Abstract

This study aimed to determine the needs and problems in conducting research among the MAED students of Higher Education Institutions in Cotabato City Graduate Schools. It utilized the descriptive–quantitative type of research, and it was conducted in the selected college and universities-graduate schools in Cotabato City. The study's respondents were the forty-four (44) Master of Arts in Education graduating students for 2015-2016. The study employed total enumeration as a sampling technique. A survey questionnaire was generated upon reviewing the related literature and other secondary sources such as research articles and journals. The study's statistical tools used frequency and percentage counts, mean, and the grand mean. The needs of the MAED students in conducting research were perceived as "needed," while the level of difficulties encountered by the MAED students was perceived as "difficult." Financial aspects were seen as a hindrance to their research work. Likewise, a school offering graduate college in the city has equipped a library to give students access to the research materials they need. Similarly, there is still a need to develop the student's skills in conducting research. Students conducting research were it hard to manage their time while most of them were married and at the same time working. It is recommended that research subjects be emphasized to students taking research courses. There should be an organized schedule for students to consult closely with their adviser. The graduate studies program in the city should strengthen its research program.

Abstract

All SK Officials are mandated by the SK Reform Act and ordered by the Department of Interior and Local Government to undergo the SK Mandatory Training. This study is intended to assess the effectiveness of the SK Mandatory Training as conducted in selected barangays of Cebu City. It aims to check the extent of the variables. The method utilized in this study was the descriptive correlational design. Survey Questions were drawn from the five training modules, viz.: Decentralization and Local Governance, SK History, Meetings and Resolutions, Planning and Budgeting, Code of Conduct, and Ethical Standards. There were 160 respondents; 124 SK Councilors and 36 SK Chairpersons from different barangays of Cebu City. Based on Pearson product-moment correlation, it was revealed that there is a strong, positive correlation between knowledge and demonstration. It was also shown by the results that; SK Officials were very knowledgeable with a grand mean of 3.58 and have highly demonstrated a grand mean of 3.57. Therefore, the researchers concluded that the SK Mandatory Training conducted for the SK Officials of Cebu City was effective.

Abstract

Due to this significant and disruptive change in teaching and learning, teachers, who serve as frontline educators, are faced with several difficulties. This study employed a qualitative phenomenology methodology to investigate faculty members' experiences while lecturing at public universities and colleges in the Philippines during the pandemic and the pedagogical solutions they employed to overcome these difficulties. According to the study, five themes surfaced from instructors' real-life experiences: (1) students’ negative attitudes toward learning; (2) health-related issues; (3) inaccessibility and poor internet connection; (4) limited flexible learning pedagogies; and (5) unavailability and/or insufficiency of ICT resources. Negative student attitudes, health-related problems, poor internet accessibility, a lack of flexible learning pedagogies, and an absence or limited availability of ICT resources are all significant predictors of how well students will engage in and how well teachers will perform when delivering high-quality instruction during a pandemic. It has been determined that the difficulties faced by the faculty play a significant role in predicting how well student engagement and teachers' ability to deliver high-quality instruction during pandemics will fare. Therefore, the government must allot enough money to modernize the facilities and internet connectivity to deliver online instruction, as well as to provide instructors with training and professional growth in online tools and pedagogy. It is possible to implement and sponsor a training program that will provide the faculty with the tools they need to meet the challenges of the new normal.

Abstract

In learning a new language, there are four macro skills that a learner must develop and use: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. In academic environments such as schools, these macro skills are taught and improved every day to suit the needs of learners. Language learners are often trained when or how they should talk; however, learners are seldom taught how they should listen. This descriptive quantitative study revolved around the utility of listening, how it affects upon the acquired macro skill, specifically, active listening to education students specializing in English from a state institution in Panay Island, Western Visayas, Philippines, as well as its impact on their language learning and understanding. Findings revealed that active listening is vital in the language learning and acquisition with its effects found on multiple aspects of the learning process. It had an underlying impact on phonology, morphology, and pragmatics. It is implied that active listening as an underrated skill should be attended to by language teachers who take charge in teaching macro skills in communication.

Abstract

The trend of transitioning back to face-to-face classes from an online, virtual, distance learning and other learning modality during the time of pandemic has started in the Philippines. This study aimed to determine the vaccination status, willingness of the students for the resumption of face-to-face classes as well as parental support or approval of the reopening of in-campus classes. Descriptive design is used in this study with the use of online survey as the primary data gathering method. Using a convenience sampling technique, it garnered 1137 responses at a local college in the Olongapo City, Philippines. Based on the survey result, 84.3% of the students are fully vaccinated with one booster shot while 9.4% are fully vaccinated as of the rollout of this survey. Exactly 50% of the students are willing for the resumption of face-to-face classes, 7.7% are willing with the intention to get vaccinated for the resumption of face-to-face classes. It may seem to have low willingness among the student but among respondents, of about 17.2%, are graduating students, will transfer to another school, and will stop for the next academic year. In terms of parental support and/or approval for the resumption of classes, 64.4% of the parents and guardians showed support to the resumption of in-campus face-to-face classes. Lastly, the result of this survey will serve as an input and basis for the preparation of the academic year 2022-2023 for the blended learning modality with shifting schedule of face-to-face classes.

