Abstract

Abstract. The capital structure is an essential element in the firm’s long-term financial strategic decision. Generally, the firm’s management tends to create leverage with the optimal capital structure as the target. The optimal capital structure reflects proportional number of debt and equity to maximize the return on investment and firm’s value alongside minimizes the cost of capital that directly protects the firm from any potential risks such as bankruptcy and financial distress. Many studies have been discovered the contemporary capital structure theory which helps the firms to understand financing behavior with the capital structure determinants. But, these theories also proposed different hypotheses/assumptions regarding the capital structure. The result of those studies does not lead to a concurrence for the specific factors that affect the capital structure so that the theories cannot perfectly explain the ideal financing decisions. Therefore, this research focuses on investigating the capital structure regarding the MoF (Minister of Finance) regulation No. 169/PMK.010/2015, the government limits the Debt to Equity Ratio (“DER”) maximum of 4:1 which effective for Fiscal Year 2016. One of the industries that will be restructured their capital is telecommunication. They had an important role as one of the key industries in Indonesia. This final project reviews the capital structure theories to formulate testable hypotheses regarding the determinants of capital structure. The panel data econometric techniques are used to investigate the most significant factors that affect the capital structure of telecommunication industry in Indonesia which represented by five listed telecom firms with the largest market capitalization in Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during 2008-2015. The final project processes the data from secondary sources to be tested in a statistical software STATA.11. The result shows 68.5% variation of the dependent variables (leverage/TDR) of capital structure as a whole can be explained by the variables in the model such as profitability, size, tangibility, liquidity, risk, the effective tax rate, ownership, interest rate and GDP, while the remaining 31.5% is influenced by other variables outside the system. The final project suggests the most significant factors that affect the capital structure such as size, tangibility, liquidity, risk, interest rate, GDP and ownership which consistent with some capital structure theories. It is suggested for managers in the telecommunication industry in Indonesia to consider those factors when restructuring their capitals or others financial decision. However, the optimal capital structure variable evidently does not affect the firm’s value in industry level. The result indicates that firm value independent of the capital structure due to behavioral factors of the investors in Indonesia who tend to ignore the fundamental factor(s) of the firm. Keywords: Indonesia’s telecommunication industry, capital structure, leverage, value of the firm

Abstract

Recently, coordinating minister of economics Indonesia, Hatta Rajasa found out that middle-up class consumes 70% quota of BBM PSO (public service obligation). According to the data, economist Dradjad Wibowo made a calculation of it. Based on data in 2011, Indonesia subsidized for about 115.6 Trillion from total 165.2 Trillion for middle-up class consumers. Head of BPH Migas Andy Norsaman Someng also mentioned that government already increased the quota of BBM PSO from 44 million KL in 2012 to 46 million KL in 2013. He explained that to reduce scarcity of BBM PSO in several SPBU in Indonesia, increasing quota is the best solution. Based on the facts and background, Pertamina committed to increase consumer’s attention of Pertamax. Promotion can be done in several ways, one of it is advertising. Pertamina already launch their ad before, but almost the theme is same. It can be seen that Pertamina is too selling their product rather than getting awareness through the consumers. Afterwards, Pertamina choose Tukul Arwana as the new brand ambassador of Pertamax. He presents in the new ad that contained new theme, which is to gain more emotional side of consumers. In the same time, this breakthrough ad creates questions of the effectiveness with the original Pertamina’s goals to increase consumer’s attention of Pertamax.  The main objective of the research is to measure the effectiveness of the new Pertamax ad with Tukul Arwana as brand ambassador by using EPIC model, which developed by AC Nielsen. EPIC is consists of empathy, persuasion, impact and communication. Research is conducted with qualitative and quantitative research. For quantitative research, questionnaire is distributed to 278 respondents from Bandung who categorize as Y generation. Y generation is chosen because Gen Y is known as incredibly sophisticated, technology wise, immune to most traditional marketing and sales pitches. All of the analysis is processed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. Microsoft Excel is used to analyze using Descriptive method, while SPSS is used to analyze the pre-test and factor analysis. Pre-test is conducted to the first 30 respondents with all results is valid. It is shown from all items’ Pearson correlation is above 0.3. Descriptive analysis represents score of each dimension. From the result, communication dimension get the highest score with 72.13%, while the lowest is persuasion with 65.15%. This means the most affecting factor from Pertamax ad with Tukul as brand ambassador is Communication. Keywords: Advertising, Effectiveness, Pertamax, Tukul Arwana, EPIC model-------------------------DISCLAMER: This paper is created by undergraduate students of School of Business and Management ITB in partial fulfillment of the requirement of the degree Bachelor of Management. Methods - The graphical elements in this study are color, typography, graphical shapes, and images that become independent variable and purchase intention become dependent variable. 273 respondents who are domiciled in Bandung are obtained as primary data. To know the effect of independent variable   to   dependent   variable,   multiple   linear   regression   is   used.   Result  -   This   study   found   that simultaneously all independent variables are significantly influence dependent variables. Partially, however, the color variables have no significant effect on purchase intention, with the most influential variables are typography, followed by graphical shapes, image, and lasty color. Conclusion – A product information and brand name can be a point for customers to purchase chocolate with an appealing typography, support by a real product picture and a good composition. Abstract

