Abstract

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) rolled-out the Dangit Processing Livelihood FishCORALProject for the fishers’ organization in Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon in mid 2019 funded by UN-IFAD. Designed to help reduce poverty through increased household income, women participation and project sustainability. This study looked into the relevance, effectiveness and efficiency of implementation and readiness in attaining project objectives. The study is mixed descriptive method and used semi-structured questionnaire, key informants interview, FGD and secondary data analysis. The project was found relevant but poor in coordination and involvement of other stakeholders. Effective but failed to contribute to poverty reduction due to late implementation, no comprehensive project plans and technical support. Inefficient as it failed to translate resources it to incomes and sustained operations. The community organizationsare not ready and capable (lack technical and business management skills). The local resources (danggit, people and community organization) guarantee sustainability if managed appropriately. Women empowerment is hardly achieved. Recommendations;1) Develop project sustainability plan (technical and business facets of theproject), capacitate the organization along leadership and business management. 2) Bio-ecological data be produced on danggit stock to fine tune harvesting and regenerative capacity to ensure sustainability of supply. 3) Technical support provision coming from BFAR, LGU, academe, DTI, DOST, NLRC, NGOs in the form of product development, value adding, branding & packaging, business management, access to funds, assigning a full-time community facilitator as priority. Responsibilities and commitments of BFAR, LGU and the beneficiary be concretized through a memorandum of cooperation.

Abstract

The current economic conditions and financial issues are becoming increasingly important as students face more complex challenges in managing their money. Nowadays, students need to be more aware of these challenges, which may pose a threat to their future success. Thus, the conduct of this study would be beneficial in order to bring light to the restraining results found from other literature and contribute to the body of knowledge aligned with this study. This study aims to understand the correlation between the family income and its effects towards the student budgeting, and whether sex, as a moderating variable, is related to the independent and dependent variables. The study employed descriptive-correlation design and random sampling method, particularly Slovin’s formula, to identify the total sample from the population of accounting students in the University. The statistical treatments used were descriptive statistics and inferential statistics to test the relationships of the variables particularly the relationship of family income towards budgeting and allowance and the relationship of allowance towards budgeting. Meanwhile, Mann Whitney U-test was used to test the differences of the participants when grouped in terms of sex. The results of the study depict that there is no significant difference in the budgeting of participants when they are grouped in terms of sex and there is an indirect relationship between family income and budgeting. Based on the results, researchers may recommend conducting a community extension initiative aimed at developing financial literacy among students.

Abstract

The study aimed to analyze the survival of two operational community newspapers in Cavite: Bantay Balita and Dateline Weekly Newspaper, amidst the surge of the digital age of journalism. The researchers employed a qualitative method, specifically a descriptive type, through semi-structured interviews for the research design. Purposive and convenience sampling techniques were utilized in the study. The selected editorial board members of Bantay Balita and Dateline Weekly Newspaper were the main criteria for participant selection. During data analysis, the researchers examined the gathered data using thematic analysis. In this method, researchers interpreted the extracted codes from participants’ responses. The results revealed that Dateline Weekly Newspaper is more stable than Bantay Balita due to its long-standing presence, digital adaptability, additional business opportunities, and strong networks with accredited partners, substantially contributing to its survival. Dateline maintains a good reputation, is free from lawsuits and criticism, and actively avoids competition. However, it faces challenges in the editorial process, production, and distribution resources. It is observed that Dateline Weekly Newspaper lacks the ABCs of news writing—accuracy, brevity, and clarity—in some of its news articles, often relying on outsourced press releases and encountering issues with operators and delivery systems. On the other hand, Bantay Balita struggles with digital adaptation but remains viable due to its quality journalism. Most of its connections are with governmental sectors, limiting its business potential. Despite legal accusations and financial distress, Bantay Balita continues to operate by engaging in friendly competition, contributing to its resilience in the industry.

This study aimed to assess employee awareness and satisfaction with Hanjin social responsibility services in 2019. The research involved 11 employees (85) and 25 department managers from the Hanjin Subic Shipyard. The study used questionnaires to gather data on employees' profiles and awareness of the company's benefits. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools and gathered through a pilot data-gathering process. The survey shows that all respondents benefit from the company's annual physical examinations, which are both the company's and employees' responsibility. The services include free shuttles, food allowances, medical and dental assistance, housing, and educational assistance. Basic occupational safety and health training was taken by 41.82 percent of respondents. Management training and development was received by 0.91% of employees. Higher awareness contributes to employee satisfaction with Hanjin CSR services. The management of Hanjin raises employee awareness of CSR services by holding a symposium and disseminating various information, for example.

