Abstract

Diabetes mellitus and hypertension are chronic diseases that often cause serious complications such as stroke, so they require proper treatment. The Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) aims to improve the quality of life of sufferers through a proactive approach, including providing exercise for prolanis participants. This study aims to analyze the application of prolanis exercise on reducing blood sugar and blood pressure in the elderly at the Gunungpati Health Center in Semarang. The study used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pre-post-test design. A sample of 60 elderly people participated in prolanis activities, 30 elderly people with diabetes mellitus and 30 elderly people with hypertension. The activity was carried out by measuring blood sugar and blood pressure (pre-test), then given prolanis exercise intervention for 10 minutes, after the intervention the participants' blood sugar and blood pressure were measured (post-test). Data analysis for diabetes mellitus used a dependent t-test and hypertension used a Wilcoxon test. The results of the Dependent t-test showed the effect of prolanis exercise on lowering blood sugar with a p value = 0.024. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed the effect of Prolanis gymnastics on lowering blood pressure with a p value = 0.000. This activity shows that Prolanis gymnastics is effective in managing hypertension and diabetes mellitus in the elderly.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a leading risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and is prevalent in various age groups. Effective interventions are needed to manage hypertension, particularly in primary healthcare settings. This study explores the effect of guided imagery relaxation on reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients at Puskesmas Babadan, Indramayu. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of guided imagery relaxation in lowering systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Methods: A pre-experimental design was used involving 30 hypertensive patients from Puskesmas Babadan. Participants underwent a guided imagery relaxation intervention for 15 minutes daily over one week. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests to assess changes in blood pressure. Results: The results showed a significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure after the intervention. The mean systolic blood pressure decreased from 152.3 mmHg to 140.5 mmHg (p = 0.000), while diastolic blood pressure decreased from 94.6 mmHg to 88.1 mmHg (p = 0.001). Conclusions: Guided imagery relaxation was effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients. This non-pharmacological approach may be a valuable complementary therapy in managing hypertension in primary healthcare settings. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term effects and the integration of this technique into routine healthcare practices.

Abstract

Vaccination is an effective way to reduce infant mortality. It can also prevent some infectious diseases and reduce disability rates in infants. Although vaccination has been proven to be a vital public health effort, its coverage has not yet reached the predetermined target of the Ministry of Health's Strategic Plan. Factors influencing mothers’ intention to get their babies vaccinated are education, knowledge, age, support, attitude, and distance. This research aims to analyze factors affecting the completeness of basic vaccination for toddlers. This analytical study used a survey method with a retrospective approach. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires. Data analysis covered univariate and bivariate analyses using the Chi-square. The population in this study was mothers with toddlers aged 12-24 months. The total sampling size was 165 mothers. The results showed that around 160 (97%) mothers completed their toddlers’ basic vaccination, while the other 5 mothers (3%) did not complete their toddlers’ vaccination. Education (p=9.992), occupation (p=9.746), knowledge (p=0.890), support (p=0.764), attitude (p=0.095), and distance (p=2.354) did not influence the completeness of vaccination. However, age (p=0.004) influenced the completeness of basic vaccination for toddlers. It can be concluded that age influences the completeness of basic vaccination for toddlers with a value of (p=0.004).

Abstract

Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is a common menstrual pain complaint among adolescent girls affecting physical, psychological, and social activities. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2021, 90% of women worldwide experience dysmenorrhea, and approximately 10–15% suffer from severe cases. One of the biological indicators related to menstrual pain is Mean Platelet Volume (MPV), the average size of platelets in the blood and reflects platelet activity and inflammation. The normal range of MPV is 150.000–400.000 µL, and elevated values may indicate an inflammatory process or acute pain, such as in dysmenorrhea. Objective: To determine the effect of the combination of Sanyinjiao (SP6) acupressure and cinnamon decoction on Mean Platelet Volume (MPV) levels before and after treatment in adolescent girls with dysmenorrhea. Methods: This study used a Pre-Experimental design with a One Group Pre-test and Post-test approach. The sample consisted of 32 adolescent girls with dysmenorrhea, selected using total sampling. The intervention of Sanyinjiao (SP6) acupressure and cinnamon decoction was administered twice daily for five days during menstruation. Results: The mean value of MPV showed a decrease after the intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect of the combination of Sanyinjiao (SP6) acupressure and cinnamon decoction on reducing MPV levels in adolescents with dysmenorrhea. Conclusions: The combination of SP6 acupressure and cinnamon decoction was proven to be effective in significantly reducing MPV levels in adolescent girls with dysmenorrhea. This therapy may serve as a practical and safe non-pharmacological alternative to alleviate menstrual pain associated with inflammation.

