Abstract

This study explores the futures of Philippine higher education toward 2050. Using a qualitative–exploratory foresight approach, it employed STEEP analysis and Causal Layered Analysis (CLA) with data drawn from secondary sources such as policy papers, international reports, and scholarly works. The findings highlight artificial intelligence (AI) and modular learning as key opportunities for personalized and inclusive education. However, challenges persist in digital inequality, inadequate infrastructure, and limited faculty readiness. Sustainability integration is emerging but remains underdeveloped. The study recommends strengthening digital infrastructure, enhancing faculty capacity, adopting inclusive AI tools, and embedding sustainability in curricula. Public–private partnerships and anticipatory policies are essential to ensure a future-ready higher education system that equips Filipino learners for evolving societal and labor-market demands.

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between registrar general services, physical setup, and staff familiarity in shaping student satisfaction in a high school setting. Using a quantitative descriptive-correlational design, responses from 264 students were analyzed through mean scores and Pearson’s correlation coefficients. Physical setup received the highest mean score (3.35), followed by staff familiarity (3.09) and general services (2.91). Significant positive correlations were found between general services and physical setup (r = 0.56), general services and staff familiarity (r = 0.34), and physical setup and staff familiarity (r = 0.41). Based on these results, the study recommends infrastructure improvements, empathy-based staff training, and digital service enhancements to foster a more student-centered registrar experience.

Abstract

The rapid integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies has transformed organizational strategies, efficiency, and competitiveness. However, successful adoption depends not only on technological capability but also on workforce digital readiness, which determines how effectively employees adapt to new systems. This study proposes to examine the influence of AI adoption and workforce digital readiness on organizational growth, with a focus on productivity, innovation, and competitive advantage. Using a mixed-methods design, quantitative data will be collected from surveys of organizational leaders and employees across industries, complemented by qualitative interviews to capture deeper insights into challenges and best practices. Despite the growing adoption of AI in the Philippines, limited empirical studies have examined the mediating role of workforce readiness in linking AI adoption to organizational growth, particularly within developing-economy contexts. The findings are expected to provide empirical evidence and policy guidance on how AI and digital readiness interact to shape organizational growth, offering implications for national workforce development strategies, leadership practices, and training programs. This proposal highlights the importance of aligning technological investments with human capital development to maximize organizational outcomes in the digital era.

Abstract

This study examined the internal migration dynamics in Brooke’s Point, Palawan, with particular emphasis on the socio-economic demographic profile of in-migrants, the key aspects influencing migration, and its economic, social, and environmental implications for local development.Employing a descriptive-empirical survey design, data were gathered from 381 respondents across eight barangays with significant migrant populations.Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including Pearson’s r and Chi-square tests, to determine relationships between socio-economic variables and migration patterns.Findings reveal that internal migration in Brooke’s Point is primarily economically driven, dominated by working-age, married, and male individuals seeking better livelihood opportunities. The municipality’s role as a regional agro-industrial hub has made it a major destination for migrants from Luzon and the Visayas. Most migrants are semi-skilled and engaged in informal or self-employed work, reflecting both the opportunities and vulnerabilities of migration. The study affirms E. Lee’s Push-Pull Theory, with lack of jobs as the strongest push factor and employment availability as the main pull factor, while De Haas’ Migration Transition Theory explains the shift from survival-driven to opportunity-driven migration. Migration has generated largely positive effects stimulating business growth, expanding markets, and fostering cultural diversity. However, challenges persist, including underemployment, social integration gaps, and environmental strain from unregulated settlement expansion. To address these, the study recommends integrating the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) framework in local governance, strengthening skills training and livelihood programs, promoting social cohesion, and enforcing sustainable land-use policies.Overall, internal migration in Brooke’s Point emerges as both a transformative and strategic force for inclusive and sustainable rural development.

Abstract

This paper examines the application of Laozi's leadership spirit in contemporary higher education, focusing on the practice of integrating Laozi's ideas into teaching and policies, as well as the enlightenment of Laozi's educational philosophy for teachers and students. Employing a qualitative design, an interview with two deans, 10 teacher representatives, and 6 class monitors from the School of Electrical Engineering at Shaanxi Polytechnic Institute of Industry was conducted. The study found that the school effectively integrates Laozi's "governing by doing nothing" via flexible curricula, process-oriented teaching, and relaxed policies. This balances academic freedom with institutional constraints while fostering student autonomy and sustainable development. The areas of Laozi's philosophy inspire self-management through non-intervention, soft communication to resolve conflicts, process-focused learning, and moral modelling, promoting educational harmony.

