Abstract

Several literatures have already pointed to the effects of bullying to the learners’ journey in educational institution. Acts of bullying have even evolved from the actual or physical acts to virtual acts brought by the ever increasing ICT saturation around the world. The study explored the prevalence of bullying in SUCs by looking into the profile, the personal interpretation of bullying, the prevalence of bullying in the classroom, the effects of bullying, and the awareness on policies of bullying among tertiary students. Using cross-sectional survey method with a questionnaire as the main instrument, 95 respondents were tapped. For the findings, majority of the respondents were females aged 18 – 24 years old, Varied definitions of bullying were presented indicating that these acts are done in multiple and in combination of ways by the perpetrators. The most dominant effects of bullying were low self-esteem, depression, shyness, perceived negative school climate and wanting to be left alone. These effects somehow diminished the motivation or desire of the learner to further seeking knowledge in school. Furthermore, learners expressed their frustration and interest in reaching their dreams and aspirations. One of the academic heads of the institution expressed during the interview that while there are existing policies in the institution against bullying, reporting cases of bullying is often problematic. This implies that responsible office could not immediately act on it unless victims come forward. Some said that bullying is part of the growing process and taking it seriously is a sign of immaturity thus it should not be considered as big deal. With respect of the EQ of the victims and non – victims there were significant differences in Self awareness, self motivation and empathy and no significant differences on managing emotions and social skills implying the victims are effective in keeping it among themselves. In conclusion, bullying is prevalent in SUCs and it is the method of reporting of cases that causes a seemingly lack of action on the part of the authorities. It is therefore recommended that inclusion of reporting mechanism and vigorous campaign against bullying must be included in the school academic manual. Furthermore, everyone in the institution should work hand in hand to halt this hidden epidemic.

This article examines the application of Keynesian theory in the field of economic geography, with a specific focus on regional development and the reduction of inequalities. The objective is to emphasize the importance and advantages of applying Keynesian principles to address spatial economic challenges. The novelty lies in examining the intersection of Keynesian economics and geography, which provides insights into regional planning, infrastructure development, and cluster formation. Abstract

Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) play a significant role in the Philippine economy in terms of promoting entrepreneurship and technological innovation, encouraging local development and alleviate poverty levels. However, SMEs are more susceptible to financial constraints and difficulties attributable to limited access to capital and weak financial management practices, among others, which lead to financial distress and insolvency in the long run. Anchored on the Early Bankruptcy Theory, a company’s financial distress can be at-tributed to its inability to meet its obligations which stem from poor management, low profitability, inadequate cash flow, or excessive leverage, among others. Hence, the Study aimed at describing and determining the financial dis-tress risk levels of sample SMEs in order to provide valuable insights into the financial health and stability of these companies. Specifically, the Study ascertained the nature, determinants and levels of financial distress risks using the Altman Z-Score Model (1968). Based on the result, sample companies at SAFE levels were deemed to have strong financial positions with good profitability, liquidity, leverage, and solvency while sample companies at DISTRESS levels could experience financial difficulties with lack of liquidity, declining revenues, and reliance on debt financing from third parties. Future research can (1) expand the determination of financial distress risk levels into non-listed SMEs and other listed companies from key sectors using a longer time frame to assess changes in the financial distress risk levels resulting from changes in economic conditions and (2) investigate the impact of financial ratios on financial distress risk while also considering corporate governance measures affecting it.

Abstract

Overcrowding and long waiting times remain perennial issues in many emergency departments globally, resulting in unsafe and inefficient care. To facilitate the treatment of patients that arrive in the Emergency Department a triage process is often implemented. Triage enables the Emergency Department staff to prioritize patient care so that patients requiring more immediate care are seen first. This study described the competence and critical thinking ability of triage nurses in a selected hospital in Lipa City, Batangas, Philippines. The quantitative descriptive correlational research design was used in this study. Data was gathered through a self-administered questionnaire that adopted Yoon Critical Thinking Disposition and Triage Decision Making Inventory by Cone (2000). Results showed that decision-making competency is significantly different among different age groups (F=40.93, p<0.0001). Respondents’ critical thinking ability based on objectivity, healthy scepticism, systematicity and intellectual fairness, intellectual curiosity, self-confidence and prudence was at moderate level, with composite means of 3.23, 3.43, 3.22, 3.37, 3.33, 3.28, and 3.27, respectively. Based on the results of the study, participants had a moderate level of critical thinking ability while doing triage. Also, over-all decision-making ability significantly increased with age and years of experience. Furthermore, objectivity, self-confidence, prudence and over-all critical thinking ability are significantly associated with age. Moreover, the triage nurses’ decision-making skills can be greatly influenced by their critical thinking ability.

Abstract

The goal of this developmental research was to develop and evaluate an Inquiry-Based Learning Module for General Mathematics for Grade 11 students. It was conducted at two secondary schools with one hundred forty-one Grade 11 students and four mathematics teachers as respondents. The study used the descriptive-evaluative method to describe and evaluate the developed module using the questionnaire-checklist in gathering data. The development of the module utilized the modified model by Borg and Gall, which includes the inspection of the curriculum guide, planning, product development and designing assessment instrument, development of the instructional materials, validation of mathematics teachers and experts, revisions, limited trial to students and the finalization of the instructional material. The respondents were asked to evaluate the worktext on the following aspects: objectives, contents, activities, style and presentation, organization, creativity, and assessment. The result shows that the developed module with respect to objectives, contents, activities, style and presentation, organization, creativity, and assessment was verbally interpreted as "very good". Generally, the respondents evaluated the developed module as "very good". This means that the developed module very satisfactorily meets the standards with very few revisions. Thus, the researcher recommends the use of the developed inquiry-based learning module for General Mathematics for Grade 11 teachers and students to facilitate teaching and learning.