Abstract

Introduction: Dysmenorrhea is a common menstrual pain complaint experienced by adolescent girls. In East Java Province in 2021, around 4,653 adolescents experienced dysmenorrhea, the incidence of primary dysmenorrhea was 4,297 (90.25%). While in Bangkalan around 66.7% experienced dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea can reduce hemoglobin levels due to excessive uterine contractions triggered by prostaglandins. Non-pharmacological therapies such as Sanyinjiao point acupressure (SP6) can stimulate the nervous system and reduce uterine muscle contractions, while cinnamon contains active compounds that are analgesic and anti-inflammatory. Purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the combination of SP6 acupressure and cinnamon decoction on hemoglobin levels in adolescents with dysmenorrhea. Method: uses a one group pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted at the adolescent health post in Karang Asem Village with 32 respondents. The intervention was given twice a day for 5 days of menstruation. Results: showed an increase in hemoglobin levels from an average of 12.20 ± 0.48 gr/dL to 13.75 ± 0.66 gr/dL. The Shapiro-Wilk test showed that the data were normally distributed. The paired t-test produced a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference in hemoglobin levels before and after the intervention. Conclusion: is that the combination of SP6 acupressure therapy and cinnamon decoction is effective in increasing hemoglobin levels in adolescents with dysmenorrhea, and can be a practical and safe alternative non-pharmacological treatment.

Abstract

Introduction : Hypertension is often compared to a silent ticking clock in the body, striking unexpectedly with cardiovascular disease. Among its many triggers, occupational workload during productive years is often overlooked, though it may leave scars that surface as hypertension in later life. Objectives : This study assessed the association between past workload and hypertension among elderly patients at Klinik Lisna YPK PLN Lampung. Methods : A cross-sectional quantitative study was carried out in June 2025. From 215 elderly patients, 140 were purposively selected. Workload history was measured using the NASA-TLX questionnaire, while hypertension status was obtained from medical records and blood pressure checks. The dataset was examined through Mann–Whitney U testing and logistic regression, adopting a significance level of 0.05. Results : Most respondents reported high workload (62.86%), followed by very high (24.29%) and moderately high (12.86%). Hypertension was found in 50% of participants. A significant association was observed (p = 0.000274). Logistic regression showed that high workload increased hypertension risk 4.128 times (p = 0.020), and very high workload 4.118 times (p = 0.031), compared to moderate workload. Conclusion : Workload in productive years is like a shadow that follows into old age, shaping the risk of hypertension. Incorporating occupational history into screening may open the door to earlier detection and better prevention for the elderly.

Abstract

Introduction: Body composition, including fat and lean mass, is recognized as a critical factor influencing physical fitness and cardiovascular health. Traditional measures such as body mass index do not distinguish fat from muscle and may misrepresent cardiometabolic risk. Objectives: This review analyzed recent evidence on the relationship between body composition, physical fitness, and cardiovascular risk to inform more accurate approaches to screening and prevention. Methods: A literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar for studies published between January 2020 and December 2025. Eligible studies included original articles, systematic reviews, or meta-analyses on adults. Titles, abstracts, and full texts were screened with inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data were extracted on study design, population, body composition methods, outcomes, and key findings. Narrative synthesis was performed. Results: Eight studies were included. Large cross-sectional analyses showed strong associations between body composition indicators, visceral fat, fat percentage, and lean mass, with blood pressure, lipid profile, and glucose regulation. Southeast Asian studies highlighted links between higher body fat, reduced physical activity, and increased cardiometabolic risk. Research in Brazil and the United States indicated that inflammatory markers and diet modified the relationship between adiposity and cardiovascular risk. Smaller studies emphasized the protective role of lean mass and physical activity, including technology-based exercise, on fitness and body composition outcomes. Conclusions: Body composition is a more accurate determinant of physical fitness and cardiovascular risk than body mass index. Integrating body composition analysis into clinical and public health practice could improve risk stratification and guide personalized preventive strategies.
