Abstract

T he study aimed to evaluate the factors influencing children involved in legal conflicts in the SOCCSKSARGEN region. The local government of SOCCSKSARGEN is adopting various strategies to address the problem of Children in Conflict with the Law (CICLs) in South Cotabato, Cotabato Province, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City. One of the procedures entails establishing the Bahay Pag-asa, a rehabilitation center for children in conflict with the law (CICLs) and at-risk youth. The study participants were of juveniles involved in criminal activities residing at St. Marcelline in General Santos City. These children were placed in the institution to redirect their focus and provide them with a safe haven while their case is being decided. This study employed a quantitative-descriptive design. This study employed the survey approach to gather information about the demographic profile and factors influencing youth involved in criminal activities, such as family relationships, peer influence, and external environmental factors. The conclusions drawn are based on the collected data. 1. Children in Conflict with the Law were of various ages, ranging from 9 to 21 years old, at the time of committing the crime. 2. The majority of these children were influenced by their family dynamics, which led them to engage in criminal activities. 3. The objective is to facilitate the reintegration of children in conflict with the law into society after their case is resolved. The aforementioned programs and services encompassed residential care services, including caring, healing, life skills intervention program, and teaching, as well as a juvenile justice program, technical skills program, and independent living program. This study examines the impact of several influences in the community on youngsters involved in criminal activities. Additionally, it might be inferred that the societal standards in their previous place of residence had ingrained a certain psychological impact on them, causing their sense of wrongdoing to be hindered.

Abstract

The global ascendancy of Korean cosmetic products, propelled by the Korean Wave phenomenon, has fundamentally reshaped beauty standards and consumer behaviors worldwide. This study aimed to determine the factors influencing the use of Korean cosmetics among female university students in the Philippines, focusing on perceived authenticity, aesthetic appeal, and facial perception. A structured questionnaire was administered to 175 respondents from a private university in Metro Manila. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including Spearman's rank correlation coefficient and regression analysis. Results indicated a statistically significant positive correlation between the perceived aesthetic appeal of packaging (β = .211, p < .006) and the usage of Korean cosmetics. Regression analysis confirmed that perceived aesthetic appeal was a determinant of product usage (R2 = 0.176, P ≤ 0.05). Facial attractiveness (β = .107, p = .165) were found to be statistically significantly correlated with usage, however, found to be not statistically significant determinant. Perceived authenticity (β = .005, p = .950) showed no correlation with product usage and not a determinant as well. These findings underscore the importance of visual aesthetics in consumer behavior among young Filipino consumers, providing strategic insights for brands in the competitive beauty market of the Philippines.

Abstract

This quantitative study aimed to identify the optimal model of work engagement, focusing on psychological empowerment, self-efficacy, and job satisfaction among 400 financial managers in Davao Region, Philippines, and Daugavpils, Latvia. Employing a descriptive correlational design, data were gathered via purposive sampling and analyzed using mean analysis, t-tests, correlation analysis, regression, and structural equation modelling. Results highlighted significant levels of psychological empowerment, self-efficacy, job satisfaction, and work engagement, with psychological empowerment showing geographic variation. The study revealed strong correlations among these variables, underscoring their impact on work engagement outcomes. Amongst the five models tested, Model 5 emerged as the best fit, incorporating indicators such as psychological empowerment (meaning, competence, impact), self-efficacy (general and social), job satisfaction (remuneration, work achievement), and work engagement (physical, emotional). This model is recommended for understanding and promoting work engagement among financial managers, providing valuable insights for organizational practices to enhance employee motivation and performance.

Abstract

In order to improve school performance, school leaders must be more effective and efficient in their administration, and their management skills must be enhanced. As a result, this study aimed to determine if there was a link between school administrators’ financial competencies in managing school resources and the financial management practices of the Schools Division of Quezon. The descriptive-correlational technique of research was used to conduct the study with 372 school administrators and teachers in the Division of Quezon to analyze the link between the independent and dependent variables. Descriptive and Inferential analyses were carried out using SPSS. The findings revealed that managing school resources was highly practiced by the respondents, such as record management, financial management, school facilities and equipment, staff management, and school safety for disasters. In terms of financial management, the respondents highly practiced budgeting, auditing, finance and resource management mobilization, financial reporting, and inventory management. On matters of school administrators’ financial management, the respondents were highly competent in the areas of securing financial resources, fiscal management, the use of technology in the management of operations, coordinating with others, and professionalism. Furthermore, the result confirmed the significant correlation between the financial management competencies of the school administrators in managing school resources and financial management practices. Also, there were single and combined related variables of financial management competencies that demonstrated significant effects and served as predictors for managing school resources and financial management. Annual orientation, seminars, and workshops for school administrators in SDO Quezon on financial management, technology, awareness, codes, facilities, and professional development improve performance. Technical help, mentorship, and benchmarking are also essential.

