Abstract

Syntax is crucial for understanding the structure of language, including verb phrases. While research into syntactic structures has been done in several texts, there is limited focus on modern song lyrics, particularly in the context of syntactic tree representation. This research looked into the syntactic patterns of verb phrases found in Olivia Rodrigo's song Traitor using the Chomsky Tree Diagram method. A qualitative descriptive approach classifies the verb phrase into intransitive, mono transitive, ditransitive, complex transitive, and intensive types. This research applies TGG to the data, comprising of the verb phrases extracted from the lyrics, which are illustrated as tree diagrams. The findings of this study have shown different forms of the structure of verb phrases and their hierarchical relationship existing within the lyrics. The given study contributes to the syntactic research by pointing out the importance of verb phrase analysis in modern textual forms.

Abstract

Learning Islamic religious education plays a significant role in shaping students' moral character, particularly in fostering mutual respect for differing opinions. This study aims to analyze the strategic approaches employed in Islamic religious education at Madrasah An-Nikmah Al-Islamiyah in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, within the context of a multicultural student body comprising diverse ethnic backgrounds. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive methodology, the research involved in-depth interviews, data collection from participants, and thorough data analysis and interpretation. The findings reveal four key strategies: the integration of local cultural values into the curriculum, the use of technology-enhanced learning media, the implementation of active learning methodologies, and the cultivation of Islamic character education to deepen students’ understanding of Islamic principles and reinforce moral development. Despite notable progress, challenges such as limited culturally relevant teaching materials and language barriers remain. The study concludes that the adoption of innovative and adaptive teaching strategies is crucial for delivering effective and culturally responsive Islamic education in diverse learning environments.

Abstract

Understanding lexical meaning is essential in analyzing song lyrics, and metaphors often enrich that meaning. Although research such as Suprihatin (2019) has explored lexical and contextual meaning in song lyrics, and Ngailo, Suastini, and Pratiwi (2020) have analyzed figurative language in Billie Eilish’s songs, these studies do not specifically discuss how metaphors influence and expand lexical meaning to create emotional depth. Darmawan, Sanditari, and Fauziyah (2024) also focus on semantic meaning in Olivia Rodrigo’s songs, and Salsabila (2022) examines conceptual and associative meaning in Tulus lyrics, but does not explore the relationship between lexical meaning and metaphor. This research aims to fill this gap by investigating how metaphor influences lexical meaning in Billie Eilish’s “Wildflower”. Using a qualitative descriptive method with a semantic approach, this research analyzes the lexical meaning in song lyrics and identifies how metaphors expand the meaning of words. The findings suggest that Eilish uses metaphors to provide additional layers of meaning to her word choices, enriching themes of fragility, growth, and hidden beauty. In conclusion, the strategic use of metaphor enhances the lexical meaning of “Wildflowers”, which contributes to the emotional and artistic impact of the song.

Abstract

Early childhood education is very important for the physical and mental development of children from birth to the age of six, when they experience rapid growth known as the " golden age ". Independence in numeracy, which includes the ability to name, sequence, add, and subtract numbers, is a crucial skill that needs to be taught. However, many early childhood children in Indonesia still face challenges in numeracy skills. This study aims to determine the effect of using a number block abacus on early numeracy skills in children aged 5-6 years at Az-Zahrah Islamic Kindergarten, Palembang. This study used a quantitative experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 14 children in class B5, obtained through structured test and observation techniques. The results showed that the average pretest score was 15.28, while the average posttest t score increased to 21.21, with a difference of 5.9. The results of the paired sample t-test showed a Sig. value. (2-tailed) of 0.000 0.05, which means there is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest. Thus, the number block abacus has an effect on children's early arithmetic abilities. The implications of this study provide insight for teachers and parents that the number block abacus can be used as a tool for stimulating children's cognitive, language, and fine motor skills.

Abstract

This study explores the transformation of students from silent to confident English speakers, aiming to understand the underlying factors that contribute to this change. Many English learners struggle with speaking due to a combination of psychological, linguistic, and environmental challenges. This research investigates the reasons behind students’ initial shyness in speaking English, the specific difficulties they encounter—such as limited vocabulary, grammatical issues, and stage fright—and how they manage to overcome these barriers. It also examines the tension between maintaining native language proficiency while acquiring English fluency. The study was conducted using qualitative methods, with data collected through online interviews via Google Meet. Findings indicate that students develop confidence and fluency by adopting strategies tailored to their personal interests and social contexts, including listening to music, watching videos, and practicing with peers. These insights contribute to a deeper understanding of learner agency in language development and provide practical implications for English language education.

Abstract

The utilization of 3D animation has emerged as an innovative and promising technology to enhance learning experiences by presenting complex information in an engaging visual format. This study aims to explore the utilization of 3D animation as a learning medium and its impact on students' learning effectiveness. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method and the PRISMA approach, this research reviews literature from 2019 to 2024. The findings indicate that 3D animation can enhance students' motivation, interest, and learning outcomes. It helps students understand abstract concepts through realistic and interactive visualizations, making learning more engaging and effective. Additionally, this animation allows students to actively participate in the learning process. However, challenges such as hardware limitations and lack of teacher training hinder effective implementation. Therefore, collaboration among technology developers, educators, and policymakers is essential to overcome these barriers and maximize the potential of 3D animation in education. By optimizing the potential of 3D animation, this technology can revolutionize traditional teaching methods by creating more interactive, enjoyable, and relevant learning experiences in the digital era.

Abstract

Early age is an important phase for developing independence in children, where they learn to manage daily activities without the help of others, such as eating and dressing. This independence includes physical, emotional, and social aspects, which are greatly influenced by parental parenting patterns. This study aims to determine the effect of parental parenting patterns on the independence of group B children at KB Al Fatih Banyuasin III. The independent variable is parental parenting patterns while the dependent variable is child independence. The type of research uses quantitative with the Ex Post Facto method. The sample consisted of 53 parents of children who attended KB Al Fatih Banyuasin III, with data collection techniques using questionnaires. Data analysis used in the hypothesis test is simple linear regression analysis. The test results show that parental parenting patterns on the independence of Group B children at KB Al Fatih Banyuasin III show that parental parenting patterns have a significant effect on child independence. Judging from the results of the t-test, the calculated t value is 8.199 t table 2.008, so H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted and the results of the determination coefficient explain that the magnitude of the influence of the parenting pattern variable on the child's independence variable is 56.9% while 43.1% comes from other influences.
