Abstract

As everyone is conforming to living with the pandemic, all offers and possible means in the education sector must be applied to help every learner manage their assignments. To help educators in assisting learners in doing their home works, DepEd Memo No. 177 s. 2005 -Training Workshop on Strategic Interventions for successful learning was created. This intervention aimed to enhance teachers’ skills in test analysis and interpretation and capacitate them in developing varied intervention materials for remediation and enrichment of knowledge. This training prompted the teachers to develop and use Strategic Intervention Material in teaching their subject areas. This study attempted to determine the effectiveness of electronic strategic intervention material in conducting remedial lessons in Grade 7 Biology in a public national high school, Division of Antipolo City for the school year 2022-2023. This study utilized Quasi-experimental research with Non-print Rating Sheets and pretest and posttest as data gathering instruments. Pretest and posttest were administered to thirty-five (35) Grade 7 students to measure their academic performance before and after the use of the Electronic Strategic Intervention Material. The findings showed that Science experts and teachers evaluated the e-SIM with grand mean ratings of 3.88 and 3.87, respectively, verbally interpreted as Very Satisfactory in terms of content quality, instructional quality, technical quality, and accuracy and up-to-datedness. Results also showed that there is a significant difference between the academic performance of the student respondents on the pretest and posttest after the utilization of e-SIM as revealed by the computed mean scores of 13.37 for the pretest and 34.77 for the posttest.

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the level of knowledge and attitudes towards environmental laws among Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) students. A quantitative research design was utilized, and the primary data-gathering tool was a survey questionnaire. The study discovered that the BEED students had a generally poor level of knowledge, but their attitudes toward environmental laws were positive. The outcomes showed that only a few students were concerned about the environment and supported environmental protection, and a majority of them did not practice positive behavior. Despite knowing the penalties for violating environmental laws in the Philippines and the procedures for reporting environmental violations, many students continued their bad practices. Only a small proportion of them exhibited positive behavior or practices that supported environmental protection. Therefore, the BEED students at DEBESMSCAT, Cawayan, Campus had an insufficient and incomplete understanding of the environmental laws in the Philippines. The findings of the study highlighted the need to enhance the environmental education curriculum in the BEED program to improve the student's knowledge and attitudes toward environmental laws. As the students' knowledge and attitudes towards environmental laws could significantly impact their behavior and practices, it was essential to strengthen their comprehension of environmental laws and their role in environmental protection. The study emphasized the responsibility of academic institutions in promoting environmental education among students to ensure that they became environmentally responsible citizens in the future.

Abstract

The community needs assessment of three adopted barangays of the Asian Institute of Maritime Studies served as a guide for the Center for Outreach Extension Development in enhancing strategic plans and programs, and in preparing necessary resources and funds. In assessing the needs of residents of the three adopted barangays, a descriptive-survey method was applied since it aims to gather the present conditions and situations of the barangays’ residents. The Community Needs Assessment survey instrument involves questions relevant to the subjects of the research and distributed to the respondents. Respondents are representative of each family in the three adopted community beneficiaries. In Barangay 13, there were 21 families; in Barangay Julugan IV, there were 24 families and in Barangay La Isla Bonita, there were 14 families. Convenience sampling was used and families living in the nearby vicinity of the Barangay Hall were the participants. From the result of the survey, most of them were high school graduates and unemployed. Likewise, participants cannot identify their own skills so the majority of the families lack a source of income, and this is a common problem within the three barangays. The suggested trainings that the respondents were willing to attend are training for electronic/ computer/cellphone repair, cooking, dressmaking, and practical electricity. The additional training to the existing program could help families to have a source of income or to be employed. Thus, the members of the adopted community could have a better standard of living through skills trainings.

Abstract

Performance management is a structured approach aimed at enhancing individual and organizational performance to meet desired objectives. This process involves various strategies, tools, and activities to align employee performance with overall organizational goals. The Asian Institute of Maritime Studies (AIMS) also employs its Performance Management System (PMS) to improve employee engagement, productivity, and job satisfaction while driving organizational success. However, manual operation of AIMS' PMS has revealed areas needing enhancement, affecting measurement accuracy and completeness. The process initiates an endless cycle of follow-ups. To address these challenges, the study aims to evaluate AIMS' existing PMS and provide a foundation for its automation and integration within the Human Resource Integrated System (HRIS). By automating the PMS, AIMS aims to decrease manual effort, enhance accuracy and consistency, enable data-driven decisions, and create a user-friendly experience. The study employed a descriptive-survey design, targeting Deans, Directors, Program Chairs, and Department Heads at AIMS. Out of 60 targeted participants, 36 responded. A four-part online survey collected data, assessing respondent profiles, PMS documentation, the actual system, and soliciting improvement suggestions. Weighted mean analysis was used to evaluate scores from each variable. Findings indicate agreement with PMS Documentary Report and System criteria in Parts 2 and 3. However, weighted means are slightly below the average agreement level of 4. Notably, gaps are prominent in Part 4, where respondent suggestions highlight areas for improvement based on user experiences. As a result, it's recommended to proceed with automating the Performance Management System, and integrating it into the HRIS.

