Abstract

The COVID-19 crisis brought worldwide changes in education resulting to employment of blended learning in schools. In this context, teachers hold classes in both online and traditional learning mode. This new landscape demands knowledge in terms of effectiveness of the widely advocated learner-centered method. Hence, with the participation of university students, the researchers conducted this quasi-experimental study. In addition, the study used inferential statistical treatments to determine the difference of participants’ performance. Results show that there is significant difference in the performance of the participants before and after exposure to learner-centered method in blended learning modality. Therefore, the researchers recommend the adoption of learner-centered method even in the new landscape of the academe now embracing the blended learning.

Abstract

Quality Management System [QMS] is an emerging management philosophy that takes its course amid today’s competitive and dynamic global markets where quality becomes a critical factor of business excellence. Discovering its value as a success factor, many studies were conducted to determine the level of influence of QMS practices on the business performance. Invested from the non-consensus findings from these studies and the scarcity of published papers about QMS in Philippine government corporations, the researchers conducted quantitative research in a government corporation in Clark Freeport Zone, Philippines, designed with descriptive, cross-sectional, causal-comparative framework to determine the impact of the QMS practices on its business performance. A 40-item close-ended survey instrument, tested for validity and reliability, was developed to measure the QMS practices in the context of the ISO 9001:2015 QMS, and the Business Performance in the perspectives of the Balanced Scorecard. This was accommodated by 125 respondents, representing 88% of its target population. Results revealed that the QMS practices dimensions top management leadership, customer orientation, process control and improvement, and employee engagement each had significant positive impact on each business performance perspectives financial, customer, internal business processes, and innovation and learning of the subject government corporation. Determining the influence of quality practices on business performance is significantly relevant in government corporations since these entities act as both a public sector and a business entity. It creates an opportunity for the Philippine leaders to justify the national thrust of delivering quality-oriented government service to the Filipino people.

Abstract

This exploratory case study seeks to understand the purchase and collection motivations of an international co-branded limited-edition collectible. It also explores consumers’ perceptions of the brand collaboration between Philippine-based Jollibee and United States-based Funko. This study finds that consumers are motivated to purchase and collect products based on their willingness to identify with the brand, which stems from personal values, self-concept, and nostalgia. While most studies on co-branding use simulated alliances, this study provides a real example of an international branding collaboration, thereby providing a nuanced understanding of co-branding spillover effects and how a consumer’s willingness to identify with a brand motivates their purchase and collection decisions.

Effective expression of one's own views, opinions, ideas, and values on a certain subject through writing using one's own language is a skill that should be nurtured in school for every student. This study used a descriptive research design, and the participants were 35 students from a public elementary school. Qualitative data were gathered through the use of questionnaires with pretest and post-test to analyze whether the implementation of structural teaching basic practice of writing a publication to young writers of public elementary school was effective in improving the students' writing skills. The study revealed the skills that most of the grade 4, grade 5 and grade 6 students have not yet mastered are the following: writing an explanation, talks, commenting on an issue and an opinion on an issue (97.14%); writing scripts for radio broadcasting and writing short news, editorials, and other parts of the newspaper (100%); writing a report, sports news, letter to the editor, script for radio broadcasting (100%) respectively. Descriptive statistics were used to interpret data gathered. The students got a pretest mean score of 11.63 with a standard deviation of 0.55 and a post-test mean score of 25.66 with a standard deviation of 0.51. It is evident that there is an increase in mean score of +14.03 between pre and post-tests, from 11.63 to 25.66. The participants' pre-test and post-test differences are very significant based on the computed t-value of 29.08 0.05 level of significance. It is important to note that the use of structural teaching basic practice of writing a publication to young writers has improved their skills in writing.

Abstract

As students’ progress in their studies, they must learn a variety of important skills. Among these is writing, which is undeniably one of the most important skills that every student must develop. However, writing has always been a major challenge for students learning English, particularly in elementary schools and for second language learners. This study determined the effectiveness of the instructional material "How to Write a Sentence" as an intervention to improve the writing skills and academic performance in English of Grade 6 students at a public elementary school in the Philippines. The one-group pretest-posttest design of the quasi-experimental research design was used in this study. A 50-item pretest and posttest were used to assess the participants' academic performance before and after the intervention was implemented. The mean, standard deviation, and paired-samples t-test were used to interpret the data. Results revealed that the use of the instructional material "How to Write a Sentence" was found to be an effective intervention in improving the writing skills and academic performance in English of Grade 6 students at a public elementary school in the Philippines. It is recommended that administrators should encourage teachers to collaborate in order to further enhance or improve the intervention material or to create other contextualized and localized learning materials suited to diverse learner types.

Abstract

The purpose of personnel analysis is to achieve professional civil servants in implementing the principles of good governance. To achieve this goal, one of the policies undertaken by the government is to issue a new regulation in the field of personnel as a substitute for the old regulation, namely Government Regulation No. 94 of 2021. The new policy issued by the government should be firmer, better and more effective. so that it will make Civil Servants who commit disciplinary violations become a deterrent. The new regulations have several changes to disciplinary penalties. One of the changes is severe disciplinary punishment. The old regulations set forth in PP No. 53 of 2010, regulated the existence of a penalty for dishonorable dismissal as civil servants, but in the replacement regulation this was omitted. By eliminating the word disrespect, it has an impact on the staffing sector, so that severe disciplinary punishment becomes lighter. The reduction in disciplinary punishment provides an opportunity for civil servants to commit repeated violations, thereby hampering the principles of good governance. In terms of staffing, these changes have an impact on civil servant pension rights. In this way, all civil servants who have been dismissed, both retired and for committing serious disciplinary violations, will receive pension rights. PP for PNS No. 94 of 2021 should carry out the Law's orders, but the new PP is not in line with Article 84 of the ASN Law.
