Abstract

Research to study the effect of a good combination of growing media and application of N fertilizer on the growth and yield of cauliflower (Brassica oleracea, L.). The research time was carried out from June 2022 to October 2022 at Raya Village garden, Berastagi District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province, with an altitude of 1,300 above sea level with latosol soil type and soil pH 6.8. This research was conducted from June 2022 to October 2022. This research was conducted with a factorial experiment of 3x2 = 6 + 1 controls arranged in a factorial randomized block design (RAK). The first factor was the composition of the planting medium (M), which consisted of 3 treatment levels, namely: Mo: Control (without mixture), M1: Soil + husk charcoal with a volume ratio (1:1), M2: Sand + charcoal husk with a volume ratio (1:1) , M3: Soil + sand + husk charcoal by volume ratio (1:1:1) . The second factor was the dose of ZA (N) fertilizer which consisted of 3 treatment levels, namely: N1 : 50 kg/ha, N2 : 100 kg/ha, N3 : 150 kg/ha . The observed variables were plant height, number of leaves, number of roots, fresh weight of plants, fresh weight of flowers/plant, dry weight of plants, initiation of flowering, flower diameter. Mixing plant media and N fertilizer can increase the growth and yield of cauliflower plants. M3N3 treatment ( Soil + sand + husk charcoal with volume ratio (1:1:1) + Nitrogen fertilizer 150 kg/ha, is the best treatment that can increase growth and yield of cauliflower on the number of roots (7.27 fruit), fresh weight of plants (7.95 g), dry weight of plants (2.69 g), initiation of flowering (6.00 hst), fresh weight of flowers/plant (6.98 g), flower diameter (3.09 mm).

Abstract

The existence and effectiveness of imprisonment in changing the behavior of convicts is quite interesting to study, considering the facts that exist show that imprisonment through the correctional system has not been able to change the behavior of convicts significantly. The problems in this study are regarding the existence of imprisonment and prison conditions as a place for implementing coaching for convicts, regarding coaching and its influence on the behavior of convicts while serving their sentences in Correctional Institutions and the effectiveness of imprisonment as the implementation of criminal sanctions and at the same time a means to change the behavior of convicts. This type of research is empirical juridical research, using a statute approach and a conceptual approach. This research uses field studies and literature studies that aim to collect primary and secondary data. The data analysis used is qualitative data analysis. Based on the results of research and discussion, imprisonment is still quite effective in changing the behavior of convicts. This is in accordance with the objectives of the penitentiary system regulated in the penitentiary law and there is also a change in the behavior of some inmates who have undergone the coaching process. The conclusion of this study is that the existence of imprisonment as a means of implementing coaching for convicts is still quite relevant to be applied in the criminal justice system in Indonesia. Considering that the implementation of imprisonment in Indonesia is not only a form of retaliation (punishment) against perpetrators, but also aims to restore the situation, namely to rehabilitate perpetrators and at the same time protect society from the perpetrator's actions to repeat his crime. Coaching carried out by Correctional Institutions has an influence on changes in the behavior of convicts. Although in the implementation of the coaching there are still various weaknesses that indicate the failure of the coaching process. Imprisonment as the implementation of criminal sanctions and at the same time a means to change the behavior of convicts is still quite effective, although it cannot be said that it is a very effective means to change the behavior of convicts.

Abstract

he study aimed to determine the impact of having teaching loads assigned to teachers which are not aligned with their preservice training. The research utilized a descriptive research design and involved 12 senior high school teachers who are teaching in a public national high school in Marikina City, the Philippines for the school year 2019-2020. The study also made use of the qualitative data gathered through focus group discussion to have an in-depth analysis of the perceptions of the teachers regarding their situation on teaching a subject that is not part of their expertise. The study revealed that teachers who are assigned teaching loads which are not part of their preservice training showed some confidence that they can teach their students well. This was shown on the question how confident they were in teaching their students to become critical thinkers and 8 or (66.67 %) of the total number of the teacher participants said that they exerted moderate effort in encouraging students to become critical thinkers. In addition, 5 or (41.67 %) of the teachers shared that they can do so much to help students improve in his failing grade. Surprisingly, 7 or (58.33%) of the total number of the teacher participants said that they can only exert moderate effort to help students who are having difficulty with the subject. Based from the findings of the study, the researchers thought that the perennial problem of teachers being assigned teaching loads that are not in line with their area of expertise should be given enough training and technical assistance coming from the school administration. This will help improve teachers in their pedagogical techniques and the type of assessment they employ in their classes.

