Abstract

This paper intends to show the importance of the Education Management Information System (EMIS) as well as the trends, challenges, and implications to educational policy. To achieve this, the proponents did a mini-review. The paper searched the internet for relevant and timely research papers and articles mainly focusing on the education management information system. After garnering enough materials for the mini-review, the tedious task of evaluating and analyzing the concepts and contexts of each material took place. Based on the evaluation, this paper found that some studies have shown promising results and positive experiences with the implementation education management information system (EMIS) in their institution. However, some did not execute well due to several reasons and factors. In addition, some research papers provided essential recommendations and suggestions that will help solve these different problems of EMIS. In the end, the paper concluded and shared some significant implications that school administrators can use for future references for policy and decision-making.

Abstract

Writing online has influenced the way people communicate and write. The integration of this innovative electronic device into the language classroom provided students with writing opportunities. This study aims to analyze the features of the students’ blog posts. This study employed a general qualitative approach utilizing the blog posts of the BSED second-year students enrolled in a language class, which were drawn randomly as the corpus of the study. The content analysis technique was used to characterize a student's blog post. The study revealed that the features of the students’ blog posts were blogging attitude, content, connections with the audience, and innovativeness. Student bloggers communicated to the readers with excitement, motivation, interest, or emotions. Student bloggers generated ideas, opinions, concepts, and thoughts about the topic, provided useful and important information from various sources, and took a position on the topics and concepts that were discussed. Furthermore, students communicated in innovative ways by using figurative language, idioms, and powerful words. This study concluded that blogging is a trend in writing that allows creativity and an opportunity for students to improve their writing skills. Thus, the teacher may use blogging as one of the flexible assessments that can be utilized in the new normal of teaching by evaluating the authentic work of the students. Students may also be given an infographic called "Writing Online: Improving Writing Skills through Blogging" to help them figure out what makes a good blog post.

Abstract

Distance learning manifested an increasing growth in the field of higher education. Although it may not be exactly comparable to a residential face-to-face encounter, considering the engagement of the students in learning within a virtual context is still significant. Thus, this action research was conducted to sustain the level of virtual engagement among undergraduate teacher education students specializing in Physical Education when interactive buzz breaks are introduced in their online synchronous sessions. This study utilized a mixed-method collaborative action research approach. The participants included 48 second-year Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd) students enrolled in the course, “Drug Education, Consumer Health, and Nutrition”, from a teacher education institution (TEI) in Central Luzon, Philippines during the second semester of the academic year 2021-2022. Multiple sources of data were collected and analyzed which included teacher’s observation notes, Student Engagement Survey Questionnaire, and reflective journals. Five (5) interactive buzz break activities were implemented using the “Wordwall” as an intervention within twelve synchronous sessions. The survey questionnaire was administered before (pre-assessment) and after (post-assessment) the intervention to describe the students’ level of virtual engagement. Results of the quantitative phase revealed that there is a high level of students’ behavioral, cognitive, and emotional virtual engagement before and after the strategy. The qualitative phase further promoted these results to reveal the remarkable experiences encountered by students during the intervention implementation that contributed to sustaining their virtual engagement. The derived results and findings posit that administering various interactive buzz break activities with the utilization of various educational platforms synchronously and asynchronously may sustain and further improve students’ virtual engagement.

Abstract

One of the broad and intricate subfields of physics is fluid mechanics. Learning techniques for students are an essential component of learning fluid mechanics because they increase their motivation to learn, enhance learning outcomes, and encourage active participation in class. An overview of the prior research was highlighted in this publication, and several fluid mechanics learning methodologies were looked at in this review. The study found that the majority of students performed well in group settings, particularly when fluid mechanics principles are used in practical settings, which is the most successful teaching method. The studies that were reviewed in this literature review demonstrated that offering students team-based experiential learning is the best way to inspire them to learn fluid mechanics and to recognize the value of doing so. Therefore, by developing ideas and putting them into practice through active exploration, students learn more.

Abstract

Teacher preparation is a vital factor in the development of effective future teachers. As such, this study tried to determine the pre-service teachers’ lesson preparation practices in one of the Teacher Education Institutions in the Philippines and provided descriptions of their practice teaching experiences particularly on lesson planning/preparation. Quantitative and qualitative methods of research were used wherein data were gathered through questionnaires, documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews. Results revealed that the pre-service science teachers followed the systematic method of lesson preparation with the use of detailed lesson plans. Their lesson preparation practices are good and they are already prepared to face and hurdle the task of a real classroom teacher. Despite these, there are still aspects in lesson preparation that needs to be further developed like the formulation of affective domain objectives as well as the selection of appropriate motivational and assessment techniques. To further develop the pre-service program for science education, the study recommends that Teacher Education Institutions continue to design programs and activities regarding pre-service teachers’ development not only in science but also in other subject areas to enhance their lesson planning skills.