Abstract

The utilization of digital platforms in education has become increasingly prevalent, particularly among secondary school teachers. This study aims to explore the benefits, challenges, and practices associated with the incorporation of digital platforms in the teaching methods of secondary school teachers within a specific division. Teachers experience enhanced engagement and interaction within their classrooms, resulting in improved student participation and comprehension. Moreover, digital platforms offer flexibility in delivering instructional materials, accommodating diverse learning styles and paces. However, alongside these benefits, teachers encounter notable challenges. Technical barriers, such as limited access to devices and internet connectivity, hinder the seamless integration of digital platforms. Privacy and security concerns, coupled with the need for digital literacy skills, further complicate the adoption process. Moreover, the transformation of traditional teaching methods to suit digital platforms necessitates time and effort. In this context, various practices emerge among secondary school teachers. Effective integration of digital platforms requires strategic planning, encompassing content creation, delivery modes, and assessment methods. Collaborative approaches, where teachers share experiences and resources, mitigate challenges, and foster professional growth. Furthermore, adapting to students' digital fluency, tailoring content for different subjects, and harnessing interactive features prove crucial to successful implementation. By examining the benefits, challenges, and practices related to digital platform utilization, this study contributes insights that can inform educational policies, professional development programs, and instructional strategies. The findings underscore the importance of acknowledging challenges while harnessing the opportunities digital platforms offer to enhance the teaching and learning experience in secondary education.

Abstract

This study describes coffee consumption and its perceived effects on the study habits of selected higher education students at Cavite State University Imus Campus. A quantitative research design was employed, surveying 208 students via a structured questionnaire. The study analyzed the data using descriptive and inferential statistics. The demographic profile of respondents shows a majority of females (55.77%) and students aged 21 to 24 years (48.07%), with most enrolled in the BSIT program. Results indicate that coffee consumption is a prevalent part of students' daily routines, with 76.44% drinking coffee daily and a significant preference for both hot and cold types (57.21%). One cup per day is the most common consumption level (57.21%). Students perceived coffee to significantly enhance cognitive functions, energy levels, productivity, and mood during study sessions, aligning with previous research highlighting caffeine's positive effects on memory, alertness, and motor coordination (Lin et al., 2023). However, there are mixed perceptions regarding dependency and withdrawal symptoms, with some negative impacts noted when coffee is not drunk, echoing concerns about tolerance and withdrawal symptoms discussed in the literature (Van De Walle et al., 2019). Findings showed no significant differences in the perceived effects of coffee consumption when the respondents were grouped by age, sex, year level, or degree program. This research suggests that coffee consumption plays a vital role in the student's academic lives. While consumption enhances cognitive and academic performance, it also presents potential risks related to coffee dependency. Administrators can use the findings of this study to enhance the school environment with a focus on food and health security by providing healthier alternatives and varied coffee options in campus canteens that can support students' academic success.

Abstract

The study sought to determine the effects of different levels of concentrations of bio-stimulant solution (BSS) in enhancing the growth and maximizing the yield of the cucumber plant. The study was conducted at UNO-R School of Agriculture, Philippines, last January 8, 2024, to March 18, 2024. The study was laid out in (CRD) with four treatments and replicated 4 times. The BSS solution was diluted in the water. It was applied at the base of the vine following the research protocol. Statistical analysis revealed highly significant differences among the treatments in growth and yield parameters such as length of vine and weight of marketable fruits, respectively. Likewise, results showed highly significant differences among treatments on flower initiation, number of leaves, number of fruits, circumference, and diameter of fruits, biomass, and root weight. For the longest vine, greater number of leaves, early flower initiation, great number of fruits, greater length and bigger circumference of fruits, heavier weight of fruits, heavier roots, and biomass accumulation were obtained from plants applied with 400ml BSS, followed by 300ml BSS, and 200ml BSS, respectively. While those who have no BSS had the lowest result in almost all of the parameters mentioned above. Four growth characteristics are strongly correlated with the length of vines, and three for the root weight, respectively. This study recommends the use of 400ml BSS in enhancing the growth and maximizing the yield of cucumber.

