviews, and documentation, the analysis used is Miles and Huberman data analysis techniques. For the data obtained to be accurate, data validity techniques were carried out by extending observations, increasing persistence, and triangulation. The results of the study can be described that the conditions that occur in the Faculty DEMA in the IAIN Bukittinggi environment place male students as superiority and female students as inferiority so that it is very detrimental to the position of female students in the policymaking process at the Faculty DEMA in the IAIN Bukittinggi environment. Which results in inequality in gender relations, because of the understanding that men must be in the top position in policymaking. The form of inequality in gender relations that occurs in DEMA Faculties in the IAIN Bukittinggi environment, such as marginalization, stereotypes, and subordination. Strongly rooted in a patriarchal culture that always puts men as the central figure in gender relations, so that female students are always the second class and get less professional treatment in organizational reality and the weak pattern of gender relations in DEMA Faculty in IAIN Bukittinggi, and less open in the context of the relationship between the two, also affects the effectiveness of the organization.

Abstract

The 'hijrah' movement in Indonesian society has grown in recent years. This phenomenon is then used to campaign for various matters related to religious issues with various interests. The problem is that these campaigns under the guise of religion are often discriminatory for women. By imposing the logic of the social construction of gender as a 'gifted', people use hijrah to restrict the role of women in public space. Ironically, media industries in Indonesia also provide a space for those campaigns. Regarding this case, few mainstream media have generated counter-discourse. Criticism of this phenomenon is found sporadically in "alternative" media, such as Mubadalah.id. Based on this fact, this research tries to describe how Mubadalah.id raises a discourse against women's marginalization in Islam. By using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis, the researcher analyzed discourse through three levels: text, discourse practice, and sociocultural practice. The results depict that Mubadalah.id represents a form of marginalization as a discourse that is contrary to gender equality in Islam. Mubadalah.id wants to show that women have the right to pursue the highest education and have a career. On the other hand, the media also provide a counter-discourse that domestic work is the responsibility of women and men.