Abstract

The Classics remain to be an inspiration for modern works of art. One typical example is the Classic fairy tale Cinderella which has been retold and reimagined in various ways but has maintained its Classic flavor that blends well with its modern recipes. In our highly digitized world, the Classics are depicted in a modern format called the visual novel. This study tackled Victor Shklovsky’s defamiliarization to show the familiar and unfamiliar in a modern recommunicated version of Cinderella known as Cinders, a visual novel digital platform demonstrating how this contemporary work of art is inspired by the Classics. Likewise, this paper is hinged on Stephen Jay Greenblatt’s New Historicism framework to investigate the historical developments of a Classic tale like Cinderella evolving into its eponym Cinders who wears the modern dress of a visual novel in conformity with the Millennial fashion of digitized fairy tale writing’s format, platform, and presentation. The use of Karl Marx’s and Friedrich Engel’s Cultural Materialism in this study proves how perspectives about material wealth are being differently viewed by key characters as they vigorously pursue their personal goals. Melding with these literary frameworks is the researcher’s improvisation of three (3) guiding stars as the compass that helped uncover Cinders’s Classic spark, Classic vestiges, and Millennial or Contemporary Differences from its Classic inspirer Cinderella. Finally, this undertaking discussed the contrasts between book reading of a Classic work including the digital reading and playing of a Classic reincarnated version to cap this researcher’s scholarly journey.

Abstract

Various issues and concerns raised by parents, students, and teachers about the implementation of Modular Distance Learning were addressed during the Online Kamustahan at a public elementary school where the study was conducted. Parents were particularly concerned about how their children would learn the skills required in their subjects without proper instruction from teachers. The development and implementation of an intervention is one method for addressing students' learning gaps and overcoming learning barriers. This study evaluated the effectiveness of home tutoring as an intervention in teaching Mathematics 6 to modular students in a public elementary school in the Philippines. Experimental research design was used in this study. A set of teacher-made tests were given to fifteen (15) Grade 6 modular students enrolled for the Academic Year 2020-2021. The pre-test and post-test scores were interpreted using mean, mean percent score, summation of x, summation of square x, absolute range, standard deviation, and coefficient of relative variation. Results showed that home tutoring focusing on the students' least mastered skills is an effective intervention in teaching Mathematics 6, with a mastery increase of +44.67%. It is recommended that the school allocate funds for promotional materials, marketing expenses, signage, and incentives for program implementation. and that the school will develop another intervention program to address the students' deficiencies, with a committee in charge of developing, implementing, and evaluating the program.

Abstract

The Recruitment, Selection and Placement Core Group of the PRIME-HRM of the Department of Education Division of Butuan City conducted this research mainly to address the issues on the assessment of the Teacher applicants particularly in the scoring system which may eventually be hired in the Department of Education. To identify gaps in assessing teacher competencies, the researchers used the K-means cluster analysis to generate knowledge that could be the basis for policy formulation. An applicant can be in the Registry of Qualified Applicants if he/she passes the criteria in the selection relative to their qualifications and competencies. The researchers found two issues that need to be addressed. First, it is the experience and the English Proficiency Test (EPT) results. Experience is necessary because teaching is a skill which requires expertise, but we do not prioritize it over other criteria. Another gap is the English Proficiency Test result. English is an essential factor in the teaching profession since it is our second medium of speech and teachers are facilitators in the learning process of pupils and students. Thus, there is a need to revisit the EPT tool and propose modification if deemed necessary; English skills enhancement is duly recommended from Senior High School to Higher Education to develop mainly its basic communication proficiency; newly hired teachers will undergo training to enrich English aptitude; enhance the policy on recruitment process.