Abstract

This research aims to explore farmer knowledge and learning practices with a focus on the role of informal knowledge and learning in strengthening agricultural sustainability and resilience. This research was conducted from May-June 2023 in the village of Waihatu, Kairatu District, West Seram Regency, Maluku Province, which is a center for horticultural crop production. This research uses a qualitative research design using case studies and in-depth interviews, observation, and document research. The results showed that the diversity of knowledge sources and forms of learning used by farmers and the special role of local farmer knowledge. That the knowledge potential of farmers is not utilized optimally and there are several ways in which various types of knowledge can be integrated by individual farmers by synthesizing knowledge from various sources, through farmer networks, both facilitated by formal agriculture and knowledge institutions, through collaboration between farmers and researchers as knowledge generators, and through multi-actor knowledge networks that bring together various fields. That dynamic context, complexity and local specificity of today's challenges facing agriculture and the many roles it is asked to fulfill requires more inclusive, flexible modes of knowledge generation, integration and sharing. All stakeholders and all types of knowledge need to be brought together on the same basis in the innovation process. To this end, policy frameworks and initiatives that promote interactive multi-actor approaches to development agriculture, can play a sizeable role.

Abstract

Marine resources have been essential for human consumption and livelihood activities, particularly for small-scale fishermen in the fishing industry. This study employed a descriptive research design, utilizing interviews and structured survey questionnaires for data collection. The findings revealed the presence of 28 fish species caught by the fishermen in Cawayan, including Asian seabass, bisugo, dolphin fish, giant trevally, gold band goatfish, grouper, lattice monocle bream, mackerel tuna, mullet, needlefish, narrow barred, octopus, oxeye scad, pink shrimp, pin spotted spinefoot, pony fish, sardines, sailfish, shark, short mackerel, slip mouth fish, squid, stingray, threadfin emperor, whiting, and yellow stripe scad. The study also identified five shellfish species, namely baler shell, fierce shell, mother-of-pearl shell, scallop, and ark shell. Seaweed species, including sea moss and sea grapes, as well as the presence of blue crab, contributed to the diverse marine ecosystem. Age emerged as a significant factor in fishing, as older fishermen exhibited extensive knowledge and expertise in identifying the caught fish species. Younger individuals, on the other hand, demonstrated physical strength and minimized the risk of work-related injuries. Notably, a significant portion of fishermen (32%) operated boats they did not own, with motorboats being the preferred choice for the majority (93%). Additionally, 72% of respondents indicated that their fishing income covered only their daily expenses, while 57% lacked alternative sources of income during unfavorable weather conditions. The researchers recommend educating and equipping fishermen with the latest fishing knowledge and skills, facilitated by collaborative efforts among the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), local government units (LGUs), community extensionists, and extension workers. Sharing sustainable and advanced fishing practices will contribute to the well-being and long-term prosperity of fishing communities.

Abstract

This paper examined the various factors proposed in the literature that have potential to impact consumer behaviour within the context of e-commerce platforms. The field of consumer behaviour involves the analysis of the actions and reactions of individual consumers in response to business practises. This is particularly pertinent within the realm of e-commerce and online retail, as they differentiate themselves from traditional commerce by virtue of their unique functionalities and characteristics. It is worth noting that e-commerce has the ability to distinctly impact consumer behaviour. By employing questionnaire surveys to gather data and evidence, followed by conducting various forms of analysis such as descriptive and inferential analysis, we have ascertained that consumer behaviour can be positively influenced by factors such as sales and promotion, a favourable reputation of the e-commerce retailer, and a satisfactory user experience. This study has effectively identified the distinctive factors that empower e-commerce retailers to exert influence over consumer behaviour. It is suggested that these findings possess the potential to contribute significantly to the current body of knowledge on e-commerce retailing.