Abstract

Physics is a core subject in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics strand, and high school students and Physics teachers find the subject challenging because they had to deal with multiple representations at the same time. This study aims to know the experiences of STEM students in the blended learning mode, experiences in instructional support and the difficulties and the coping mechanism implied by the students in the blended learning mode. This study employed descriptive-qualitative research and the 19 participants were chosen using purposive sampling with inclusion criteria. In gathering data, data the researchers used an in-depth interview guide that was validated by three experts. Results show that there were 16 themes that emerged. The themes for the experiences of students in blended learning are Difficult, Browsing the Internet, Asking Help, Extra effort in studying, Material Preparation, and Self-preparation. While the themes on the experiences in the instructional mode by the students are: Guided and assisted, Helpful, and difficult. The themes on Participants’ Difficulties in Learning Physics are Difficulty in Understanding concepts, Lack of Focus and Attention, Difficulty in Assessments, and Difficulty in Problem Solving; while the themes for coping mechanisms are Learning Styles, Regulating Negative Emotions, Seek Support and Assistance. Therefore, this study implies that students must be provided more instructional support in teaching Physics. The researchers recommend this study to the STEM students, teachers, school heads, and future researchers.

Abstract

This study investigated the association between religiosity and teachers’ subjective wellbeing and between their trust in science and subjective wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using a correlational research design, a survey was conducted involving 170 schoolteachers in Southern Bicol, Philippines. Results of the study showed that religiosity and wellbeing had a significant positive linear correlation. Religiosity was found to be a significant predictor of wellbeing. Furthermore, distrust in science and wellbeing had a significant monotonic relationship. Distrust in science was also a significant predictor of subjective wellbeing. This study concludes that when teachers have higher levels of distrust in science, their level of subjective wellbeing deteriorates. On the other hand, when teachers’ level of religiosity becomes high, their subjective wellbeing improves. These two traits of trust may have helped the teachers cope with the emotional stress experienced during the pandemic.

Abstract

This study identified the constructs of problematic gaming behavior that significantly impact the success-economic gain motivation of gamers. Furthermore, this study explored the role of gender, number of games played, and learning styles in problematic gaming behavior and the success-economic gain motivation of gamers using an online survey (N = 136). This study identified escape from adverse moods and preoccupation as the significant determinants of success-economic gain motivation of gamers. Escape from bad moods and preoccupation mediates the relationship between gamers' gender, number of games played, and success-economic gain motivation. Regression analysis reveals that active-reflective and sequential-global learning styles moderate the relationship between escapism, preoccupation, and success-economic gain motivation of gamers. The results suggest that the combination of active-global learning style and reflective-sequential learning style has the highest impact on the success-economic gain motivation of gamers. The results led to two conceptual frameworks that show how gender, learning styles, problematic gaming behavior, and success-economic gain motivation all play a role in game play.

Abstract

Work-life balance is a cycle of one's life experiences which means satisfaction with work, family, and self. The study explored the self-representation of married female teachers with their work-life balance in Philippine public schools during pandemics through qualitative research using metaphorical analysis. The participants' metaphors of their work-life balance were identified in the interview, such as being like a drained cellphone, melting candle, strong and big tree, spider, COVID-19 vaccine, and season. Also, several studies revealed that they juggle multiple roles during pre-pandemic. Hence, their experiences in terms of work-life balance have advantages and disadvantages during the pandemic, which may worsen or lighten the current roles they have. Thus, it is recommended to raise more awareness of women's work-life balance in their organizations or agencies. Also, strengthening Republic Act 9710 in the workplace is highly recommended.

Abstract

Pandemic has a big impact on the whole economy especially on the business industry, most of the businesses are forcibly closed down due to the pandemic, and due to the safety measurements of the government, and businesses such as courier services are playing a vital role in building the gap between the customers and businesses. Hence, the study aimed to determine the customers’ evaluation on service quality of courier services in Tanza, Cavite. The researchers used a descriptive-correlational research design in this study. The result of the study depicted that majority of the courier service customer were female with 78.89% and age ranging from 21 to 30 years old. The majority of the participants were single. Also, College undergraduates obtained the highest percentage with 58.90%, as well as the net monthly income of the participants ranging less than Php 10,957.00. However, in terms of the customers’ level of satisfaction on the five dimensions of service quality, credibility got the highest grand mean which indicates that it is the factor that highly influences customer satisfaction. The overall satisfaction level of the participants showed that they were satisfied with the services of courier service providers. The researchers concluded that majority of courier service customers are female’s ages ranging from 21 to 30 years old. The researchers revealed that most of the courier service customers are college undergraduates and earning less than Php 10,957.00 per month. The researchers recommended strategies to courier services to improve their service quality.