Abstract

Highland vegetable farming is the cultivation of vegetables in high-altitude regions to take advantage of the unique climatic conditions found at higher elevations, such as cooler temperatures, greater rainfall, and more fertile soil. In 2020, a successful pilot production of highland vegetables in Puerto Princesa City was conducted by local government in partnership with the Sitio Busngol Farmers Association (SBFA). Recently, the farmers are able to produce significant amount of bell pepper, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, celery, lettuce, chines cabbage, onion leaves, and snap beans. A good indication that the location has a potential of producing an ample amount of the commodity to sustain the demand of the city and to decrease its dependency in Cordillera region. Thus, this study examined the determinants for increased efficiency of the farmers in producing highland vegetables by assessing their profile and farming practices in relation to the Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for Fruits and Vegetable Farming – Code of Practice of the Philippines. Further, this study examined the relationship between their total harvest and farming practices. This study used descriptive correlational quantitative research design to attain the objectives and answer the research questions. A researcher-made questionnaire underwent content validation and reliability testing with an alpha coefficient of .917 (Excellent). Ten (10) member farmers of SBFA served as respondents of the study. Using Pearson Correlation Coefficient, there is a strong positive relationship between the Total Harvest of the farmers and their farming practices in terms of Source of Irrigation Water and Management, Post-Harvest Handling and Storage, and Transport and Marketing respectively as evidenced by their p-values.

Abstract

The local universities and colleges (LUCs) in the Philippines crafted local policies and developed programs on mental health to prioritize the well-being of workers in accordance with the provisions of RA 11036, otherwise known as the Mental Health Act, and CSC MC 4 s. 2020, otherwise known as the Mental Health Program in the Public Sector. The study aimed to describe the extent of implementation of mental health programs (MHPs) in LUCs and explore the program implementation experiences. Using a mixed-method research design, the data were gathered through surveys among 49 school managers selected through proportional stratified random sampling from three LUCs in the province of Zambales. Results from the rating scale items indicate that the mental health programs are implemented in terms of Management, Technical Package, Partnerships, and Communication components. Moreover, the experiences of the management highlighted the themes of beneficial opportunities, management of feelings and behaviors, and engagement in appropriate programs and activities, as well as lack of budget and limited relevant programs and activities. The Action Plan serves as the study's output, addressing the areas needing improvement through doable interventions.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the learner engagement strategies and academic performance in online distance learning, Zone 3, Division of Zambales. A descriptive-correlational research design and quantitative analysis were employed in the study. The learner engagement strategies of intermediate learners in online distance learning were described and the academic performance tested its relationship. Findings revealed that learners are female, early adolescents, have smartphones, and are connected to the internet via WIFI broadband. The learners are highly engaged in the learner engagement strategies in online distance learning as learner-to-learner, learner- to- teachers and learner-to-content strategies in online distance learning. The learners obtained an outstanding academic performance. There is a significant difference in the learner engagement strategies in online distance learning as to learner-to-learner, learner- to- teachers and learner-to-content strategies in online distance learning when grouped according to the profile of the respondents in terms of age. There is a negligible relationship on the academic performance and learner engagement strategies of the learners. The proposed dissemination plan was developed based on the results of learner-to-learner, learner-to-teacher, and learner-to-content engagement strategies. The researcher recommends the following based on the findings that the teacher may still provide learning materials to be available to the learners. The teachers may encourage the learners to participate in the forum actively created so that they may ask questions about the lesson. The participation of the learners in virtual meetings during discussions is highly encouraged.

Abstract

The introduction of Philippine folk dance (PFD) has been a very challenging pursuit by many physical educators in the Philippines. Thus, a continuous exploration of potential instruction powered by digital technologies is currently being explored. Hence, this study employed iSAYAW - a web-based system teaching-learning material for teaching PFD. This study utilized a quantitative action research approach, employing a one-group pre-test and post-test inquiry. A 50-item researcher-made test was administered to assess students' conceptual understanding of Philippine folk dance before and after the intervention. A class of 45 students was identified to gain the lowest mean score during the pre-test, which was the reason for the four-week implementation of iSAYAW. After the intervention, it was found that the post-test scores showed a notable increase compared to pre-test scores, indicating that the web-based learning material effectively enhanced students' conceptual understanding of PFD and contributed to their learning of the concepts. Hence, it was revealed that students' experiences were enjoyable and that using the app was helpful for independent learning. It led them to improve their scores as it offers lessons that the teachers are not teaching sometimes. In contrast, this application mitigates the learning process of the PFD concepts. However, students faced challenges, particularly with their internet connection limiting their learning experience with the application. Hence, it is recommended that students explore iSAYAW, expand its content, extend usage duration, include multiple grade levels, and promote cultural heritage to enhance learning and appreciation of Philippine folk dance.
