Abstract

All Distortions Are Intentional is an album from Neck Deep, which was released in 2020. The album consists of twelve songs that explore various themes, including the quarterlife crisis phenomenon. The research seeks to analyse the depiction of the quarterlife crisis phenomenon as experienced by the character through the theory of Michael Riffaterre's semiotics theory, emphasising two key approaches: 1) heuristic and hermeneutic reading, and 2) indirect expression. This research employs a qualitative approach, emphasising content analysis. This research employed content analysis to analyse the song lyrics from All Distortions Are Intentional album. This research identifies that the depiction of quarterlife crisis in All Distortions Are Intentional album presents in only three songs: Sonderland, Telling Stories, and Sick Joke. Those songs depict the quarterlife crisis through hermeneutic reading and indirect expression. Displacing of meaning consists of four data, while distorting of meaning and creating of meaning consist of three data that depict the quarterlife crisis phenomenon.

Abstract

Education plays an important role in improving the quality of human resources, including reading skills acquisition. However, preliminary observations indicate that students' reading skills at Sanggar Bimbingan Muhammadiyah Kepong, Malaysia, are still low. This study aims to improve students' reading skills through the use of Flash Card media. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles, where each cycle includes planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data was collected through observations, reading skills tests, and documentation. The results of the study show that the use of Flash Card media significantly improves students' reading skills. In the pre-action stage, the average student score was only 43, with a mastery percentage of 47.37%, categorized as low. After implementing Flash Card media in Cycle I, the average score increased to 57, with a mastery percentage of 57% (categorized as moderate). In Cycle II, there was a significant improvement, with an average score of 91.42 and a mastery percentage of 88.2% (categorized as very good). Additionally, students' confidence in reading improved, as well as their active participation in learning. The conclusion of this study is that Flash Card media is effective in enhancing students' reading skills. The combination of Flash Cards with interactive learning methods has been proven to enhance students' understanding, reading speed, and memory retention of letters and words. Therefore, Flash Card media is recommended as an innovative learning strategy to improve students' reading skills.

Abstract

This study examines the communication strategies employed by Islamic Education teachers in instilling Islamic values in fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Bugi. This research adopts a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The data sources include one class teacher and fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Bugi. Data collection was conducted during the Islamic Education learning process, with interviews carried out after class sessions. The study was conducted from January 24 to March 23, 2025. Data analysis techniques were used to interpret the findings and provide insights into the effectiveness of the teacher’s communication strategies in fostering Islamic values among students.

Abstract

Teacher performance evaluation is essential for improving education quality. This study evaluates teacher performance at SDN Wawopada using the Charlotte Danielson model, which consists of four domains: Planning and Preparation, Classroom Management, Learning Implementation, and Professional Responsibility. The objective is to analyze teacher performance based on these domains and identify areas for improvement. A mixed-method approach combining quantitative and qualitative methods was employed. Data were collected through document studies, observations, questionnaires, and interviews involving 31 respondents, comprising 9 teachers and 22 students. The collected data were analyzed using statistical and descriptive techniques with SPSS version 27 to determine the percentage of scores and categorize teacher performance. The findings indicate that overall teacher performance falls into the "very good" category. Teachers demonstrate strong capabilities in planning, classroom management, instructional delivery, and professional responsibility. However, a key issue identified is the minimal use of teaching media and technology. Despite advancements in digital education tools, many teachers rely on traditional methods, limiting student engagement and learning outcomes. To enhance teacher performance, it is recommended that teachers receive professional development programs focused on technology integration. Increasing access to teaching media, digital platforms, and innovative pedagogical approaches will further improve instructional quality. This study underscores the importance of continuous teacher evaluation to maintain high educational standards and adapt to evolving teaching methodologies.

Abstract

This research examined the types and functions of social deixis in The Godfather movie using Levinson’s (1983) theory, focusing on how language reflects power, hierarchy, and social relationships within the mafia world. This research used a qualitative descriptive method. The result of the research identifies 62 occurrences of relational social deixis, consisting of 21 referent honorifics, 33 addressee honorifics, and 8 bystander honorifics, as well as 21 occurrences of absolute social deixis, including 9 authorized speaker instances and 12 authorized recipient instances. The findings reveal that social deixis in The Godfather serves as a linguistic tool to establish authority, reinforce hierarchical structures, and convey respect and familiarity among characters. Through its use of formal address terms, honorifics, and social markers, the movie effectively illustrates how language shapes interpersonal dynamics and power relations, contributing to a deeper understanding of social deixis in cinematic dialogue and its implications in pragmatics.

Abstract

The role of language in shaping social identity is prominent, especially in the representation of gender in digital narratives. This study investigates language choices in Red Dead Redemption 2 through Deborah Tannen's genderlect theory, which focuses on rapport talk (female language style characterized by relationality and expressivity), and report talk (male language style that emphasizes status, information, and dominance). Using descriptive qualitative methods, this study shows that female characters mostly display rapport talk and report talk is mostly displayed by male characters. However, some characters portray a combination of both, adding to the complexity of gender presentation in digital media. The results show how video games can reinforce or reaffirm linguistic representations of gender stereotypes.