Abstract

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), as the premier national agency responsible for maritime safety, security, and marine environmental protection, relies on competent shipboard officers and seaworthy vessels to achieve mission readiness and success. However, many shipboard officers lack collegiate maritime education, creating challenges amid the PCG Modernization Program. This study developed a competency-based training program to enhance the shipboard capabilities of these non-maritime officers. Using a mixed-method design, it surveyed Junior Shipboard Operational Level Course (JSOLC) instructors to evaluate course effectiveness, interviewed PCG commanding officers and merchant marine masters/chief engineers for insights on essential watchstanding competencies and best practices, and tested 49 current non-maritime officers on their knowledge and understanding of watchstanding and Coast Guard-specific protocols. The findings revealed strengths in PCG customs and protocols but significant gaps in collision regulations, navigation, marine engineering, and practical shiphandling. These deficiencies underscore the need for targeted training to align skills with operational demands. Based on the results, a structured competency-based training program was developed to address these gaps, improving shipboard efficiency and supporting mission success. The program emphasizes practical modules in navigation, shiphandling, and engineering, supplemented by STCW-aligned assessments. This contributes to competency-based training literature by highlighting education-job mismatch in Coast Guard-maritime contexts and offers practical recommendations for PCG shipboard curriculum enhancement.

Abstract

This study investigates the philanthropic corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices of rural banks and their effects on societal development, employee welfare, and institutional sustainability. Using qualitative data collected from respondents across three rural banks, the study identified 24 open codes, 8 categories, and 3 major themes. Findings reveal that rural banks strategically implement CSR programs—such as livelihood training, educational initiatives, community outreach, and environmental activities—to promote community empowerment and socio-economic development. These initiatives enhance clients’ financial literacy, income-generating capacities, and overall well-being, positioning rural banks as vital agents of local development. Internally, CSR engagement fosters employee morale, satisfaction, and organizational loyalty by strengthening alignment between personal values and institutional missions. The consistent support of bank leadership ensures the long-term sustainability and institutionalization of CSR initiatives. Two central outcomes of CSR emerged: growth, reflected in increased product awareness, financial performance, and customer retention; and relationships, manifested through stronger employee engagement and stakeholder trust. Despite logistical constraints, CSR efforts remained effective and impactful across participating institutions. The study concludes that philanthropic CSR in rural banking transcends mere compliance or goodwill—it serves as a strategic lever for organizational resilience and community advancement. The research contributes to the growing discourse on CSR in developing economies by providing empirical insights into how socially responsible practices can simultaneously drive sustainable development and institutional competitiveness within the rural banking sector.

Abstract

Online learning greatly supports the offering of distance education by providing innovative platforms. This study examined graduate students’ perceptions of online learning as a basis for offering distance education. It utilized the concurrent mixed method. The respondents of the study are the graduate school students at La Consolacion University, Philippines, enrolled during the 2nd trimester of the school year 2022–2023. The quantitative results of the study have a weighted mean of 3.71, which showed strong agreement on online learning activities, strategies, media, and support instruments. Qualitative analysis revealed three perceived advantages: innovative engagement, convenience, and flexible scheduling. It was then concluded that the study highlighted that online learning could be an effective and innovative practice for graduate school students. Constant efforts must be made to improve the online learning environment in response to student feedback and to alter educational paradigms to preserve the high standard of online education.  The findings imply that distance education programs should continue enhancing online learning activities, strategies, and tools to sustain positive student perceptions. With convenience, flexibility, and innovative engagement as key advantages, institutions must invest in digital resources, faculty training, and support systems while ensuring continuous feedback to maintain quality and relevance in graduate education.

Abstract

This study assesses the teaching effectiveness of Filipino teacher interns in post-pandemic classrooms, focusing on instructional strategies, student–teacher interactions, and pedagogical efficacy. Employing a quantitative design with supplementary qualitative validation, data were collected from 24 teacher interns, 24 cooperating teachers, and 240 students in selected secondary schools under the supervision of DepEd Cabanatuan and DepED Nueva Ecija. Standardized rating scales, structured interviews, and classroom observations were used to assess communication proficiency, content knowledge, instructional material preparation, assessment design, and teaching strategies. Findings revealed high teaching efficiency, especially in differentiated instruction, digital tool integration, and strong communication skills. However, gaps in adaptability and instructional alignment emerged, as cooperating teachers’ ratings were slightly lower than the interns' self-evaluations. These results underscore the importance of ongoing professional development to enhance adaptive teaching and reflective self-evaluation, thereby aligning stakeholder expectations and advancing Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).
