Abstract

Students with Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) parents face a wide array of challenges that affect their well-being. The consequences of parent’s absence directly affect their child’s psychological state which can result to poor academic performance. This study aimed to determine the academic challenges and coping mechanisms of the Senior High School students with Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) parents through analysis of their lived experience. This study employed a phenomenological research design. In this study a purposive sampling technique was employed to select the six (6) respondents with OFW parents in Senior High School. These students were selected using the following criteria: (1) a senior high school student at Tairan National High School; (2) whose mother is working abroad; and (3) willingness of the respondents to participate in the study. The data collected from the interview were analyzed using thematic analysis. Three (3) subthemes emerged in the senior high school students’ academic challenges: (1) school-related problem; (2) lack of parent’s attention and guidance; and (3) communication. On the other hand, the coping mechanisms of the students include (1) reciprocating parent’s efforts; (2) understanding the parents’ reasons for working abroad; (3) building a circle of friends and family support system. Results showed that the parents’ absence affects the academic performances of the students. However, the students displayed strong commitment to do well in school to reciprocate parents’ sacrifices. Thus, this phenomenological study establishes the baseline in developing programs and support system to the students with OFW parents.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and validate a sign language-based and contextualized kindergarten module for children with hearing impairment. There is a need to develop and contextualize a module in order to cater the unmet needs of students with hearing impairment. The developed module includes a teaching guide for parents, for them to become more effective co-facilitators of learning. The distinctive feature of this module is that, the sign language interpretations are with pictures and texts. The pictures vividly show the step-by-step procedure on how to sign the specific word. The pictures are supported by the comprehensive explanation on how to sign the words. This study utilized the Research and Development (R & D) research method to systematically design, develop and evaluate the instructional material. The participants of this study are eleven (11) students with hearing impairment and eleven (11) parents of students with hearing impairment. The respondents and served as expert-validators are master teacher, kindergarten teacher, and SPED teacher. It employed a purposive sampling technique; it purposely selected a population related to children with hearing impairment. To analyze the qualitative data, it was imported to MAXQDA software with the use of Horizontalization method by Moustakas. For statistical treatment of the descriptive data, researchers used the PSPP software. The study found that the parents’ ideal module for children with hearing impairment has five emerging themes, such as 1) sign language medium of instruction, 2) disability consideration, 3) media consideration, 4) level of difficulty, and 5) technical design. Expert-validators assessed that the validity of contextualized kindergarten module is highly acceptable among the dimensions of: content, format and language, presentation, and usefulness. Effectiveness of the contextualized module as perceived by the parents yielded a total of 96.36% positive responses.

Abstract

The study investigates gender disparities within the electronics engineering program at a state university in the Philippines from 2020 to 2023. There is a significant gender gap occurring in this area of engineering studies that necessitates further investigation to understand gender-related enrollments. The researchers employed data analysis on enrollment data, which included year, course, and gender. By means of data manipulation and visualization using the Python programming language, it facilitated data analysis with Jupyter Notebook. The findings revealed that despite fluctuations over the specified years, male student enrollees significantly outnumbered female student enrollees in the program. Male enrollees have consistently formed around 70% to 72%, on the one hand, female enrollees covered approximately 28% to 30% over the years. The research outcomes implied that gender differences remain significant, and addressing this issue is necessary. If male dominance continues in this field, significant development will not occur. Diversifying the approach to involve more women in the program is crucial to achieving greatness and fostering advancement and development in this field of study.

Abstract

reen supply chain management (GSCM) practices are essential in ensuring the sustainability of the supply chain while minimizing the negative environmental impact. This paper investigates the implementation of GSCM practices in Uzbekistan. The research objective is to assess the current status of GSCM practices in Uzbekistan and identify the challenges and opportunities for implementing GSCM practices in the country. The research methodology involves a mixed-methods approach, including a survey of supply chain managers in Uzbekistan and a review of academic and industry literature. The results indicate that the implementation of GSCM practices in Uzbekistan is still in its early stages, with several challenges faced by supply chain managers, including a lack of awareness, limited resources, and a lack of regulatory support. However, opportunities for improving GSCM practices in Uzbekistan were identified, including stakeholder engagement, training and education, and government support. Drawing on the rich literature, an attempt is made to present the needs for GSCM practices and organizational environmental sustainability.

Abstract

The adoption of chicken meat as the primary protein source remains limited in Indonesia due to restrictions on its shelf life. Marinating chicken meat with Dayak onion, known for its antibacterial and antioxidant characteristics, can prolong the meat's shelf life. This research evaluates the efficacy of Dayak onion as a natural preservative for animal protein, specifically chicken meat. The study used a qualitative experimental design featuring both control and treatment groups. The experiment involved testing the pH value and cooking loss value of chicken meat that has been marinated with Dayak onion powder (treatment) and chicken meat that had not been marinated (control). The process of data analysis commenced with the application of the Saphiro-Wilk Test to ascertain the nature of the distribution. If the distribution is found to be normal, the subsequent step involves conducting the Independent-T test. Conversely, if the distribution is determined to be non-normal, the Mann-Whitney Test is employed instead. The research findings indicated that Dayak onion has a notable effect on maintaining the pH level of chicken flesh after 9 hours, as opposed to untreated chicken meat (p0.05). The overall findings demonstrate the capacity of Dayak onion as an organic preservative for chicken meat.

Abstract

While innovation is generally accepted as one of the drivers of economic growth, most innovation metrics are qualitative and have a relatively lesser impact on policymaking than their quantitative counterparts. With this challenge, this paper presents another quantitative metric: the Fluidity of Innovation applied in the Philippines from 2001 to 2021. The study analyses data from public government reports and reputable private entities using the contextualized Reynolds Number from fluid mechanics. The findings reveal a significant transformation in the Philippines' innovation, moving from a laminar (smooth and predictable) to a turbulent (rapid and complex) phase; this indicates the country has a growing capacity to cater to rapid development in technology such as Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computers. Since the Philippines is leaning towards a turbulent flow of innovation, some technology will be felt as Radical Innovation instead of Disruptive Innovation across the industries that allow the labor force to experience empowerment rather than a complete layoff. This research contributes to the broader understanding of innovation's role in the Philippine economy and fiscal policies, particularly those for innovation and technology.
