Abstract

This study examined the relationship between sleep quality and quantity and emotion regulation strategies among 281 college students from a college of the University of the Philippines Los Banos. Data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire that included the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ). Findings indicated that participants had an average of 7.04 hours of sleep, considered sufficient in quantity, but poor in quality (mean PSQI = 8.20). Most students used cognitive reappraisal more frequently than expressive suppression. Pearson correlation analysis revealed that better sleep quality and quantity were generally associated with increased use of cognitive reappraisal. The findings underscore the need to support students’ sleep health and promote adaptive emotion regulation strategies to enhance overall well-being.

Abstract

The poor academic performance in Statistics and Probability has been one of the significant challenges in teaching and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially under modular distance learning. This action research aimed to improve the academic performance of Grade 11 TVL ICT-CSS learners at Kinan-oan High School, Trinidad II District, through the Magnified Math Solutions Strategy during School Year 2021–2022. The strategy was designed to enhance learners’ metacognitive skills by using a Learning Progress-Inquiry Form to gather self-assessments and specific learning inquiries. These inputs guided the creation of detailed math solutions and differentiated supplementary activities tailored to students' individual learning needs. Twenty-seven (27) learners participated in the study. A comparative analysis of their academic performance before and after the intervention revealed an improvement: learners classified as Fairly Satisfactory decreased from eleven (11) to three (3). The mean academic performance increased from 81.70% to 86.26%, showing a 4.56% gain. A paired sample t-test yielded a t-statistic of 37.54 and a p-value of < .001, indicating a statistically significant difference in learners’ performance before and after the intervention. The findings suggest that the Magnified Math Solutions Strategy is effective in improving academic performance in Statistics and Probability by promoting metacognition, differentiated instruction, and self-directed learning. However, since the study was conducted during modular distance learning with a small sample size, further research is recommended to validate its effectiveness in face-to-face settings and across more diverse learner populations.

Abstract

This study examines the role of food innovation in the global noodle market, particularly addressing the nutritional limitations of many instant noodle products. It emphasizes the need for healthier alternatives to meet the growing demand from health-conscious consumers. Specifically, the study advocates for the development of high-protein noodle variants enriched with local flavors, such as "Tuyong Tawilis" (dried Sardinella tawilis), to enhance both nutritional value and market appeal. The innovative noodle variant's quality and safety are ensured by thorough evaluations that involve sensory analysis, physico-chemical, and microbiological investigation. This highlights the importance of flavor theory and new product development in meeting consumer preferences and promoting innovation. The study uses a quantitative approach with 220 respondents—experts and students—selected by convenience sampling to create, execute, and assess the "tuyong tawilis" flavored noodles. The research methodically applies the Input-Process-Output (IPO) Model. The results indicate "tuyong tawilis"'s potential as a major flavoring component and physicochemical as well as microbiological analysis verify its safety and adherence to consumption guidelines. Sensory assessments support the created product's acceptance by showing a moderate like for a variety of features. In summary, the study presents a novel and well-received flavored noodle product that satisfies changing customer preferences without sacrificing quality or safety. It helps the dynamic food business by combining traditional local flavors with contemporary tastes. It also offers potential pathways for healthier and more pleasant noodle alternatives, helping to shape the continuous evolution of culinary goods in the market.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and explain the problems surrounding the implementation of Regional Regulations initiated by the Lampung Provincial House of Representatives (DPRD), particularly in terms of their effectiveness in supporting community welfare. Using a normative legal research method with a statute and theoretical approach, this study analyzed 12 Regional Regulations issued between 2015 and 2023 through content analysis of legal texts and supporting documents. The findings indicate two major issues. First, the absence of follow-up regulations in the form of Governor Regulations creates a legal vacuum, which hinders Regional Apparatus Organizations from operationalizing the Local regulation. Second, there is a fundamental disconnect between the legislative focus of the DPRD which emphasizes accommodating community aspirations and the executive priorities of the Regional Government, which are more programmatic and budget-oriented. As a result, DPRD-initiated Local regulation are often not integrated into regional development planning and remain unimplemented. This study recommends strengthening coordination mechanisms between the DPRD and the Regional Government during the legislative planning stage, as well as mandating a time-bound issuance of implementing regulations to ensure effective enforcement of regional laws.

Abstract

Innovation is pivotal for corporate sustainability in competitive emerging markets. This study examines the innovation management strategies of leading Philippine corporations in finance, real estate, retail, and technology from 2020 to 2024, utilizing the Input-Process-Output-Outcome (IPOO) framework, which maps how inputs are transformed into processes, outputs, and outcomes. Through qualitative content analysis of corporate reports and industry publications, we identify context-specific strategies, such as digital transformation (e.g., online platforms), sustainability initiatives (e.g., carbon neutrality), and customer-centric approaches (e.g., AI-driven tools), as key drivers of growth. For instance, SM Prime Holdings achieved a 14% net income increase in 2024 through sustainable mall expansions (SM Prime, 2024), while BDO Unibank’s AI-driven tools enhanced customer engagement by an estimated 20% (based on corporate reports). The study contributes to innovation management literature by demonstrating how these strategies drive financial and environmental outcomes in emerging markets, offering insights for policymakers and business leaders.

Abstract

This study examined the organizational commitment levels of employees across four generational cohorts: Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y, and Gen Z utilizing the Three-Component Model (TCM) of Commitment. The research investigated affective, continuance, and normative commitment to identify generational differences and their influencing factors among healthcare professionals using a mixed-methods approach. The study provided insights for tailored human resource strategies to enhance employee engagement, retention, and organizational performance, setting the stage for future empirical analysis. This study explored generational differences in organizational commitment among hospital employees using a mixed-methods, cross-sectional design. Quantitative data were collected through a structured survey, assessing affective, continuance, and normative commitment. Due to small sample sizes and non-normal data distribution, the Kruskal-Wallis H test was used to compare generational groups. Qualitative data from open-ended responses were thematically analyzed to identify key factors influencing commitment, such as value alignment and workplace support. Employees show high affective commitment, driven by emotional connection, shared values, and meaningful work. Continuance and normative commitment were moderate, influenced by job stability, benefits, and a sense of loyalty. There are no significant generational differences in commitment levels, most likely due to a shared mission in healthcare. Intrinsic, value-based factors play a stronger role in commitment than external pressures.

Abstract

This study explored the experiences and teaching competencies of non-education science teachers in the Division of Zambales before and during the pandemic to develop a training model suited for effective science instruction. A mixed-method sequential explanatory design was employed, involving 74 non-education science teachers and 36 supervisors. Quantitative data were collected and analyzed first, followed by qualitative data to deepen understanding of the results. Findings revealed that while teachers demonstrated general proficiency in curriculum planning, and instruction, assessment remained their weakest area. Challenges intensified during the pandemic, particularly in curriculum planning and assessment. Teachers faced difficulties in content depth, lesson planning, evaluation tools, and adapting instruction to student needs. Coping strategies were largely intrapersonal, including self-reliance, strategic planning, and emotional regulation, with limited reliance on external support. The study led to the development of the ELEVATE Teacher Training Model, a professional development framework with seven components: Enrich, builds content and planning skills; Leverage, promotes active learning and peer support; Equip, strengthens assessment skills; Validate, aligns strategies with learner traits; Adapt, encourages flexible, data-driven teaching; Transform, integrates ICT and reshapes negative coping; and Empower, supports continuous growth and leadership. The model provides a practical basis for training programs tailored to non-education science teachers. It provides a practical foundation for training programs tailored to non-education science teachers. Future research should assess its implementation, effectiveness, and long-term impact on teaching practices especially for non-education major teachers.
