This study examines community perceptions of gold mining and its impact on the water quality of the Wariori River in Aurmios Village. The population involved all residents of Aurmios Village with a sample size of 20 (twenty) people. Using a qualitative research approach based on postpositivism and interpretive philosophy, data were collected through triangulation, combining observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The results show significant negative impacts of illegal gold mining on water quality and community life. The majority of respondents (95%) reported an increase in river water turbidity after mining activities, in line with the findings of Yulianti et al. (2016) and Putri Ade Rahma Yulis (2018) on the increase in Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and heavy metal pollution. In addition, 100% of respondents reported reduced clean water sources, leading to economic and health challenges, such as increased healthcare costs and a shift in livelihoods from fisheries and agriculture to gold mining. Environmental impacts include ecosystem degradation and increased flood risk, and 100% of respondents recognized these issues. In order to address these adverse impacts, the study recommends strict government measures to regulate illegal mining, establish safe and legal mining operations, provide clean water infrastructure, as well as educate communities on the dangers of illegal gold mining. These measures are essential to restore the water quality of the Wariori River and ensure the sustainable well-being of Aurmios villagers. Further research is needed to monitor long-term impacts and develop effective mitigation strategies.

Access to justice is the first step towards justice in the current legal system and is recognized as a fundamental human right in both the Constitution of Bangladesh and several international conventions. Despite this recognition, many Bangladeshi citizens, particularly women, face significant barriers to accessing justice due to gender and other factors. Access to justice is an important human right, but women in rural areas often face significant challenges in exercising this right. This study compares women's access to justice in two upazilas of Noakhali district: Subarnachar and Begumganj. By examining the sociocultural, economic and institutional elements that influence women's ability to seek and pursue legal remedies, this study highlights the differences between the two regions. Data obtained through interviews, questionnaires and focus group discussions with women, lawyers and community leaders. The study shows that while both upazilas face challenges such as patriarchal norms, lack of legal awareness and limited access to legal representation, the intensity and nature of these challenges differ significantly between Subarnachar and Begumganj. The findings highlight the need for targeted interventions that address the specific barriers faced by women in each upazila and promote equal access to justice. This study contributes to the broader discourse on gender and justice in Bangladesh and provides insights for policymakers, legal practitioners and civil society organizations working to reinforce the legal empowerment of women in rural areas.

This study aims to investigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on household expenditure, savings, and financial behavior in low- to middle-income households in Indonesia. The research analyzes how the pandemic influenced household financial management, particularly in terms of spending reductions and shifts in saving behaviors. Data were collected from 100 households through structured surveys, and the analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The methodology allowed for both direct and indirect relationships between household expenditure, savings, and the economic shock of COVID-19 to be explored. The results indicate a positive correlation between household expenditure and savings, where higher-income households were able to save more despite greater spending. However, the pandemic negatively impacted both expenditure and savings, with households reducing non-essential spending and relying on their savings due to income uncertainty. Additionally, the pandemic indirectly influenced savings by affecting household expenditure. These findings highlight the financial vulnerability of lower-income households during economic disruptions and underscore the importance of enhancing financial resilience. Policy recommendations include promoting financial literacy, expanding access to financial resources, and providing targeted support to help households navigate future economic crises.
