Abstract

Anxiety is a mental health problem that is often experienced by teenagers, including juvenile inmates. Supportive therapy is one intervention that can be used to reduce anxiety in adolescents. This study aims to determine the effect of supportive therapy on reducing anxiety in juvenile inmates at the Class IIb Correctional Institution, Purwakarta Regency, Indonesia. This research uses a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of 30 juvenile inmates who were divided into two groups, namely the intervention group (15 people) and the control group (15 people). The intervention group was given supportive therapy for 4 weeks, while the control group was given no intervention. The results of the study showed that there was a significant reduction in anxiety in the intervention group after being given supportive therapy. The average level of anxiety in the intervention group before the intervention was 2.67 (SD=0.488), while after the intervention, it was 1.53 (SD=0.516). This difference is statistically significant (p<0.001). Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that supportive therapy can reduce anxiety in juvenile inmates. Supportive therapy can help juvenile inmates understand and address the causes of their anxiety, as well as increase their ability to use adaptive coping resources.

Abstract

The palatal wound is challenging to cure due to eating and chewing activities; hence, a medication delivery system is required to expedite the healing process. The leaf of the binahong plant contains saponins, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, and vitamin C. Binahong leaves contain important antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant properties. However, further discussion is necessary regarding the use of nanogels and binahong leaf extract in biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. Analyzing the effectiveness of nanogels binahong leaves in healing palatal mucosa wounds has been examined in previous research. Multiple studies have revealed that using nanogels and binahong leaf extract can accelerate wound healing on the skin and within the oral cavity by boosting fibroblasts, collagen, and other factors. In conclusion, the use of nanogel binahong leaf extracts has the ability to accelerate the healing of palatal mucosa wounds.

Abstract

Untreated empyema has a great morbidity and is potentially lethal. The usual approach for treatment is intravenous antibiotics together with chest tube insertion or thoracoscopic/ surgical interventions. The patient was a 32-year-old man with spinal muscular atrophy and severe intercostal muscular weakness presented with localized pleuritic chest pain and fever. The cause was diagnosed to be parapneumonic empyema. In this case, invasive approaches would potentially exacerbated chest musculature weakness. Other non-invasive managements CT-guided needle drainage and intravenous antibiotic therapy were tried and proved to be ineffective for the patient and the next invasive step would pose considerable risk to the patient. Intra-empyemic antibiotic administration through a small tube catheter was successfully effective without any recurrence. This method was non-invasive with no significant risk to the patient, had a low cost and was accepted by the patient. It was shown to be effective without any complication and saved the patient from performing an invasive procedure. This non-invasive approach may be used in those patients who are of high risk for invasive procedures. Also, potentially it may be used as one of the first line approaches before performing more invasive modalities.

Abstract

Breastfeeding is the best way to feed a baby. However, many postpartum mothers experience difficulty in breastfeeding. Education about correct breastfeeding techniques can help postpartum mothers breastfeed effectively. This study aims to determine the effect of education on breastfeeding techniques on the effectiveness of postpartum mothers in breastfeeding in the working area of the Tanjung Kota Sungai Penuh Health Center, Indonesia. This research used a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test with a control group design. A total of 60 postpartum mothers were randomly divided into two groups, namely the intervention group (n=30), who received education on breastfeeding techniques, and the control group (n=30), who did not receive education. The effectiveness of breastfeeding was measured using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the intervention group and the control group in terms of the effectiveness of breastfeeding after the intervention (p=0.001). Education on breastfeeding techniques has been proven to be effective in increasing the effectiveness of postpartum mothers in breastfeeding.