Abstract. As one of the top universities in Indonesia, Intitut Teknologi Bandung is expected to produce graduates who are competent, with qualified skills. As previously mentioned by Satrio Madigondo, a head hunter who had observed the personality trends in ITB graduates for four years, he assumed the ITB graduates he ever met were having a high tendency towards narcissism compared to the other graduates from two other top universities in Indonesia such as Universitas Indonesia and Universitas Gadjah Mada (http://thriea.blogspot.com/2012/01/kata-mereka-tentang-itb.html?m=1). He also added that it is quite striking and disrupting the recruitment process. This research aims to become one of the more explicit studies on narcissism levels among students in Institut Teknologi Bandung and also to analyze whether narcissism reflects their career expectations in the future. There are four aspects of narcisism, Exploitativeness / Entitlement, Leadership / Authority, Superiority / Arrogance, and Self-Absorption / Self-Admiration, as for the indicators of career expectations, they are ease of finding a job, income expectations, and promotion expecations. This research sampled students of business and industrial engineering. Based on the previous research , it is found that narcissistic tendencies such as materialistic values and money importance tend to be enhanced in business students (e.g., Robak et al., 2007; Vansteenskiste, Duriez, Simons, & Soenens, 2006) and the sampling of industrial engineering students seem particularly relevant since business school grew out of the Department of Industrial Engineering. A quantitative approach was applied by spreading online questionnaire to business and industrial engineering students in Institut Teknologi Bandung. Overall, 445 were collected. The datas were assessed using Independent Sample T-Test, One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Two Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and Multivariate Analysis Covariance (MANCOVA). The findings revealed that the business students in Institut Teknologi Bandung have significantly higher levels of narcissism compared to industrial engineering students, even after controlling for gender and place of origin. Further narcissism related to higher expectations toward future career. Keywords : business, career, higher education, industrial engineering, narcissism

Abstract

Abstract - Companies view technology as a way to enhance service exchanges and has posited that the increasing role of technology in such encounters offers benefits to both customers and firms (e.g, Bitner, Brown, and Meuter 2000; Salomann et al. 2007). GS is one of the businesses that using technology in delivering their restaurant service to gain customer satisfaction. In this case, GS infused Self-Service Technology (SST) that largely replaced their personal service interaction with the customer. SST is a technology infusion, where customers deliver service themselves using some form of technological interface. Technology has replaced the human touch in the process of ordering food, delivering the ordered meal, and billing statement, and in the time customer needs waiter assistance they are able to call the waiter by clicking on the self-service technology device, which also replaced the menu book. Even though companies consider the technologies are able to enhance the service exchange, recent research argued that the technology implementation does not always lead to higher customer satisfaction scores. Therefore, it is important to determine the customer satisfaction of GS services, which remain unidentified. This study aims to explore the influence of SST and Personal Service toward Overall Satisfaction in GS. Quantitative research was conducted in this study by distributing online questionnaires to 100 respondents in Jakarta Selatan that at least had been once to GS, which taken place at Plaza Senayan, Jakarta Selatan. Indicators used in the questionnaire had been proven as valid and reliable using the Pearson correlation and Cronbach Alpha value. Descriptive Analysis and Multiple Linear Regressions (MLR) were conducted to analyze data collected. The research provided empirical evidence of relative impact of SST on overall consumer satisfaction. Findings show that SST positively influence overall satisfaction at GS, however personal service does not have significant influence toward the overall satisfaction, therefore SST considered as the only variable contributive to 21% of the overall satisfaction. This study result shows that Self-Service Technology has enhance service convenience and deliver efficient service process to the customer. The absence of personal service interaction has no direct effect to the overall satisfaction.

Abstract

The goal of this thesis is to construct an optimal and efficient portfolio of 5 Indonesia indsutrial sector stocks. The time horizon of this thesis is from February 2011 until November 2012. There are 2 portfolios that have been created. Those 2 are Maximum Return portfolio, and Minimum Standart Deviation portfolio. The creation of those 2 portfolios was helped by the MS Excel Solver add-ins to determine the weights of each stock in a portfolio. Then those 2 portfolios compared to each other and the market with some performance measurements like Sharpe ratio, Treynor measure, and Jensen’s Alpha. The outputs of this research are the portfolio which generates the highest return also turns out to have the best perfomance among other portfolios based on Sharpe Ratio and Jensen Alpha. This portfolio has a Sharpe Ratio of 19,59% with Jensen Aplha of 0,37%. This research has its scope and limited based on stocks that has been chosen by the writer which consistently included in the index from February 2012 until November 2012. All the stocks that the writer chose is based on the fundamental factor of each stock such as Price Earning Ratio (PER), Earning per Share (EPS), Return on Asset (ROA), and Return on Equity (ROE) which is often used by the investors to analize the company’s stocks for long term investment.