Abstract

Spring Onion (Allium fistulosum), is a perennial plant and a native of Eastern Asia. It is rich in vitamins A and K, iron, calcium, and dietary fiber, which contribute to various health benefits, blood pressure and cholesterol levels and improve blood regulation. The study aims to evaluate the response of spring onion to the different levels of concentration of bio-stimulant. Around 160 spring onion plants were utilized as planting materials. Before planting, extra leaves were cut to around 3 inches and roots were trimmed off too. The study was conducted at the School of Agriculture, University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos, Philippines using a Complete Randomized Design (CRD). All data gathered were statistically computed, and subjected to ANOVA using STAR 2.0.1. The experiment has four treatments: 0%, 20%, 30%, and 40% BSS, respectively, and was replicated four times. Results indicate that the application of 30% BSS significantly enhances the height to 32.02cm higher by 2.09cm for those with 0% BSS at 29.93 cm only, On the number of slips, 30% BSS has a greater number of slips of 3.42 against those with 0% BSS at 2.17 slips only. Biomass accumulation is highly significant with 3,375.00kg/ha for 30% BSS higher by 1,562.50kg/ha for 0% BSS. The total yield for 30% BSS is 3,000.00kg/ha significantly higher by 1,562.50kg/ha for 0% BSS with 1,437.50kg/ha only. Based on these findings, the application of a 30% BSS is recommended to optimize some of the agronomic attributes and yield of spring onions.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study was conducted to assess the digital services of the Philippine Social Security System in terms of processing of personal data, organizational measures, physical measures, and technical measures. The research employed a descriptive-correlational approach, utilizing a questionnaire as the primary data gathering instrument. However, interviews among the 5 heads of the 5 biggest branches of SSS in the NCR were utilized to validate the data taken in the questionnaire among the 3 groups of respondents: BPOs (120), front-liners (180), and clients (1292). For BPOs and front-liners, complete enumeration was used, while convenience sampling was utilized for clients. Weighted mean and one-way ANOVA were used for the treatment of the data. The study revealed that all the indicators in all four variables were, on average, partially implemented. The seriousness of the encountered problems led to a highly recommended assessment of the presented solutions. Further investigation revealed no significant differences in assessment among the three groups of respondents. The study's findings led to the conclusion that Philippine Social Security requires additional physical and electronic paperwork. Additionally, the Philippine Social Security System shares and exchanges personal data with other parties through digital channels. Furthermore, the corporate orientation course for newly hired or absorbed employees does not include security management, despite its availability. Finally, SSS has yet to use advanced technology to detect fake, altered, and fraudulent documents; hence, it still needs to use advanced technology to formulate a comprehensive data security manual to integrate digital measures against cybercrime. Therefore, the study's findings and conclusions inform the following recommendations: Firstly, we should archive and retain physical or electronic documents containing personal data in secure and protected record rooms, offsite storage facilities, or receptacles or cabinets, in accordance with the issued policies. Second, only with prior consent or authority from the data subjects, a judicial order, or a data sharing agreement can we use digital platforms to disclose and share personal data with third parties. Third, newly hired or absorbed employees should include data security management in their corporate orientation course. Fourth, we should use advanced technology to detect fake, altered, and fraudulent documents. Finally, we should formulate a data security manual to incorporate digital measures against cybercrime.

Abstract

This study explores how individuals strive to improve their livelihoods by leveraging accessible opportunities. It aimed to evaluate the outcomes of Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs on participants, along with the subsequent effects on their families and immediate community, emphasizing the programs' transformative influence. The research highlights the intersection of poverty alleviation, employment, education, and industry—core elements of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. The investigation was conducted in a neighborhood in Cebu City, Philippines, conveniently located near a technical-vocational training center. A qualitative approach, specifically using case study methodology, was employed. Convenience sampling was used to gather information, leading to interviews with consenting participants. Additionally, observations from nearby residents who have witnessed the community’s changes over time served as supplementary data. The study sought to understand respondents' personal experiences with training programs, the effects on their families and immediate community, their unique circumstances, and the key insights and significant implications. The findings reveal that skills training improves employability, helps meet basic needs, and enhances the quality of life at individual, family, and community levels. The study concludes that skills training has a transformative impact on these three areas. However, to fully optimize its positive effects, skills training should be supplemented with additional initiatives.