Abstract

This research highlights the aspects of resiliency among business establishments in the Visayas regions that were directly affected by super typhoon Yolanda in 2013. This study employs a descriptive method to characterize resiliency factors among various businesses. A survey questionnaire was utilized to gather relevant data from the 106 business proprietors and managers. Multivariate analysis via exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was used to determine the underlying factors. In the context of the post-disaster recovery of businesses in the Visayas regions, the exploratory analysis yielded five dimensions. Based on the finding, five causal factors are significant in developing a post-disaster resiliency and recovery framework among various business types. Any business is considered resilient against any form of disaster if it has complete control of its institutional affairs and plans ahead guided by its philosophy. Futuristic planning is also necessary as it imbibes in its operational philosophy the value of foresight. Besides, every business needs to strengthen its linkages outside its operations. Hence, a resilient business considers the value of information exchange and dissemination. Thus, a business is said to be sustainable if it maintains a sound and working framework to improve an adaptive capacity for any calamity or disaster.

Abstract

This research is intended to examine the extent of effectiveness of school climate and level of teachers’ commitment to the teaching profession. To attain this purpose, the researcher utilized descriptive-correlational research design to investigate the relationship between school climate and teachers’ commitment. The researcher composed a survey questionnaire which was subjected to validity and reliability tests and was administered to a convenient sample of a public junior high school teachers in the locale of the study. Findings reveal that the extent of effectiveness of school climate dimensions was highly effective, and teachers’ level of commitment was highly employed. The result served as the bases for the researcher to propose a supplementary support program to improve further the school climate and strengthen the level of teachers’ commitment, hence improving their schoolwork performance.

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the practices of waste disposal among residents of Barangay Upper Sanraymundo, Jolo, Sulu, Philippines. The researchers sought to answer to the following questions: What is the demographic profile of the resident in terms of educational attainment? What are the practices on waste disposal among the residents? What are the effects on environment of waste disposal practices among the residents? And; is there a significant effect of the waste disposal practices on environment? Quantitative type of research was utilized specifically the descriptive-predictive research method. The researchers made used of self-structured survey questionnaire based from related literature, related studies and validation of experts. Convenience sampling was used in determining the selected 99 respondents out of 8,308 populations of Upper Sanraymundo Jolo, Sulu, Philippines. Based on the findings of the gathered data, it was therefore concluded that majority of the respondents are high school graduates. It was also concluded that the majority of the residents always practice waste disposal. The study also found out that the majority of the respondents are aware about the effect of solid waste if not disposed properly. It also concluded that there is a significant effect of solid waste on environment. Among the findings and conclusions, the highest priority recommendation policies in this study are to strengthen the Republic Act 9003 also known as Ecological Solid Waste Management of 2000 to maintain the necessary policy framework and continue implementing the integrated waste management plan based on 3Rs (reduce, reuse, and recycle) of which the Local Government of Jolo, Sulu, Philippines is strictly complying on the said mandates.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the title Analysis of the second semester students' ability of the English Education Study Program in understanding reading texts. The purpose of this research is to examine the students' ability to understand the text. This study uses a qualitative method. The population used is the second semester students of HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar University for the 2020/2021 academic year. The sample taken is 32 people. The research data were collected from the given text. During the test, 30 questions were given. The type of test given is an objective test. After collecting the data, the writer then analyzed the students' scores. From these students, it was found that almost all students could not understand the text. There are 19 students (59.37%) who score below 65 and that makes them still need more attention than to help them improve their ability to understand the text.

Abstract

This study mainly aims to determine the knowledge, attitudes, and practices among Filipino college students on food hygiene and sanitation in the context of flexible blended learning during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Twenty college students major in Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology (BSIT) in Food Technology are purposively selected as the main respondents of the study. This mixed-method study reveals that the students have excellent knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards cleaning and sanitization procedures, the use of appropriate clothing, and the proper storage of foods during their laboratory activities. The very positive findings of the study indicate that the students have a high level of knowledge, attitude, and practices regarding general sanitary measures.