Abstract

The study assessed the effect of the pandemic on the informal eating habits of Filipino diners in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, according to the following dimensions: dining experience, online food orders, takeaway orders, marketing promotion, and brand loyalty. The main instrument used in the study to collect data is an online questionnaire made by the researcher. The researcher created an online survey questionnaire using Google Forms and disseminated it through Facebook, Messenger, and email. A total of 414 surveys were answered. The acquired data were analyzed, synthesized, and statistically treated. The major goal of this study is to design and facilitate a program that will aid Dubai, United Arab Emirates restaurant owners, and leaders who are members of the Philippine Business Council in Dubai and the Northern Emirates in getting Filipino diners back into the dining scene and increasing their profitability. The researcher's recommendation is to host a conference with the theme "Catering to the Filipino Palate: Enhancing the Dining Experience in Dubai" to assist restaurants in customizing their offerings and services to Filipino customers' needs (the dining experience), to enhance restaurants' online ordering systems, and to maximize takeaway orders. (Order Food Online), to provide insights on how restaurants may develop successful marketing strategies and promotions to draw in and keep consumers (Marketing Promotions), and to emphasize the value of upholding one's principles and heritage while serving a wide range of diners.

Abstract

The construction industry in the Philippines plays a vital role in the country's economic growth, infrastructure development, and job creation. The construction industry continues to be one of the predominant drivers of Philippines' economic progress. In 2022, an annual growth rate of 9.2% was obtained by the Philippine construction industry and continues to escalate brought by the flagship project of the former President Rodrigo Duterte, Build! Build! Build! Program (BBB). The current government plans to modernize the country’s infrastructure backbone, increasing construction jobs to maintain rapid growth, captivate investments and expand economic opportunities for all Filipinos. It is globally known that the construction industry regularly consumes more raw materials, resulting in scarcity with our natural resources and produced environmental implications. Therefore, the current engineering and construction industry moves towards green construction and buildings. The Philippine government has been actively promoting infrastructure development as a key driver of economic growth. The country will be the fastest growing construction market with an estimated six percent growth per annum, over the next 15 years. This study provided information on the current trends in the Philippine construction industry, forecasts its trajectory over the next five years, and highlights the necessary business focus for engineering design firms. Information obtained from the literature, project documents, memos, reports, and other data available served as primary inputs for discussion and basis for conclusions and recommendations.

Abstract

The study developed and validated an interactive e-book in Physics in Grade 9 Science to help augment the learning gaps and the least mastered competencies based on the regional diagnostic assessment. The content of the lessons in the interactive e-book was based on the six (6) least learned, most essential learning competencies that were provided by the Department of Education. The material was conceptualized based on objectives, content or parts, and evaluation tools. The developed interactive e-book was validated in terms of content quality, instructional quality, technical quality, and other findings. Based on the results of the validation of the six (6) faculty experts, it revealed that the crafted material was very satisfactory in all the criteria, which means that it was valid and ready for use by the students. The learners evaluated the developed material in terms of content, adequacy of scope, and appropriateness of exercises. It inferred that the interactive e-book was acceptable and reliable for its intended users. The result of this study has a significant implication to teaching Physics to Grade 9 students. It means that the material can serve as supplementary material since the students were engaged in learning and had shown interest when the lesson involved educational technology, and since there are insufficient modern instructional materials in Physics.

Abstract

This study uses a Fairclough Critical Discourse Analysis to analyze advertisements' textual and visual elements and discursive and sociocultural analysis of beauty product advertisements in Japan. Data were taken and studied from several examples of beauty product advertisements and interviews with seven Japanese women as informants about the discourse in beauty product advertisements. In addition, the speakers were also asked to express their opinions regarding the beauty standards in Japanese society today. The results show that advertising has a role in reproducing and maintaining the standard of beauty in Japanese society. The image of women with clean and shining white skin is still the standard for Japanese women. Taglines and beauty products in Japan offer clean white skin as demanded in Japanese society. From this, it is also known that advertising producers use beauty constructions formed in society to make advertisements for beauty products. This causes the discourse on Japanese beauty standards to persist in Japanese society.

Abstract

This study was conducted to produce an herbal shampoo using the extracts of citronella grass, lemongrass, and mixed of both grasses. It was conducted to find out which among the produced herbal shampoos was the effective against red mites of native chicken and their time observed to kill mites. In addition, it was conducted to determine the cost analysis of using the different grasses as a shampoo. Sixty laying native chickens naturally infested with mites were used in the study the chickens were grouped randomly and distributed to five (5) treatments. Herbal shampoos were prepared before bathing the native chickens; the bathing process was begun and lasted for four (4) weeks with seven (7) days interval. Over all the positive control or the commercial shampoo Wash Out Intense® was the most effective among all other treatments with 92.83% efficacy. The notable efficacy of the commercial shampoo was followed by the herbal shampoo produced which was the citronella shampoo then the lemonella shampoo followed by lemongrass shampoo, with 76.14%, 71.14%, and 68.80% efficacy respectively. The treatment that shows the lowest observed time to kill mites was the positive control (Wash Out Intense®) which consist the effective components to kill mites, it was then followed by T3 the citronella shampoo, T5 the lemonella shampoo and lasty T4 the lemongrass shampoo. Lastly the cost analysis of making shampoo using citronella, lemongrass and mixed of both grasses’ extracts revealed that were less economical than the commercial shampoo available.
